It would be funny if the whole treasure hunt was a ruse and he just wanted people to go outside
I've thought about that but I think the stakes are too high. Four people have died looking for the treasure and countless others were so seriously injured they had to be rescued. FF house had been burglarized on more than one occasion, by crazed treasure hunters looking for clues or the treasure itself. More than 35k people have reportedly tried to find the treasure, some have searched multiple times spending all of their savings in the process. One guy after failing to find the treasure attempted to sue FF for 1.5 million claiming he has proof that FF never buried a treasure to begin with. He claims Fenn has been leading people on a dangerous Mis-adventure for nothing except to satisfy his own personal sadistic kicks. But, you may be right about it being a ruse, it very well could be. But if that's the case,. this dude went to the extremes just to get people to go outside! :)
Honestly, while I don’t think that’s true, I don’t think I’d mind if it was. One of the things I loved most as a child was finding things, and something my brother used to do all the time, and a game my little sister and I still play with each other even now is hide little treasures around the house and then give the other clues on where it is. I love that, even when the treasure was merely a piece of candy, or a new pen, it’s was so great. The best part of a treasure hunt is definitely the hunt itself.
That's what i was thinking lool
He was sued and was forced to show the chest.
He got the treasure and then put it back

@@el_tio_walala I don't buy it. I mean, come on: somebody finds a treasure that's worth over a million dollars, and they want to remain anonymous? Besides, the items in the photos looked pretty fake. Almost plastic like.
@@Mu91c14n Why wouldn't you remain anonymous? That's what anyone with 1/2 a brain would do. Do you know how many people would come crawling out of the woodwork demanding a share of your treasure?? Shane is all of us.
I’ve come back to this and reading through the comments told me that the treasure had been found, so naturally I did some googling and yes it was confirmed in June of this year (2020) that the treasure had been found, but there’s also been at least 5 deaths, and the article I read detailed the deaths, but reading about how those people died makes me feel so sad, because one of them died in a kayak accident, while another fell down a 500ft mountain, and another was buried under snow in Yellowstone, here’s the thing, while the deaths are undoubtedly tragic, they were also unnecessary. Remember he was 80 years old when he buried that treasure, and he did it in 2 trips (so the article said) so what makes me sad the most is that they didn’t need to go kayaking, or climbing up 500ft mountains or even explore Yellowstone (which had a bunch of legal issues that were explained in this video) because he was 80, there’s no way he was doing those things when burying the chest himself. I hope those families are okay, and coping with the loss of their loved ones, and I’m very saddened that this hunt unnecessarily claimed their lives
plot twist fenn is a mastermind serial killer.
Spoiler Alert:
Somebody Else Found It.

Also, interesting to know that it was found in June 2020 and Fenn died a few months later in September 2020

For anyone wondering Fenn announced in June of 2020 that the treasure was found, he didn’t say exactly where or who found it but he did reveal it was hidden in Wyoming, Fenn died in September of 2020, 3 months later Jack Steuf claimed to have been the one to find it on Twitter, he released his statement and that he had only now released his identity due to a women he does not know claiming she was the one to find the treasure, this would have disclosed the identity of him in court cases, so he decided to admit it. The treasure chest was hidden for 10 years, and it now resides in a vault.

btw, fenn might have been reffering to the plant "blaze". Its a type of flower that can be found in the rocky mountains
See, I knew I couldn't be the only one who thought of that ☺️
I definitely think it's a plant, but judging by the "white" clue and the fact that you have to look down from it, I wonder if it refers to birch or aspen trees, both of which often grow at that elevation.
But would it of been there 7 years later?
Germ 1 you might think not, but the blaze flower is the type to be found in mass gatherings. Finn is a nature guy so I’m sure he would only chose a clue (one like this one) if only there was a substantial gathering.

