I always thought that was because Andre got some actual depth. Beck always felt like the writers went "well hes hot..... and a nice guy...... that should be enough, right?" and then patted themselfs on the back and continued to backtrack every development he made.
I see the appeal and I am a friends to lovers gal, but I do like them better as friends. They have good chemistry, but I never saw any hidden feelings for each other.

Exactly! Beck never actively told these girls who flirt with him, to stop or that he's already taken. Which would be his responsibility being in a committed monogamous relationship. Jade was extremely jealous, but Beck never really behaved in a way that would show her that she actually can trust him on being loyal. The show only portrayed Jade as the only toxic part oft their relationship, without acknowledging Becks toxic behavior as well.

Agreed, Tori and Jade’s friendship had more depth and nuance than any of those ships ever did. I would’ve loved to see them together or at least become closer friends. That pretend date episode was one of my favorites of all time because it’s some of the closest we ever got to see them getting along it was so cute

Also, in the Robarazzi episode: there was a running gag where Robbie lied about Beck and Jade breaking up. Beck played alongside the joke by saying ... "well" and Jade responded with "Do you want to break up?" Beck then said "Just kidding". But it is sad that Beck joked about breaking up with Jade a few times in that episode.
That was a sexual innuendo, or a childish/immature poke at a horror film series presumably about demons or monsters using scissors to attack its victims.
It’s hard not to say that we didn’t get Tori and Andre because he was Black. Nick shows during that era never gave Black characters any real substance so they definitely would never sign off on a Black character being the love interest of a show’s lead

I do see what you’re saying but I don’t think him being black was the main reason. Nick pretty much NEVER gave their lead characters lasting relationships, and when they did those characters barely made appearances. For example even tho Mindy became Josh’s girlfriend, she only appeared in 6 episodes after that

@@awsomedude23456 i see your point but in the case of victorious, almost every character had a romantic subplot/ romantic moments with someone on the cast: tori and beck, cat and robbie, jade and beck. in the 2 latter examples, these moments were quite prominent in multiple episodes. yes maybe only beck and jade remained endgame, but it was distracting that andre was never really given moments like this
I thought they made Jade way too unlikable, for the sake of always making Tori an option for Beck. Like throughout the show, it proves why Jade had every right to be insecure.
This show had such interesting characters, I wish it was more of a drama than a Nickelodeon comedy. It wouldve thrived so much more. Like a Glee meets Degrassi, meets Gossip Girl. We never got backstory on so many of them. They're all going for different arts, and we primarily just get to see Tori. I understand her name is quite literally the show and she's the main character, but usually with kid shows, the side characters are less interesting. The parents who offer comedic relief, the best friend who always needs help, the sibling with witty remarks, the beige love interest. With this show, it was just the high school group, and they're all theater kids, basically. They all had some chemistry together. Not giving those characters more depth felt so wasteful.
To answer your question about Trina, she got back into Hollywood Arts because Tori's friends staged a mugging so that Trina, who has martial arts training, could save Helen from the mugging and Helen would be so grateful, she'd let Trina back in. Which shouldn't work but it's nickelodeon so of course it did.
From the pilot episode, when Tori kissed Beck to get back at Jade, I could understand why Jade would be so hostile towards Tori. Also, Beck seemed to enjoy getting Jade riled up, and they even got back together because he missed fighting with her.
But are we forgetting that Jade was hostile towards her even before she kissed beck. Like when Tori accidentally spilled the coffee on beck, and wiped it off not knowing he had a girlfriend but immediately backed off when she found out he did. Then Jade deciding to make her act like a dog and spill coffee on her head. Jade may have a small reason to be hostile towards her after the kiss but it doesn’t excuse the hostility before it, Jade just was being plan mean for no reason.
Beck made me feel he likes being in a toxic relationship in a strange way (purely personal interpretation) : he doesn’t want or know to be a good boyfriend therefore he gets with a toxic girl so people would say that he is way too good for her,that she doesn’t deserve him ,etc. which is why i think he decided to end the relationship when their friends told d them they are tired of both of them instead of just Jade, he went back after being rejected by Tori because he realized that with a healthy girl he’d actually have to put effort and he didn’t want it
I still don’t understand why they didn’t even give us a hint of Tori and Andre. That could’ve been a good episode since they have so much chemistry staying up late and writing and working on songs!! Even if it was cliche I still wish they would tease it
The problem i had with Beck's characterization is that he never treated Jade the way he treated Tori. He always extended empathy and understanding to Tori even when she was flipping out but as soon as Jade had any kind of anger/anxiety it felt like he was tired of it or didnt care. They never showed him trying to be a considerate bf, he never denied advances from girls, and then always made Jade seem like she was crazy. Then the creator, himself, having writing credits and increasing Jade's toxicity explains a lot.
I shipped Jade and Tori much like I shipped Sam and Freddie. They have their similarities but bounce off each other in a different way. I know Seddie didn't work in the end which is fine by me but in my head, Jade and Tori went to college and ended up together.
To be honest I was a Creddie shipper which made even more sense due to Sam & Cat existing. Sam and Cat had more chemistry than Seddie or Robbie x Cat ever did.

