I think Steely Dan is one of those bands that just does it so well. Much respect!

Heroin is also snorted...ready 4 love is 1st heroin experience, chasing the dragon is chasing the 1st high, water changing to cherry wine is pipe fluid changing from clear to red, silver to gold is foil changing colors when heated

Mark Knopfler plays the lead on this track. Becker & Fagan gave him a chart to play off but they didn't know Mark couldn't read. So they gave him a tape of the backing track minus his guitar part and he practiced away from the studio. when he came back, he had his part down and the boys were well-satisfied with his efforts.

    Forever a jam.
As a kid didn’t know what the lyrics meant at all. Got older and got that “OMGOSH moment”. But forever a jam and a gem. 🤗💜💫✨🤌🏾🔥🔥🔥

It's a song about being high. The happiest, most cheerful drug song ever.

You may notice Michael McDonald on backup vocals

He seemed to be doing backup vocals on half the songs in the early 80s.

Such tight arrangements. Strong in studio band, rarely tour.

I'm surprised these guys didn't die young like many other artists in the 70s and 80s.

Bro, relax your mind. there were literal arguments about what they were talking about in this song in my college dorm. I see someone wrote below Heroin experiences. Chasing the dragon was supposed to be about cocaine, and re-doing it the next night, but the next guy would say heroin becasue either Becker or Fagen had just come out of rehab (Fagen i believe). But the roster of musicians was epic, so we moreso jammed and bobbed our heads like you did as we argued about what they were talking about it. ...argued later.

I think they are talking about pure opium. Pre-heroin.
