    This song is about an older guy who has a 19 year old girlfriend. He says that they have nothing in common. She is so young that she never heard of Aretha Franklin.

      Who? 😅

    • @StatisticsJason
      @StatisticsJason 6 дней назад +2

      That would mean there are people today in their early 60s who are too young to know Aretha Franklin. Yes the 19 year old in this song is in her 60s now amazingly enough.

      Right. Which was crazy because Aretha was still making music at the time this song was popular. 🤷🏽‍♀️

    Another example of the diversity and what makes Steely Dan great.

    Steely Dan could do no wrong in the 1970’s 👌

    I think this would qualify as Yacht Rock too.

    I used to manage a stereo store and would use this song to demonstrate bass response of speakers. I sold a ton of speakers to this song, always a favorite!

    Heh, between this song, "Kid Charlemagne" and "Deacon Blues", Steely Dan might have taught me more about drugs back then than any other band and without my even realizing it! Growing up with their music on the radio made it easy to take them for granted. Their music was always there on the radio and when you're a kid you have no idea what is involved in making records and the like or that catchy tunes could someday become rare.

    Another forever jam. I remember this one being in heavy rotation at the skating rink, but also the grown folks used to hand dance tough to this one. They would cut up on this.

    Steely Dan is a legendary one-of a kind music group. They give the word "abstract" a new definition.
    If I were to compare Steely Dan to a candy it would be a 5th Avenue or Whatchamacallit candy bar.
    If I were to compare Steely Dan to a soda pop it would be root beer or Mr. Pibb.

    A couple of things about their lyrics: Most of their songs revolve around "loserdom"(their word--not mine). It usually takes a few listens to understand what the song is about.

    BTW the fine columbian is reference to weed. Like the song says he could party with the younger girl but other than that nothing eles.

  • @ldybozz
    @ldybozz 6 дней назад +5

    He's trying to turn down a 19 y.o. After failing to find anything in common. Might as well turn to the Cuervo Gold & fine Columbian. To let those inhibitions down 😂😂😂
    Black Cow will always be my #1 by them.

    Older guy meets young nineteen year-old lady. Generation gap means they have nothing in common EXCEPT a taste for Cuevo Gold (Tequila) and some fine Columbian (cocaine) so back to his place to "make tonight a wonderful thing". Think we know what he's got in mind! Hope that explains it.

    One of my favorite Steely Dan songs. But I think the real fans think it's a bit bubblegum, you know, hits seldom please the "real" fans. Understandable.

    It's difficult to smash the like button if you watch someone who can't decipher lyrics at all. This isn't intended to be hurtful, but pal have you no clues?? I suppose you enjoyed the groove, but you're missing a lot.