growing up is realizing Beck is more of a problem than the show pretends, because he absolutely welcomes and enables attention and flirtation his way, and while Jade is of course written as an over the topic toxic gf, it IS always left to her to establish that he has a girlfriend. The problem is, it's always depicted as Jade being unnecessarily territorial, with no focus being on Beck for passively welcoming the attention. Not saying Jade isn't behaving poorly often, but Beck absolutely knows about her insecurities and her bad buttons, and he either pushes on those, or lets others push on those.
Jade and Beck's relationship is toxic as Jade lets her insecurities, jealousy, and bad attitude affect her relationship with Beck. Jade gets jealous whenever another girl talks to Beck or interacts with him. Then there's the comment Jade makes that Beck can only be friends with "ugly" girls and gets violent towards him and can't trust him (which makes sense as Back doesn't set boundaries for himself when he interacts with other girls, as we see in the show). When they do break up, Jade still doesn't like Beck hanging out or dating other girls, and the first time they break up, she wants him back to the point she's desperate and does whatever she can to get Beck back, hell, Beck admitted that he's happy that they broke up as Jade isn't a good girlfriend or done anything nice for him. Then Jade's nasty attitude in general always ruins their moments when they are together as she makes snide comments, lets her anger get the best of her, and at times, they can't have a normal conversation without them getting into a fight or Jade just letting her attitude get the best of her. Beck isn't innocent either as he is too relaxed when other girls flirt with him, doesn't set healthy boundaries for himself for both his relationship with Jade and other girls that openly flirt with him, doesn't properly talk to Jade about their feelings, and to me seems jaded (pun intended) from their relationship since we first meet them seeing how Beck doesn't stop Jade from being mean at Tori or other people. In many episodes of Victorious, whether together or broken up, we know how many girls openly flirt with Beck while Jade is around. He does nothing to stop the girls or Beck and Jade from talking properly to each other about why Beck lets all these girls flirt and touch him when he knows Jade will get jealous or why Jade feels jealous and insecure when other girls flirt with Beck. Also, if Beck does all of that to get Jade jealous because he likes to see that is a giant red flag to me (it reminds me of that episode in Adventure Time when Finn loved it when the Ice King and the Flame Princess got into a fight and when the truth was revealed the Flame Princess broke up with him as he was using her for his pleasure when the fighting between the Ice King and Flame Princess could've ended badly). Beck also doesn't take responsibility when he flirts with other girls or in his relationship with Jade. It raises the question about how they first got together, seeing how Jade is this scary mean girl who terrifies everyone that they don't approach her. We have Beck, the school's heartthrob, with every girl, both inside and outside the school, flirting and drooling over him. Beck is indifferent, does not interact with them, and does not set up proper boundaries when it happens. So, who was the first to ask each other out? At this point, I wouldn't be surprised that Beck made a bet with someone to ask out Jade, which led to this.

