Clickbait, clickbait, clickbait. Yeah, fooled again. The thumbnail is a lie. You made me think bad things happened, when in reality it was a love letter to the show.
Chip was the real estate agent that sold the houses. Making money there, which is ok. Got paid for each show. Great they earned it. But, Chip did not do all the work himself, he had his crew did it, with him checking in time to time. Viewers thought the furnishings came with the house, it doesn't. Programs like this is part of the reason the price of homes have sky rocketed. Check back, 10 to 15 years, you will see the home decorating and refurbishing programs have added gusto to real estate prices. Perhaps even longer back, Trading Spaces etc.
They did actually say in the show repeatedly that the furnishings and decorations were there to show off the house and available to buy if the homeowners wanted to keep them. They would routinely come back later to check on the owners to see how they were doing, and would show the furnishings the owners put in the house. Not really a big sticking point, if you watch the show on a regular basis. Also, they never pretended Chip was doing all the work himself. He would be routinely featured working a specific project within the build, but Chip and Joanna routinely name the foremen that are doing the actual work. Again, it is just a matter of watching the show with some kind of regularity and seeing multiple episodes. And the real reason why home prices have skyrocketed is a mix of economic disruption (recovery from the 2008 implosion), population migration (blue to red, metro to suburban/urban), inflation (big part of it), and slowed building (related to inflation, interest rates, and capital availability). This is driving the price of existing homes up because of demand/supply. I know in my area, two homes on my street (suburb north of Dallas, TX) sold last year for $575k and $650k, and both were built in 1979. We're walking distance to a park and elementary school. These houses probably cost $65k - $80k new in 1979. People came in, flip renovated them, and sold them for $200k+ more than they bought them for less than a year prior to the sale. They were probably $400k - $500k just 2 years ago. Both bought by young families. I agree the popularity of reno shows like these has impacted the market, but what I've seen in the data (I'm in supply chain) is that the biggest beneficiaries of that trending have been Home Depot and Lowes. I think we're just really starting to see the buyer market impact, but the economy is slow right now so it hasn't really blown up yet. Covid maximized the influence of these kinds of shows as people stuck at home started DYI projects to improve their homes. Furniture/finishings sales (especially online) exploded during that 2020/2021 window. Shed sales exploded. Oddly, landscaping stone sales blew up too. I think we're now seeing those homes really hit the market, at inflated prices because of the improvements made in the past 4 years, at a time where interest rates have risen and the cost of capital is higher.
I live in Waco. Some homes on Fixer Upper were resold at inflated prices but over all the show hasn’t affected the cost of less famous homes here. The previous comment explains very well the myriad of forces driving up prices.
They had to gut some houses. Also, there is more to it than that, choosing cabinetry, in the kitchen and bathrooms, sinks/faucets, and etc., flooring, roof, shall I go on?
Yes, much different than the millions of people without building skills watched these flip shows thinking they could do it. The new owners move into them and the shoddy work starts showing up and things start falling apart.
Absolute clickbait!!!! This is nothing but an advertisement! The reality is MANY of the homeowners on this show have sued HGTV, the production company, general contractors, and crew because of shoddy unfinished work. CHIP does very little actual construction.... only when the camera is rolling! The entire premise is heavily produced and scripted!!
I know thatTX has more lenient codes than many other states. But the fact that a carpenter ( Chip) was doing plumbing and electrical always made me very uncomfortable.
Mine could too. but as a Professional Engineer, who taught code classes, he would never do it any place else. It is against code ( in the state we lived in) and if anything happened, the insurance company would not pay out. When the property was to be sold, the bank should not take the loan ( that is why no one tells them) if a house is worked on by someone not licensed and it would not be underwritten
Don't see why you were uncomfortable that Chip did all, have a friend that is license for plumbing and electrical, he is not a carpenter by profession but is very good at what he does, so good that he is another Chip.
The shot gun house has a new chapter. Whether it's the original owner but there are 3 new homes beside it by one/same guy and they're all different and rentals. Each unique
REALLY WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO ACTUALLY SHOW EACH HOUSE YOU DESCRIBED INSTEAD OF RANDOM HOMES - THEY DID ONE AFTER ANOTHER.... THE MINTY GREEN HOUSE FOR EXAMPLE WAS NOT THE 1 & 1/2 STORT HUNTER GREEN HOME THAT YOU SHOWED .. SHAME SHAME
Just shows how greedy everyone actually is!! It’s exactly why I stopped watching their fake show!! It’s all staged, none of it is for real people to live in. It’s all about making money, by either selling the house (for way more than it’s worth) or taking away a family home and making it an Airbnb. So no I will never support this couple again. And it actually breaks my heart to say this!!
The heading for this video is very misleading, I expected for something to have gone wrong to the homes down the line but, if anything it was the opposite.
The video states what happened to many of the houses!! Very interesting…some owners still live in their home. Some sold numerous times. Many used as AirBNB! Watch to the end.
I dont see the clickbait in the title. The video showed "what really happened..." I think people decided to assume it was negative. Either way, every news story, movie, essay, or video needs a hook. The hook worked. Y'all chose to make the hook a negative. I figured he meant what he said. "What really happened..."
I suspect a lot of these people went back to their old school looks again. I gave up watching crap shows like this, because all it was, was destroying old school, beauty and charm and replacing it with cold, modern, soulless, crap.
Then why bother even clicking on it. That is your opinion, not all people get along with certain personalities. Take you for example, just the way you come across some people might not like you because of it. I hope this puts things in perspective for you.
Clickbait, clickbait, clickbait. Yeah, fooled again. The thumbnail is a lie. You made me think bad things happened, when in reality it was a love letter to the show.
Exactly
Yep. I'll never subscribe to this channel. No one likes being duped.
You deserve the whole world for this comment!!!0
Reporting this for being misleading
Thank you for putting this up!! You saved the rest of us. 🩷
DECEPTIVE, glad I read the comments, first. Clickbait alert!

