- AviationExplore... - The stealth fighter jet that is meant to become the backbone of America's air power is going to cost the U.S. government billions more than expected and has already suffered significant delays in its troubled development, according to a new report by the Government Accountability Office.
When the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program went into development in 2001, it was already one of the most expensive defense acquisition projects in history at $223 billion. But in just over a decade, the price has ballooned to just under $400 billion -- and jumped nearly $15 billion just between 2010 and 2011, according to the GAO report published. Also, the jets won't be in full production mode until 2018, rather than 2012 as originally planned, the report says.
The report notes the planes' mixed record on meeting its testing goals last year and cites a few specific problems, including difficulties managing the electronic system's unprecedented 24 million lines of computer code and delays in the development of critical mission systems that are so behind schedule as to be "risky."
IT'S THE BEST JET IN THE WORLD WITH THE MOST TECHNOLOGY!!!!!!
Jack of all trades master of none!
This is my second favorite plane made by my favorite plane company. It pains me to see what had happened to it lately. Based on the awesome track record of Lockheed, I feel like someone at the right place at the right time isn't doing their job.
They need Rockwell and General Dynamic to design cheap and effective fighter planes.
when has a military program not ran over budget or behind schedule?
Ok so at what part does the F-35 have the best tech?
I hate control theory. Engineering school's favorite tool to torture students like me... I respect those who master it.
you aint right men. the f35 has the best technology in the world.if what you say is true, why the project is ongoing???
i say again you ain't right.
This has got to be the most dysfunctional aircraft in the last 50 years of U.S. military aviation! The Pentagon should re-initiate a full life cycle development process immediately.
I hearn 800 mil. Where did you get 200? I actually found this vid trying to verify that figure.
You are misinformed. Its too heavy, too slow, too expensive and its tech can't compete with the F-22. Which is logical because why would the US export a joint project with a fighter that is more capable of its own fighters.
I'm glad the Dutch government finaly decided to pull the plug.. only after investing 800 million in it.
Amazing Jet'' But at 200 mill... for each F-35'' Really!!
by the way,you fly a plane not drive it.
Well the numbers so far tell us the F-35 is too heavy, too slow and has a too small action radius. Its not realy looking all that well for the plane while it had a lot of potential.
At this point I hate my previous government for going for the F-35, even though they already had the information that would make wise men decide otherwise.
no the f-22 has the best technology in the world as far as I know? Must say it rally is a shame that they ain't making it any more!!! ):
OH my gosh! An advanced jet fighter which wasn't ready for production at it's designed "ready" date! Well, let's just include the F-35 on the landfill of the other thousands of jets around the world who didn't meet their "ready" dates! I for one, am happy that I live in the USA which has the F-22 and F-35, along with the rest of our SECOND TO NONE military, while the rest of you sit back and envy us. (So this video is all you have to make yourself feel better?) LMAO
The F-22 have more stealthy that F-35, the F-22 has: vectored yet exaust thrusters, more weapons bay load and can do hight alpha until post stall manouver ad Cobra famous Su-27/30
I'll take two please