Honestly, Beck kissing Tori (literally cheating on jade right in front of her), Alisa Von situation, girls constantly touching him and openly flirting and him doing nothing, even kind of flirting back sometimes, their friends being the ones to tell girls he is taken instead of him saying it himself, I'm assuming he did drive a bunch of girls to school even when they were together, trying to get with Tori (again) while they were broken up the second time, constantly expressing he's unhappy with the relationship but getting back together because he finds it fun to fight with her (???), letting her walk out on him, never defending her even when she's the victim and just insulting her to their friends instead of ever taking her side, and much more fucked up stuff. All of that and he goes on to call her crazy, jealous and controlling, as if he hasn't given her every reason to be like that, dismissing her feelings each time he gives her a good reason to act that way (after already cheating on her). She might be overly aggressive but he literally made it clear that he likes that about her, then he proceeds to get upset and whine about it each time an argument (which starts because of HIM doing something wrong each time) occurs. They're both toxic, but if were picking sides, I'm with Jade. We also know that she's very traumatized and has some deep issues (which he probably knows of), surely she only acts like that out of love and fear of losing him, and still acts so careless and nonchalant about everything, as if she's just a crazy possessive chick for absolutely no reason. He doesn't even seem to care at all about her feelings, they just keep getting together because she keeps regretting leaving him then finding a random way to get him back, he says he loves her and the endless cycle continues. Jesus, i just wrote a paragraph about nickelodeon characters.
Nobody will EVER convince me that this love triangle wasnt a direct result of nickelodeon refusing to have tori with Andre. (At least later in the show)
my personal theory is that jade has untreated BPD and beck enables her paranoia and jealousy because he gets a weird kick out of it, making them become extremely toxic to each other
Beck literally said in almost two years, he couldn’t remember the last time she did something nice for him. I mean think about it, they were together for nearly TWO YEARS, & Jade literally has done NOTHING for her in all the time they were together!!! How sad is that?! For me that speaks volumes because to me, that basically means Jade obviously doesn’t appreciate having Beck in her life, not mention how incredibly jealous she becomes, whenever Beck is associating with another girl. To me it seems like Jade views Beck as her property as opposed her significant other.
I think it has more to do with her upbringing, she wasn't raised in a loving/affectionate home so she didn't know how to express it. She gave him lemonade for his birthday cause he liked it and she really thought that was being nice. Until Tori made clear it wasn't. Throughout the show you see she cares allot for him and because of her abonndement issues she is very scared of loosing him hence why she is possive.

I think their relationship would be a lot more meaningful if it was platonic cause not only would it show that a girl and boy can be friends with each other without it being inherently romantic, but it would also make Beck's actions (like in 52:00 and 31:00) a lot more impactful because even though their just friends, he would still go far out of his way to help/comfort Tori
Honestly I never shipped Beck and Tori or Beck and Jade as a child. I only cared for Tori and Andre the whole series. Now that I'm older I realize Beck and Jade are just that relationship you stay in when you're young because you've gotten used to it and the idea of being single again scares you. It's just the kind of relationship where you are in it because you feel uncomfortable with the idea of change and have your life too enmeshed with the other person to fully leave.

