What an amazing series. I'm so glad I found you hahaha just wanted to thank you for all the support you're giving to us. Those videos are REALLY helpful :)
The thing I like the most about your videos is that you sound genuine. Don't get me wrong, I'm not vouching for you. Mostly because everyone is capable of making a decision on who they want to listen and/or follow. But I do enjoy an honest and down to earth video. I've been implementing most of your suggestions before I came across your channel and somehow they work for me. The thing that stops me a bit from growing is that despite having a few paying clients, I still have no name to introduce myself to the market. I mean, I'm pretty good at naming companies, branding and general graphic/web design. When it comes to myself, I'm afraid to go the wrong way choosing a name. Any suggestions? One almost sure thing, I don't want my name to be my brand. I outsource some of the work and would like my network of freelancers to identify themselves as part of a company and not as my employees.
I dont agree with working for free for anybody other than friends/familiy.. Then they want it for free next time aswell, plus you are worth something - not nothing even if you are not perfect on timing or quality. Just because a cafe makes bad coffee i dont expect to get it for free.. Be willing to negociate price then if you are new and you feel like you just want a client, but seriously never work for no payment! My first few clients i was willing to negociate the price but i never worked for free and they were happy and satisfied with what they received and i was happy because i got the first clients - the deal works. I asked about 800 usd from my first client while i would normally charge around 1500 usd for that work. I still made 800 usd though on work i can do in 1 day so i was happy and excited.
Hi Jesse! I just found you today and I'm so glad I did! I have wanted to be a designer for many, MANY years. I'm starting to explore doing online work and eventually will add design to my offerings. I love that you are so enthusiastic and encouraging and I think it's funny when you talk about being an old dinosaur at 33. I'm 55 and just starting out. I refuse to believe it's too late - the technology is a little harder for me, but it's never too late. Thanks for posting such awesome, generous content.
I have a question if any of you guys dont mind answering, when designing a website i cant code but can use sites like squarespace and wix to design how would that work with a client is it just a matter of giving then the code for the site or are most aware that thats what theyll just be using and is it unprofessional to say i use those to make them, i hope this makes sense but id love some advice. Thank you

I even started my own small brand including a domain and email. Even setup a Trello account for future projects. Setup a Behance page as well, it only contains small concept designs though. Not really stand-out wor though. Thanks for the motivation. You might not realize it, but it actually helps a lot:) www.behance.net/boredalot

I know this video is directed towards designers, but I feel like these tips are really applicable for freelance photographers and artists. This is the most comprehensive and inspiring video I've seen on how to take your passion and turn it into a business and it answered all of my questions and eased all of my doubt. Great, GREAT content!

Getting back into my artwork with 2d animation but this year I really wanted to learn graphic design to further progress into motion media. I've taken some great notes from your videos I cant wait to start applying all the great knowledge.

100%. When it comes to achieving your dreams, your only limit is the ones you put on yourself - the hardest part is starting, that first step, but take it anyway. That’ll lead to another and another, you’ll fall and fail, but you have to keep going. You can learn design, you cannot learn passion, get out there and make amazing things, Meenaskshi! 🤘
This is such a great video because you're so authentic and honest. I also ADORE the bloopers at the end !!! You're just so approachable and awesome, thanks for taking the time to make these. I'll be bingeing you for awhile now and loving every minute of it ;)
Hey, you are amazing. I decided to change my occupation from teaching language to programmimng, but I cant decide what to choose: front end or back end or idk how to start and from what.? I would appreciate any support
Hi Jesse. Would you have any advice for someone that is looking for a career change? I have always been passionate about art and design and always fantasized about being a part of the industry. I am at a point where I just want to pursue my dreams but everyone is saying you need to have natural talent at it and that it's kind of late for it ( I am 31) and it makes me question myself. Do you think talent is a born skill or something you can learn? What would be your suggestion to get some clarity around this and if it's worth pursuing a career change in design?
Jesse’s you motivated me to not spend money in college and drop out before I started spending more money. Did college for a semester and decided to actually tell my self I Can do this! By my self! With motivation! And building a strong portfolio.
whats up m8 I'm trying to be a graphic designer. I made 2 years of graphic design school and now i want to learn to create projects. HOW CAN I START. Thanks!
Thanks you. I thought that I don't know how to start, but because of your video's I understand that I've already started to do. I made a lot of steps that I ignored and devaule. 🤩
At the moment, I’m currently a freshman in college for graphic design and I’ve never taken graphic design classes yet since I won’t be taking them either sophomore year second semester or beginning of junior year. What should I do currently so I’m ahead of the ball in life so it’s easy to getting an internship for a company for example. What’s a good place to make a portfolio as well? Last question, I’ve never taken graphic design classes in high school, but I have taken art for years now.
I really don't like the idea of working for free, but though my initial reaction to that advice was to roll my eyes I will bite the bullet and actually contact 20 local companies in my area and see what they say. My guess is they won't want free work because if they needed work they would already be on the lookout and they also feel that with no money on the line they do not have any authority over me to get any work done, or they will be suspicious or something. But I will certainly give it a go. I will let you know the results in a few weeks.
Let me know how it goes. Make sure you prompt the client with a very professional introduction and clarify the work will be fantastic and be of value to them and you.
Hey! I love your energy and advice. I'm a performing artist and COVID has unfortunatly caused my career to come to a screeching halt. I want to make a career transition and I think design would be a good choice with my creative background. Getting started IS the hardest part and I'm struggling with what I even like or want to create- my "niche" so to speak. Do you have any advice on virtual meetings (like creative get-togethers via zoom) that I can join to listen in on to gain inspiration and possibly network? Thanks Jesse!

Hey, I am just getting starting in design with little experience, I did some work for family and friends.. can I start freelancing? if yes where should I start?
As someone who eagerly wants to dive into this field of design (I'm a creative spirit but a total beginner!!) I must say that your tip about going to small local businesses early on when your experience is at 0% and offering your services for free is absolutely brilliant. I say this primarily because I suffer from a lot of social anxiety (it gets BAD) and I know that having prior knowledge of a person and how we work together helps with future interactions quite a lot. So I agree that it is smart to start as a friend before learning in as a professional
jesse are there any courses you recommend for gettting start with photo editing for UX designers and do you mean leearn photo editing or how to make icons and all that

Quick question, what do you recommend i do regarding schooling. I am stuck between going to a community college then transferring and getting a certificate from an institution such as The Art Institute. I know it's a pretty broad question but any knowledge on your part would be highly appreciated !! thank you !
