      Or when ur driving and a cops behind u and u get nervous even though they are just minding their business. And this is coming from a white person who didn’t have trouble with police in my life. I just realized writing this that it might be a very orivledged thing that not everyone can relate to

      Me! My local grocery store is super expensive but they have the best chicken salad, so I do all my shopping at target but stop by the store multiple times a week just to look for the chicken salad and walk out empty handed when they don’t have it. I aaaalways assume they’ll stop and ask what I’m stealing.

    I read somewhere once The cap removal is to prevent people from having an extra projectile to be able to throw at the stage

      @creatingwithshanna8454 16 дней назад +1

      Yep I was told that at the last event I went to in Portland Oregon. Plus if you throw an open bottle it’ll be mostly empty by the time it lands vs a heavy full bottle with a cap.

    In the netherlands we are not allowed to have caps on bottles at festivals. Its apparently because they are less easy to throw??? And the caps are attached to the bottle because of a law in the EU. This way you dont lose the cap and you can recycle the complete bottle.
    Personally I like that the cap can't fall and disappear into the abyss.

    • @emmaakamemma
      @emmaakamemma 15 дней назад

      About the cap being removed at concerts: a friend of mine told me that it's so that if you throw the bottle some water pours out while it gets to the stage so it's less heavy if it were to hit the singer and it would hurt less

    • @klaraz.9861
      @klaraz.9861 15 дней назад

      Yup, having a cap on the bottle means you can fill it up, close and throw it. Without one it can‘t be as heavy and dangerous.

    • @Geeeee217
      @Geeeee217 15 дней назад

      In the UK festivals have the same rule also. When you fill the water bottle up and throw it in the air it can really hurt someone if it lands on them. So I think that's the reason. But yeah, weird to have that combined with now attaching the lids and as colleen mentioned about spiking drinks.

    • @carolinelindgren5296
      @carolinelindgren5296 15 дней назад

    The weapon thing for the water bottle actually makes sense…cause if you throw a capless water bottle, water will inevitably spill out and have less chance to harm someone. Maybe because people throw water bottles on stage?

    To my understanding the question about bottles and bottle caps are in fact two completely different topics.
    1. only open bottles allowed in stadiums, big concerts - for security, as a closed bottle, if thrown, can become almost a weapon. I imagine that when there are riots during sporting events, it could happen. It seems that now it has become a standard security policy for any event (even for a big meditative prayer that happened in a hall)
    2. The attached bottle caps in Europe - new law to make sure that the caps get recycled as much as the bottles do.
    It’s clear that the 1st and 2nd rules don’t really work well together and are almost contradictory. But the attached bottle caps are still relatively new; maybe later on concert venues will at least find a way to help people easily cut off the bottle caps without hurting their hands.

    Caps removed so less impact/liquid if water bottles are thrown. I was on the floor for Taylor in the US and they actually had everyone with floor seats convert their cap-less bottles & opened cans (they popped open for you when purchased 😩) into plastic cups so they would be even less lethal if thrown at Taylor or the performers. Just spilled my drink stash all over myself instead 🥲

    Colleen, i totally understand your relax with the bottle things! This existed even before the caps were glued to the bottles and I was always told it is because it was an easy projectile. I know some people that were hiding the caps in their socks to get them through security when I was younger. Love in general this podcast! So great to finally hear Tini speak so much ❤.
    The part on the plane is really funny and had me laughing. There is no ice in europe, i guess the climate does not encourage people to have much of ice and not many people have fridges with integrated water /ice dispenser (which we call american fridges) but usually we have a freezer (if we have one at all) with a very little tray of ice cubes and it would be annoying having to have it always full to put in drinks 😅.

With the bottle cap thing in UK they recently changed them to they are attached and the Fanta bottles say “I am attached because you recycle me together” so it encourages people to recycle the cap to. Colleen, I am so proud that you and your bestie took this mummy adventure together; you’ve made amazing memories and you work so hard, you deserve it! It was probably better that it was planned at such short notice so you didn’t have time to talk yourself out of it. If my daughter goes to watch a concert or rugby match (in UK) she takes a spare cap with her; whilst she is absolutely not the ‘bottle throwing type’, she is conscious of the possibility of someone else putting something in her open water bottle, she needs to protect herself. I’m like you in that I love ice (any time of the year) but it’s not really given much in the UK, possibly because it’s rarely considered to be hot enough weather here.Xx

    Super fun episode! Ice in Europe - we are thought from young it is not good for human body to drink ice cold drinks especially with food. It hinders digestion, solidifies fats, drinking ice cold water typically means consuming less of it because liquids at that temp are shock to the body. Drinking 1/2 liter of ice cold water takes longer and is more of an effort than when it is less cold. And genneraly, closer to the body temp the better. I am sure I got you gagging by now, sorry 😊❤

  • @angiematthew710
    @angiematthew710 12 дней назад

    Colleen! I think the reason for the venue taking the caps off the water bottles is because you can twist a water bottle with a vapor partially on and the pressure from the air in the closed bottle will project the bottle faster and harder than just tossing it with your hand!

    @brandeerodriguez8536 16 дней назад +2

    I read that the following about Paris water bottles. As far as why in concerts. I’m not sure lol
    Some beverage containers have caps that stay attached after opening to help reduce plastic litter. This is called a tethered cap, and the goal is to have fewer caps discarded by accident or intentionally littering, and more that make their way to recycling plants.

  • @KaylaP-16
    @KaylaP-16 15 дней назад +1

    Some artists request not to have lids or caps because there have been incidents where people throw them on the stage. Unfortunate, but it’s for the safety of the performer etc! Kinda like one person does it and it ruins it for everyone else…

    hi Colleen, i watch your videos and podcasts, which have been a huge comfort during difficult times recently, but never comment. Today is the day, bringing you some European perspective on important water bottle questions :D there are two separate issues at hand: the 'chained' caps (which i think are terribly inconvenient) are indeed the result of a recent environment-related legislation. the idea is that through attaching bottle caps to plastic bottles, this will ensure they are recycled together instead of being discarded in nature. this is unrelated to the 'no caps' rules which, as you read on one of the websites, make it harder to hurt someone in comparison to throwing a full closed bottle at someone. this has been happening a lot all over the world, unfortunately, particualrly with people throwing things at the performers :(

    Ok but also in Europe when you just order a drink at the table they usually take the cap too! They’ll bring you a soda for example and a cup for you to pour the soda into to drink out of and sometimes they even take your cap

    I loved this episode! I too am always paranoid that I will have forgotten to scan an item at the self check out & they’re gonna call the cops to run me down. Then I’m gonna end up on RUclips via a police body cam channel 😩 To date I’ve never stolen a single thing so I don’t feel like I should stress about it, but I can’t help it!

    Attached caps suck and everyone I know hates this new thing lol. I thought everyone knew to remove the cap before entering and hiding it (pockets/bra are good places to sneak it in) so you can have a normal water bottle inside -assuming you’re a normal human being that’s not going to use the bottle as a projectile. I haven’t been to a concert yet since caps are attached though so that will be fun now I guess.