I don't know if Beck necessarily wanted a difficult, argumentative person to date as much as he just didn't want a total yes-man who pretended to have the exact same opinions as him like Meredith did. Like, I always wondered, would he have come to the same conclusion if he had gone on a date with someone who was _normal?_ And honest with him? I understand that the writers needed Meredith to be the extreme opposite of Jade, serving as the foil that would get Beck and Jade back together, but man. It kinda felt like that scene was saying that Beck's options were someone like Meredith or someone like Jade with no in-between which just isn't the case. If that's how Beck really feels, then alright, that's his prerogative, but the whole thing with Meredith always bothered me. Just felt like a slightly convoluted writing thing. I always did like the not-quite-friendship between Jade and Tori. I like that Tori, despite everything, cared about Jade and respected her. And Jade, despite being so prickly, couldn't help but have some respect for her in return. In a way, I actually liked the love triangle but specifically because I always liked that Tori and Beck never got together even though they did feel attracted to each other-to me, it was a nice subversion of the "Nice protagonist gets the guy who was dating the mean girl" trope, and I love how Jade and Tori's friendship came out stronger as a result.
i know they never would've made a queer storyline on the show, and that they were actively trying to be anti-ship to not deal with the stuff they did with icarly, but in the imaginary scenario where i have a time machine as well as a mind control machine to force everyone to adhere to my vision lmao, i would've done something like, after the jade and beck break up, their relationship actually gets better like as friends, we see them be better friends than they ever have been a couple, like she has a moment like the one in the clinic where she realizes she has nothing to be jealous over. meanwhile i would keep whatever beck and tori moments, like push the attraction a bit. then i would add a tori and jade sidequest, that shows how well they work together, like their dynamic, like the date episode. and so how i would start a big storyline, i would have jade and tori arguing for some reason, and tori being like why do you hate me i am nothing but nice to you, and jade being like ur so annoying and perfect all the timehave one of those classic screaming matches that ends with jade kissing her. then they move apart, and tori says like "woah" and jade freaks out and leaves, with tori too stunned to move and the the episode ends there lmao. then for some reason i picture jade going to beck to talk and freak out (again in my scenario now they're friends) like gah i kissed tori what the hell, and meanwhile we get tori talking it through with andre, and like the scene would cut between the two conversations. and i think jade would come to the acceptance that she likes girls pretty quickly, i always saw her as bi, but she could be gay, it really doesn't matter. i would adjust for it regarding her past relationship with beck depending on which is it, but ultimately it wouldn't affect anything. the girls would be awkward/avoiding each other though, and like everyone would feel how weird it is, but i think their friends would make them talk through it. there are a lot of things that we could do, like we could play up the love triangle except this time its beck and jade both having feelings for tori and her not knowing what to do, and meanwhile beck and jade being friends but also competing and it gets intense cuz they know hoe the other plays. or we could have like one of those where jade realizes she has feelings for tori obviously and decides to tell her, but before she can, tori says something that makes her think she doesn't have a chance so she doesn't say anything and just goes along with it. classic miscommunication. or tori could be the one who is ready like after the kiss to explore things with jade, but jade is the one who like pushes her away before she can admit anything. the world is our oyster. but i think ultimately they would get together, jade and tori i mean, and everyone would support it and it'd be really cute. and after they get together, i'd have them have cute couple moments after, cuz too many times have i seen a couple get together and not have anything change lmao. and for beck i have a hot take, well not so hot cuz i stole it from quinton reviews lmao, but i think since beck likes a girl who fights back and has her own opinion, he could def have a thing with trina. i kinda picture it like that one episode of shake it up where ty goes on a date with tinka at first because he is paid to but actually ends up liking who she is after getting to know her, like he would spend time with her one on one and realize that she is awesome actually and they have a lot in common, i think they would be really cute for a little while. anyway all that to say, would've been super easy to make tori and jade a thing lmao

To many people it's another forgettable show but for Gen Z lesbians it is the first time we saw a friendship that obviously seemed more than just a friendship. I mean, the way they would hug each other and hold hands still lives rent free in my brain. The show isn't on streaming but all the episodes are easily available online. If Cartoon Network's insta and tiktok won't acknowledge them for pride month I feel bad for them because this ship predates Bubbline and anything Steven Universe has done.

I genuinely like the fact that Tori didnt end up with Andre. There has got to be a line where guys and girl can be just friends. What i dont understand is why people keep shipping tori and jade. Like i genuinely dont see it. Jade is a bully who tries to kill her on multiple occasions, yet somehow that is a good thing?
I never like Jade/Beck together. They are a little toxic for each other. Beck let`s girls flirt with him when he`s with Jade and instead of talking about it nicely, Jade screams at him. She`s way too jealous for him.
Jade and Tori were just good friends. Idk how ppl seem them as a couple. I feel like Tori was also just that reliable good neutral friend, that was good looking. She made some mistakes for sure. But just main character wise, she was just a great friend. I think Jade really thought of Tori as a threat, so the jokes of Tori getting hurt like falling off the building stunt, gorilla, and shovel. All jokes intended to show she didn’t like Tori. It wasn’t until Beck tried to kiss Jade, that she actually began to like Tori. Beck, is just a guy, he doesn’t say much, he should, but not entirely all at fault.

