Came across your channel by accident but I'm glad I did. Love you work and the tips you give. Awesome to see Aussie car vids as said in previous comments. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the comparison. On my old tractor I’ll be going with BLO I think as it’s a bit cheaper than penetrol. Instead of mineral turps, you try mixing it with some ‘pure gum turpentine’. It does the same thing, but smells amazing and eucalyptus-perfect for us Australians. I’ve used it heaps with BLO on woodwork.
Yeah nice. Never knew any of that. Greatly helpful mate. Started looking around Central Queensland for an old Ford to save. An old Cortina would be nice. I'm coming close to the end of all your videos. Will be waiting for more
Beer time, all the time, good vid man, just coz i'm loitering around havin a beer. Took a break from one of my build's and seen this. Good explanation and editing, You're down with shitty bangers keepin it alive, i like it. Thanks mate.
I do wasteland costuming and have been trying to figure out how to seal rust on my rat rod bike. Tried a few spots with rustoleum matte clear coat and while it wasn’t bad I never thought about boiled linseed. I like the look a bit better and am most likely going to flip over to that. Great video very informative. Thank you!
You can get penetrol at lowes and home depot, not sure about Walmart. I've used penetrol on wood projects and it's a tough coating, and I'm pretty sure it'll stop the rust from getting worse because it soaks in, whereas the clear coat won't.
If the surface rust is coarse then a thin coat won’t seal it and therefore really do not much at all. I’d do 1 or the other not both . If it’s smooth clearcoat works great. Take a look at the HQ video it is sanded smooth and cleared . Looks great. 🍺👍
@@backshed5295 Yeah, the surface area plays the biggest role in all of that, thats why Im thinking with molecules. Properly sanded and evened out is a must to not waste any of the products, but what Im assuming is one way to go, is to apply a chemically dense coat first, and something more weather resistant later on. If these two mix together at least. Unless one can afford a bunch of whatever, then its alright coating even the dirt.
After-thought: If I was going with acrylic, I think I'd use disposable foam rollers and a good cutter brush; save on cans, save on masking up. (But then, I'm a painter.) More thinking: Would probably need to mix something into the acrylic to slow down drying time (?)
Yeah a roller could work mate . You may just need to thin it a little and do it on a cooler day so as you say the drying time in your roller tray is slowed down. Definitely do-able. 🍺🍺👍
Can you throw a LS motor into a Ford and not need engineering certificates and all that rubbish? Thanks for the videos, good to see Aussie cars after a million US V8 revivals.
Brilliantly logical, common sense/science comparison. Also brilliant because I didn't have to do it myself, though I've wondered.
Thank you.
No drama at all mate.

Are you a Hq fan? Holden fan? Or just cars in general as we have a bit of a mix coming up?
@@backshed5295 I have a HQ ute in a fixup state atm but own a few fords. I just like Aussie stuff mate. Keeps the down unders cars alive if i can.
@@JAStheACE absolutely mate.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment
@@backshed5295 no probs mate, good to see others going to the effort of filming their builds as i cant be stuffed filming LOL. Cheerz

Dude, that was awesome. Very helpful. Beer time!
Cheers mate. 🍺👍
Very good point you made to the body of car and if you clean up the rust on the car is good thing.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I LEARNED A LOT!!!
Short and to the point. Well played sir.

Hey mate Raw linseed still needs to be mixed with turps as well to cut down on the stickiness we use raw linseed mixed with turps on timber decks
🍺👍
Question Michael
What would you advise for rust protection on the underside of my 4WD. Considering I’ve never done this before
Mate i dont know honestly
Google is your friend . 🍺👍
Feronite metal primer from an Aussie company Boat craft pacific used on oil rigs
🍺🍺👍
penatrol is cheaper, apply with a clean rag, no streaks, love it. Boiled linseed oil yellows.
Cheers mate🍺🍺👍
Would it be a bad idea to rattle coat the penetrol two days after the application? Thinking a thin and moderate in speed spray from 5 inches afar.

I’d like to do an LS , but maybe not in this f100 and yep it would need engineering unfortunately.
Got an update on how they held up beyond a month?
That f100 will be in a full episode shortly mate , we’ll take a look then 🍺👍
It's amazing the suckers who get fooled into believing you need to put something on a patina to protect it
Yeah you can just leave it if you want i suppose