Remember, this man did these kind of things for a living, so he’s probably somewhat fit and wouldn’t have let his age stop him. An 80 year old man who’s used to these kinds of terrains could totally have done all that.
Forrest has asked this question himself. He says to simplify it. It's not dangerous and it's not far.
Exactly! Their assumption seems quite wrong.
Forrest Fenn= Athelete
Yes but remember, he would have been carrying a heavy box with him
He did have cancer, and was carrying a heavy box. He probably wasn’t super healthy
the way shane looked at ryan when he came out in the indiana jones costume sksksk
Ryan's treasure hunting outfit is AMAZING!
maybe the real treasure was the friends they made along the way
Kate Bond-Elkin the true meaning😂😂
You must work for Bungie
The most wholesome comment here
HAHA this is great
only a pathetic loser would think that.
Imagine being a serial killer trying to bury a body and then just found the treasure...
That would be a great netflix series
Got away with murder and got rich. I like it
Some writer out there, write a script already...
rianne banzuela on it
I mean they would then have a pretty good hiding place
This may be macabre but when they said they left the car on the street and went into the woods... my mind immediately went to the Jamison family mystery
YES
One thing has bugged me for a while about Forrest Fenn: This man was a thief!
As a student of archaeology, I can say that taking objects out of their context in the ground (or in a tomb) without proper recording and reporting of it removes any historical context from them, making it REALLY bad to do. Fenn was, in a way, a sort of Indiana Jones character, in the aspect that he STOLE artifacts, specifically cultural artifacts that should have remained where they were, especially when that place was a tomb.
Unfortunately, this is still common, especially where someone sees a quick buck, but it is often (and historically was) used to perpetuate white supremacy by stripping non-white cultures of pieces of their cultural patrimony and making them into exhibits to show off their 'exotic' nature.
Tbh, this episode made me a bit angry.
All due respect to the Ghoul Boys though, this is not meant as a character assassination of them, it's just a rant about Forrest Fenn's tomb robbing.
And most of the items displayed in museums of developed countries came from colonized countries. Some though were returning the artifacts to the place of origin. But i bet most are still sitting in mansions of filthy rich elites.
Very glad someone else was furious with this guy, hearing what he did. Is it that hard to just... not take things? I hope all the stolen items will be returned ASAP.
Exactly! This man is no "treasure hunter", he's a thief. It's really unfortunate how many people still see no issue with the way he handled these artifacts and still view him in a positive light. Stealing and/or selling ancient artifacts, especially from gravesites, isn't archeology or "treasure hunting", it's a crime.
That's what i was thinking as well! They really took those foreign artifacts and made money from it
@@amp-le4699 I mean if he was able to get his hands on those artifacts while just exploring in his spare time off base , the “proper” owners weren’t doing much with it anyway
Or perhaps there was no treasure. It was just a rouse to get people outside in the land he loved.
EDIT: Oh wow, I did not expect that many people to agree. Thanks y'all.
Im thinking that too
Was also thinking that 😂
Or perhaps it’s just hidden really well 🤷🏼♀️
The real treasure was the friendship with nature we made along the way.
amsayyy that's adorable but I love gold more ;)
I didn’t have much faith in the boys but they almost had me with that square rock
same I was like lol naw until the music swelled up and they zoomed in on that square rock lol they got me
DUDE i was literally shouting “ohmygod are you shitting me did they actually holy crap” with that square rock
Now that they have separated from Buzzfeed, I would love to see them do a series where they hunt down different lost treasures. Cuz this is my favorite episode.
isn't it crazy how they uploaded this video 2 years before Fenn died. Fenn died on September 7 2020, this was uploaded on September 7 2018!
If anyone did really find it, the poem literally says to take it and go in peace. Someone probably found it and didn’t say anything so this Fenn legend could keep pushing people to explore, like he wanted
Jack Johnson yeah, but Fenn didn’t ask them to “speak of the treasure you found” he just asked them to bring him the necklace and leave in peace, which could easily mean that someone could’ve found the treasure and followed Fenn’s words
That's exactly what he's saying. He got his necklace back so he knew it was found and they went in peace bc the end of the treasure means less people exploring
Peardabear Films trust me I’m sure most people would celebrate and let media know it would save more people from dying out there
Piper there could be some type of clause written out by Finn that says do not publicize it any further once you give him the necklace back?
As of May 2017, Fenn has said he checked on it and it is still in the same spot where we put it.
Maybe the real treasure was the friendship they found along the way....
Boo!
Lol like the book The Alchemist? The ending made me so mad.
yes the friendship of sharing the million dollar box
Trill Gutterbug no, I want my f*cking gold
It’s crazy that this was eventually found by an ex buzzfeed employee
my favorite thing about this is how confident ryan is with this
After this episode I have concluded that Ryan must have gotten all A's in school on his re search papers
i'd be disappointed if he didn't
I am in love with Ryan's nerd brain.
i can imagine shane and the lawyer getting into a fist fight in the parking lot of an abandoned K-mart
UNDERATED
I have one in mind.
An ex-BuzzFeed employee actually found it