48:03 it’s funny how the “Balls of Pain” could be seen as a metaphor for Jade. Especially after what you said concerning Jade pushing Tori to do things for herself and Beck opting to do them for her. Tori herself is drawn to the danger and excitement that someone like Jade brings, and would rather fight to make a connection after continuously being beaten down than sit on the sidelines. After all, she’s not a pushover.

I was a really big fan of this show!! this love triangle wasn't too much of a love triangle in my eyes because Tori never did anything to get between beck and jade or do anything to get beck's attention, they were just close friends although I was a tori and beck shipper. I hated beck and jade together, they were just way too toxic. and I didn't like the writers putting them back together either. jade gets jealous way too easily and does not know how to communicate and she thinks arguing is always the best solution, beck is no better either than telling other girls to back off, he just lets it happen. I do wish beck and tori got together, but I knew the writer's were not going to do it either. I know that beck and tori had small feelings for each other and tori wanted the kiss to happen but she knew it wasn't right. that episode will ALWAYS get me. the "tori goes platinum" episode, they had so much chemistry and I will always get annoyed that they just didn't let the kiss happen, but I get it haha

God I HATED beck and jade being together the entire time they were so AWFUL and it was so toxic yet it played for laughs or like it’s “healthy” when it’s really not. I was happy when they broke up and they should’ve stayed broken up tbh. They were better separated.

Boy did I click on this fast 😅. As a kid I always hated the moments where they played with the idea of Tori and Beck together cause they felt more like friends/siblings to me. As a teen/adult I feel the same way, but I also now know that Jade and Beck were SUPER toxic despite how much the show kept trying to make us root for them. I also don't ship Jade and Tori together either cause while their date episode is one of my faves, Jade has literally threatened Tori's life on multiple occasions and the flavor or enemies to lovers where one of them was a bully to the other just doesn't sit right with me. Honestly I just wish the show was never cancelled cause apparently in season 3 they were supposed to make the Tori and Andre ship canon 😫. Their friendship was top tier, and those two would easily be one of the best couples in the show 😙

Exactly! Beck never actively told these girls who flirt with him, to stop or that he's already taken. Which would be his responsibility being in a committed monogamous relationship. Jade was extremely jealous, but Beck never really behaved in a way that would show her that she actually can trust him on being loyal. The show only portrayed Jade as the only toxic part oft their relationship, without acknowledging Becks toxic behavior as well.

This show had such interesting characters, I wish it was more of a drama than a Nickelodeon comedy. It wouldve thrived so much more. Like a Glee meets Degrassi, meets Gossip Girl. We never got backstory on so many of them. They're all going for different arts, and we primarily just get to see Tori. I understand her name is quite literally the show and she's the main character, but usually with kid shows, the side characters are less interesting. The parents who offer comedic relief, the best friend who always needs help, the sibling with witty remarks, the beige love interest. With this show, it was just the high school group, and they're all theater kids, basically. They all had some chemistry together. Not giving those characters more depth felt so wasteful.
To answer your question about Trina, she got back into Hollywood Arts because Tori's friends staged a mugging so that Trina, who has martial arts training, could save Helen from the mugging and Helen would be so grateful, she'd let Trina back in. Which shouldn't work but it's nickelodeon so of course it did.
From the pilot episode, when Tori kissed Beck to get back at Jade, I could understand why Jade would be so hostile towards Tori. Also, Beck seemed to enjoy getting Jade riled up, and they even got back together because he missed fighting with her.

Jade may have a small reason to be hostile towards her after the kiss but it doesn’t excuse the hostility before it, Jade just was being plan mean for no reason.

