How to Choose A Type of Speargun Rubber | ADRENO

  • There are many types of speargun rubbers, all with different purposes in mind. Adreno's Trevor Ketchion takes us through the different types of powerbands for spearfishing and talks about which rubbers works best in different conditions.
    The standard USA latex 16mm rubber has a decent internal diamteter hole, standard latex and black UV coating. It has medium stretch with enough reisstance to provide good power. At a medium price, it is a good option for standard spear guns.
    The Rob Allen 16mm rubber is quite a tight rubber, good for heavy shafts which require extra power. This high punch isn’t as useful in a roller gun which is better suited to a stretchy, smoother style of rubber.
    The standard latex rubber has plenty of stretch and is very smooth with no UV coating. This requires the rubber to be cut shorter to provide the power needed to propel the shaft through the water and is susceptible to wear from sunlight as it is unprotected by UV coating.
    The Aimrite pink rubber has become increasingly popular. The smaller internal hole gives extra latex and is protected by a UV coating. It provides slightly more punch than the standard USA latex rubber.
    The Salvimar acid green rubber is an incredibly stretchy rubber with a smaller internal diameter hole, black latex and 1mm green UV coating. The extra stretch means cutting the rubber to a third of the length of what you usually would to produce sufficient power. This is great for roller guns in the delivery of lighter shafts as it provides a smoother propulsion for shooting smaller fish accurately.
    The Manisub rubber provides smooth delivery of power to the shaft. The larger internal hole reduces the power however the resistance of the latex is still good, with a 1mm thick UV coating. This rubber is good for any gun as well as roller gun as it doesn’t put excess pressure on the roller.

    Ive been through loads of different rubbers on various guns. I Ideally stick to the limits of what the rubber is capable of. Match it to the rig you are using. Ideally managing recoil with accuracy is essential.
    Thanks Adreno for the info.

    When you talk about European guns etc, what are the differences between guns please?

    • @urb6857
      @urb6857 4 года назад

      jonnywaselectric Euro guns are meant for hunting fish under 10 pounds and are light and somwhat accurate but do not have the puncturing power of a railgun. They use smaller shafts (6.0-7.5mm) thinner barrels and don’t have a shaft guide. They are perfect for small, agile and easily spooked fish aka the Mediterranean in a nut shell.
      Rail guns are basically a bigger euro gun with a shaft guide (the rail that holds the shaft). This style of gun is used for hunting larger fish.

    I personally think that smaller ID and OD rubbers like the cressi brown14 and scarlet15, primeline 14s and 14.5s etc... work way better on the classic band guns, than any 16+ rubber in the market.

    Hello Trevor, hello Adreno...
    Thank you for the informative videos that Adreno shares with us regularly
    I have converted a new Cressi speargun to a roller using MVD head. I used blue Rob Allen 16mm for the bands. For the 90cm gun I cut a pair of rubbers to 60cm each. To be anchored on the sides of the gun and fed through the rollers back to the appropriate shark fin.
    I also have black Cressi rubbers, do you think that the black Cressi would perform better than the Rob Allen for the roller?

    • @LuaiGhazali
      @LuaiGhazali 7 лет назад +2

      Before this video, I thought that Rob Allen blue is ideal for rollers. So I guess the pink Aimrite or the Salvimar maybe better for rollers... Where I live options are extremely limited. Ordering from abroad is usually the solution.

      @@muratcey7584 Thanks, I managed to replace the Rob Allen bands with Salvimar acid green 16mm. That was like 6 years ago 😅. In my experience those are easier to stretch than the Rob Allen, they worked well. Rob Allen bands are very high performance when used in regular (non roller) configuration single or double, in double band they shoot very accurate at longer distances with higher power, they are durable too.

      Hi Shannon, for a 90cm railgun we'd recommend two 60cm rubbers of standard latex which is what you already have. As a beginner, it does take a little while to get the technique of loading down pat

    • @shannonhartnett
      @shannonhartnett 7 лет назад

      Adreno Spearfishing ok thanks I'm doing the hip load technique I'm not real keen on trying the chest load just yet I had a completely collapsed lunge on my right hand side back in 2014 and because of that I only shore dive 10m and under here on the mid north coast I was advised against diving at all by my specialist for at least 6months and even after that there is still the chance it could happen again but I love diving too dam much to just let it all go if I'm going out it's doing what I like best and drowning isn't as scary as all think it is it's very peaceful I almost drowned in when I was little I was pushed in by some little brat and all I remember of it was reaching for the surface looking up at the light reflection on the water while I was sinking and I wasn't afraid it was really calming just as I was about to shut my eyes I then got scooped up by someone and saved it was an experience I will never forget about so yeah drowning is the least of my worries really I more afraid of getting eaten by narks now that on the other hand would be a bad way to go