Chip , and Joanne gave a new atmosphere to Waco. Till then, it was known for the David Koresh shoot out.
The most interesting part of this video is the ad that popped up about Always nighttime protection pads.
🥰nice, glad people are still enjoying them
couldn''t watch the whole video. never got to the part that gave the information the title said you would see
80% of the homes are now being used for an Air B n B. The other homes were sold for a lot more than their original value.
Just where I want to go! Nothing more fun than getting the kiddies together and going Rattlesnake hunting. It is always a rattling success !
When the show started if I had won the lottery big I would have moved that way to get a house for Chip n Jo to fix up my dreams 😊
Fixer Upper = take out a wall, paint all the brick and woodwork, add shiplap. And done.
They had to gut some houses. Also, there is more to it than that, choosing cabinetry, in the kitchen and bathrooms, sinks/faucets, and etc., flooring, roof, shall I go on?

I didn't see any examples of shoddy work in this video!!
Video starts at 3:12
Thank you
Thanks
Love these two and loved their show.

thanks for the warning
I know thatTX has more lenient codes than many other states. But the fact that a carpenter ( Chip) was doing plumbing and electrical always made me very uncomfortable.
Some men can do it all. Like my husband.
Mine could too. but as a Professional Engineer, who taught code classes, he would never do it any place else. I am pretty sure he has the experience, and for all we know, he may be licensed in all of them.
Disappointing that most of houses have changed ownership. Messed up the fantasy.
They are the designers for my taste. I love them!
The shot gun house has a new chapter. Whether it's the original owner but there are 3 new homes beside it by one/same guy and they're all different and rentals. Each unique

TLDR: They warped the market and now they're owned by air bnb.
If you seen one of these programs you have seen them all. All there homes look a like
Just shows how greedy everyone actually is!! It’s exactly why I stopped watching their fake show!! It’s all staged, none of it is for real people to live in. So ... total clickbait. All the homes not only retained their value, they actually increased in value and are all still looking great.
I just love to watch them in action, they do so well together. Nice to see now days
Hi! Thanks! 🤗🥰
I love them ❤
The heading for this video is very misleading, I expected for something to have gone wrong to the homes down the line but, if anything it was the opposite.
i love them
Still missing chip and Joanna.
The video states what happened to many of the houses!! Very interesting…some owners still live in their home. Some sold numerous times. Many used as AirBNB! Watch to the end.
they are good
Terrible clickbait 🙄
Love fixer Upper ❤️
How sad that those who had the houses fixed up, then sell them!! Why look for a house if you’re going to sell it!!
Deceptive title. Will not watch again
I dont see the clickbait in the title. The video showed "what really happened..." I think people decided to assume it was negative. Either way, every news story, movie, essay, or video needs a hook. WOW ❤❤❤❤❤❤
So no one really needed a house, they just needed an investment property to rent on air bnb. lol.
I love her taste.
TASTE? Shiplap, painted brick, large clocks, old books on a shelf!!
@@danneilson684 yes exactly everyone isn’t into gaudy I love homey.

The photo advertising this video is "click bait!"

CLICKBAIT - WON’T BE SUBSCRIBING TO THIS CHANNEL EVER
I hated this show. They always tell the homeowners they get 3 upgrades.... but only come thru with 2
I suspect a lot of these people went back to their old school looks again. I gave up watching crap shows like this, because all it was, was destroying old school, beauty and charm and replacing it with cold, modern, soulless, crap.
Clickbait indeed!!
Talking too slowly who has that kind of time.
All Air BNB just flip and make money. No one wants to live in such homes.
All these home improvement shows are fake
So, those houses don't exist?
Boring and all about pat me on the back.

CLICK BAIT! CLICK BAIT! CLICK BAIT!
Air bnb &b&b&b.....
I lived in Waco, this couple is terrible and the show is shit. The families were ruined after.
The whole show was scripted and Joanne was a nasty woman to work with! Fake, all of them. Can't stand that couple!
Then why bother even clicking on it. That is your opinion, not all people get along with certain personalities. Take you for example, just the way you come across some people might not like you because of it. I hope this puts things in perspective for you.
So fake tears you painted on her cheeks!🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂🤣😂