Beck made me feel he likes being in a toxic relationship in a strange way (purely personal interpretation) : he doesn’t want or know to be a good boyfriend therefore he gets with a toxic girl so people would say that he is way too good for her,that she doesn’t deserve him ,etc. which is why i think he decided to end the relationship when their friends told d them they are tired of both of them instead of just Jade, he went back after being rejected by Tori because he realized that with a healthy girl he’d actually have to put effort and he didn’t want it

The problem i had with Beck's characterization is that he never treated Jade the way he treated Tori. He always extended empathy and understanding to Tori even when she was flipping out but as soon as Jade had any kind of anger/anxiety it felt like he was tired of it or didnt care. They never showed him trying to be a considerate bf, he never denied advances from girls, and then always made Jade seem like she was crazy. Then the creator, himself, having writing credits and increasing Jade's toxicity explains a lot.

I shipped Jade and Tori much like I shipped Sam and Freddie. They have their similarities but bounce off each other in a different way. I know Seddie didn't work in the end which is fine by me but in my head, Jade and Tori went to college and ended up together.

growing up is realizing Beck is more of a problem than the show pretends, because he absolutely welcomes and enables attention and flirtation his way, and while Jade is of course written as an over the topic toxic gf, it IS always left to her to establish that he has a girlfriend. The problem is, it's always depicted as Jade being unnecessarily territorial, with no focus being on Beck for passively welcoming the attention. Not saying Jade isn't behaving poorly often, but Beck absolutely knows about her insecurities and her bad buttons, and he either pushes on those, or lets others push on those.
Jade and Beck's relationship is toxic as Jade lets her insecurities, jealousy, and bad attitude affect her relationship with Beck. Jade gets jealous whenever another girl talks to Beck or interacts with him. Then there's the comment Jade makes that Beck can only be friends with "ugly" girls and gets violent towards him and can't trust him (which makes sense as Back doesn't set boundaries for himself when he interacts with other girls, as we see in the show). When they do break up, Jade still doesn't like Beck hanging out or dating other girls, and the first time they break up, she wants him back to the point she's desperate and does whatever she can to get Beck back, hell, Beck admitted that he's happy that they broke up as Jade isn't a good girlfriend or done anything nice for him. Then Jade's nasty attitude in general always ruins their moments when they are together as she makes snide comments, lets her anger get the best of her, and at times, they can't have a normal conversation without them getting into a fight or Jade just letting her attitude get the best of her.
Beck isn't innocent either as he is too relaxed when other girls flirt with him, doesn't set healthy boundaries for himself for both his relationship with Jade and other girls that openly flirt with him, doesn't properly talk to Jade about their feelings, and to me seems jaded (pun intended) from their relationship since we first meet them seeing how Beck doesn't stop Jade from being mean at Tori or other people. In many episodes of Victorious, whether together or broken up, we know how many girls openly flirt with Beck while Jade is around. He does nothing to stop the girls or Beck and Jade from talking properly to each other about why Beck lets all these girls flirt and touch him when he knows Jade will get jealous or why Jade feels jealous and insecure when other girls flirt with Beck. Also, if Beck does all of that to get Jade jealous because he likes to see that is a giant red flag to me (it reminds me of that episode in Adventure Time when Finn loved it when the Ice King and the Flame Princess got into a fight and when the truth was revealed the Flame Princess broke up with him as he was using her for his pleasure when the fighting between the Ice King and Flame Princess could've ended badly). Beck also doesn't take responsibility when he flirts with other girls or in his relationship with Jade. It raises the question about how they first got together, seeing how Jade is this scary mean girl who terrifies everyone that they don't approach her. We have Beck, the school's heartthrob, with every girl, both inside and outside the school, flirting and drooling over him. Beck is indifferent, does not interact with them, and does not set up proper boundaries when it happens. So, who was the first to ask each other out? At this point, I wouldn't be surprised that Beck made a bet with someone to ask out Jade, which led to this.

Honestly, Beck kissing Tori (literally cheating on jade right in front of her), Alisa Von situation, girls constantly touching him and openly flirting and him doing nothing, even kind of flirting back sometimes, their friends being the ones to tell girls he is taken instead of him saying it himself, I'm assuming he did drive a bunch of girls to school even when they were together, trying to get with Tori (again) while they were broken up the second time, constantly expressing he's unhappy with the relationship but getting back together because he finds it fun to fight with her (???), letting her walk out on him, never defending her even when she's the victim and just insulting her to their friends instead of ever taking her side, and much more fucked up stuff. All of that and he goes on to call her crazy, jealous and controlling, as if he hasn't given her every reason to be like that, dismissing her feelings each time he gives her a good reason to act that way (after already cheating on her). She might be overly aggressive but he literally made it clear that he likes that about her, then he proceeds to get upset and whine about it each time an argument (which starts because of HIM doing something wrong each time) occurs. They're both toxic, but if were picking sides, I'm with Jade. We also know that she's very traumatized and has some deep issues (which he probably knows of), surely she only acts like that out of love and fear of losing him, and still acts so careless and nonchalant about everything, as if she's just a crazy possessive chick for absolutely no reason. He doesn't even seem to care at all about her feelings, they just keep getting together because she keeps regretting leaving him then finding a random way to get him back, he says he loves her and the endless cycle continues. Beck literally said in almost two years, he couldn’t remember the last time she did something nice for him. I mean think about it, they were together for nearly TWO YEARS, & Jade literally has done NOTHING for her in all the time they were together!!! How sad is that?! For me that speaks volumes because to me, that basically means Jade obviously doesn’t appreciate having Beck in her life, not mention how incredibly jealous she becomes, whenever Beck is associating with another girl. I think it has more to do with her upbringing, she wasn't raised in a loving/affectionate home so she didn't know how to express it. I don't know if Beck necessarily wanted a difficult, argumentative person to date as much as he just didn't want a total yes-man who pretended to have the exact same opinions as him like Meredith did. Like, I always wondered, would he have come to the same conclusion if he had gone on a date with someone who was _normal?_ And honest with him? I understand that the writers needed Meredith to be the extreme opposite of Jade, serving as the foil that would get Beck and Jade back together, but man. It kinda felt like that scene was saying that Beck's options were someone like Meredith or someone like Jade with no in-between which just isn't the case. If that's how Beck really feels, then alright, that's his prerogative, but the whole thing with Meredith always bothered me. Just felt like a slightly convoluted writing thing.
I always did like the not-quite-friendship between Jade and Tori. I like that Tori, despite everything, cared about Jade and respected her. And Jade, despite being so prickly, couldn't help but have some respect for her in return. In a way, I actually liked the love triangle but specifically because I always liked that Tori and Beck never got together even though they did feel attracted to each other-to me, it was a nice subversion of the "Nice protagonist gets the guy who was dating the mean girl" trope, and I love how Jade and Tori's friendship came out stronger as a result.

i know they never would've made a queer storyline on the show, and that they were actively trying to be anti-ship to not deal with the stuff they did with icarly, but in the imaginary scenario where i have a time machine as well as a mind control machine to force everyone to adhere to my vision lmao, i would've done something like, after the jade and beck break up, their relationship actually gets better like as friends, we see them be better friends than they ever have been a couple, like she has a moment like the one in the clinic where she realizes she has nothing to be jealous over. meanwhile i would keep whatever beck and tori moments, like push the attraction a bit. then i would add a tori and jade sidequest, that shows how well they work together, like their dynamic, like the date episode.
and so how i would start a big storyline, i would have jade and tori arguing for some reason, and tori being like why do you hate me i am nothing but nice to you, and jade being like ur so annoying and perfect all the timehave one of those classic screaming matches that ends with jade kissing her. then they move apart, and tori says like "woah" and jade freaks out and leaves, with tori too stunned to move and the the episode ends there lmao. then for some reason i picture jade going to beck to talk and freak out (again in my scenario now they're friends) like gah i kissed tori what the hell, and meanwhile we get tori talking it through with andre, and like the scene would cut between the two conversations. and i think jade would come to the acceptance that she likes girls pretty quickly, i always saw her as bi, but she could be gay, it really doesn't matter. i would adjust for it regarding her past relationship with beck depending on which is it, but ultimately it wouldn't affect anything.
the girls would be awkward/avoiding each other though, and like everyone would feel how weird it is, but i think their friends would make them talk through it. there are a lot of things that we could do, like we could play up the love triangle except this time its beck and jade both having feelings for tori and her not knowing what to do, and meanwhile beck and jade being friends but also competing and it gets intense cuz they know hoe the other plays. or we could have like one of those where jade realizes she has feelings for tori obviously and decides to tell her, but before she can, tori says something that makes her think she doesn't have a chance so she doesn't say anything and just goes along with it. classic miscommunication. or tori could be the one who is ready like after the kiss to explore things with jade, but jade is the one who like pushes her away before she can admit anything. the world is our oyster. but i think ultimately they would get together, jade and tori i mean, and everyone would support it and it'd be really cute. and after they get together, i'd have them have cute couple moments after, cuz too many times have i seen a couple get together and not have anything change lmao.
and for beck i have a hot take, well not so hot cuz i stole it from quinton reviews lmao, but i think since beck likes a girl who fights back and has her own opinion, he could def have a thing with trina. i kinda picture it like that one episode of shake it up where ty goes on a date with tinka at first because he is paid to but actually ends up liking who she is after getting to know her, like he would spend time with her one on one and realize that she is awesome actually and they have a lot in common, i think they would be really cute for a little while.
anyway all that to say, would've been super easy to make tori and jade a thing lmao

To many people it's another forgettable show but for Gen Z lesbians it is the first time we saw a friendship that obviously seemed more than just a friendship. I mean, the way they would hug each other and hold hands still lives rent free in my brain. The show isn't on streaming but all the episodes are easily available online. If Cartoon Network's insta and tiktok won't acknowledge them for pride month I feel bad for them because this ship predates Bubbline and anything Steven Universe has done.

Jade and Tori were just good friends. Idk how ppl seem them as a couple. I feel like Tori was also just that reliable good neutral friend, that was good looking. She made some mistakes for sure. But just main character wise, she was just a great friend. I think Jade really thought of Tori as a threat, so the jokes of Tori getting hurt like falling off the building stunt, gorilla, and shovel. All jokes intended to show she didn’t like Tori. It wasn’t until Beck tried to kiss Jade, that she actually began to like Tori. Beck, is just a guy, he doesn’t say much, he should, but not entirely all at fault.

Yeah, no one ever talks about how tori would also feel jealous of beck passively accepting other girls' advances. I know she wouldn't react exactly like jade but tori still had moments of bottling up her anger and exploding, like pouring hot cheese on cat and her ex.

I was a really big fan of this show!! this love triangle wasn't too much of a love triangle in my eyes because Tori never did anything to get between beck and jade or do anything to get beck's attention, they were just close friends although I was a tori and beck shipper. I hated beck and jade together, they were just way too toxic. and I didn't like the writers putting them back together either. jade gets jealous way too easily and does not know how to communicate and she thinks arguing is always the best solution, beck is no better either than telling other girls to back off, he just lets it happen. I do wish beck and tori got together, but I knew the writer's were not going to do it either.

Boy did I click on this fast 😅. As a kid I always hated the moments where they played with the idea of Tori and Beck together cause they felt more like friends/siblings to me. As a teen/adult I feel the same way, but I also now know that Jade and Beck were SUPER toxic despite how much the show kept trying to make us root for them. I also don't ship Jade and Tori together either cause while their date episode is one of my faves, Jade has literally threatened Tori's life on multiple occasions and the flavor or enemies to lovers where one of them was a bully to the other just doesn't sit right with me. Honestly I just wish the show was never cancelled cause apparently in season 3 they were supposed to make the Tori and Andre ship canon 😫. Their friendship was top tier, and those two would easily be one of the best couples in the show 😙
