I just can’t stand slavery
It is a sin to me
Until the slaves are free of their chains, I will stay enraged
I’ve heard Truth and Garrison
Speak of abolition
Underground Railroad’s great
It’s a start, so I did my part
But with the horrible Compromise of 1850
Kansas-Nebraska Act letting popular sovereignty
Decide if those states will end up free or pro-slavery
Border Ruffians best watch out, oh!
Ooh, slavery must be through
I’ll do what I must do
At Pottawatomie Creek I’ll sneak up and run ‘em through
Free-Soilers are my crew
It’s what God wants me to do
Bleeding Kansas so be it
Slavery, it must be through
And still slavery persists
But in Massachusetts
I got my Secret Six backing plans for my violence
Victory in Kansas and all I hear is freedom, freedom
But not for the slaves of south, cause their masters still beat ‘em
If slavery is to end one thing’s for sure
We got to fight it like we fight a war
Start a slave rebellion by invading Harper’s Ferry
And seize the weapons that are stored there in the armory
Called for thousands of men, but just twenty-one will join me
A saner man, might have just thought twice no!
Ooh! Slavery must be through
Got the guns we need to
Go farm to farm and arm the slaves so they can rebel, too
Wait, we’re surrounded, crew
Farmers, militias too
Is that Robert E Lee with the Marines?
This raid is through
So I’m charged with murder, treason, conspiracy
Sentenced to hang when I am found guilty
I, John Brown, am now quite certain that the crimes of
This guilty land can not be purged but with blood
I’m sorry
The abolitionist John Brown can’t come to the telegram right now
Oh
‘Cause he’s dead
“We hold these truths to be self evident; that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by there creator with certain unalienable rights... Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” JohnBrown was continuing the Revolution the Founders failed to finish. You can’t be a free nation and own people. The man was a hero.
Super Nintendo
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness -Thomas Jefferson from the Declaration of Independence
He did go too far, though
He had good intentions. However, his methods for doing such were not great. That's like if superheros just killed all criminals. Sure, they got rid of the bad guys and did it under good intentions. Their methods are sure to make them seem less as heroes. If anything, he was a violent vigilante. However, learning about him is great, and it's neat to see how he went against all odds and stood up for what he believed in. Although he went the radical route, and kicked off one of the biggest turning points in American history.
@@jayzgaming3952 Brown was pushed to radicalism by slavers, though. The South continued to press and expand slavery in the United States with the Kansas Nebraska Act, the Fugitive slave act, and starting violence in Kansas. It was the slavers who started shit with the Sack of Lawrence. Brown didn’t start the fight, he just attempted to finish it.
this was made three years ago yet here we are, during quarentine, watching these vides.
This was written 1 year ago but same here brother, also love the fact you have uwu in your username
Now six
This guy is really passionate about his job
When your social studies teacher sends you this on Google classroom🤣🤣
yeah i know right
My history teacher showed us this- I couldn’t stop laughing haha
no bc this is what im doing rn
My teacher actually showed this to my class during our American History class
Fellow history teacher here- I love your videos! They help me reinforce the content I teach and my kids really like them (Common Sense is one of our favorites!) Thanks so much for helping me make history fun!
This is by far my favorite video. Mr.Betts you have my made history life 10 times better. I watch your videos in my free time because I learn and laugh all at once. Thank you for making these videos
Uses spoon as telegraph
Me: seems legit
Thanks for making history fun :)
+Connie Tillman it is fun 😊
As a fellow historian, I am glad to see my kids and teens finally interested in history because of this channel :)
John Brown-Timothy McVeigh Timothy McVeigh -John Brown.
Yea
So agree
John Brown is awesome. Radical opposition to slavery, including immediate abolition, was always the only reasonable and moderate position. People who supported maintaining "ownership" of humans by other humans for even one more day were not moderates.
I was watching this in class, we couldn't stop laughing XD and we also watched a few other of your videos too
Okay I did too gurl ;-;
I like your resourfulness in the end were you use a spoon to represent a telegraph.
+Evy Castro that's not how they worked 😉
i know right!
@@MrBettsClass shhhh they'll never know
“Slavery is a sin to me” slavery is a sin to me too, Same with racism
YES!
No it's not
same
@@kirbygraham5044 yes it is
racism isn’t what you think
Best video yet. Digging the George Clooney look.
This was by far one of the coolest history videos ive seen on here.
Honestly, I liked Jhon Brown. Even if he did it the wrong way he was trying to do a good thing because the constitiution says all men are equal and these people holding slaves are breaking the law that THEY created.
I wouldn’t even consider Brown’s method to be the wrong way. Why is the American Independence achieved through violence considered right and Brown’s revolution considered wrong?
@@Quinntus79 Honestly, i don't think the way we got independence was right but you have a point.
@@Theawesomeninja_XD Admittedly the colonists were acting a bit spoiled, and should have tried to de escalate the situation. Brown however was completely justified in his violence. The Dredd Scott Decision and Bloody Kansas made clear slavery wouldn’t end peacefully. You can’t yell for peace until after removing your enemies boot from your throat.
This by far has to be my favorite video that you've made! I've watched it over and over again, and I even have it bookmarked :D My teacher sent us the link to watch it
good teacher
Great video as usual. I was worried about you as it appeared you had accumulated much gray hair since your last video. Glad to see it was part of the video look though. Great job!
+Mark Chicone trying to get this one out or on time have me some more real ones
that sounds kind of rude
god mr betts, you have stolen our hearts. you, truly, are my god. your videos are compositions of purified beauty.

Your classroom looks awesome I wish I could be there
+Baron Zemo I do love my classroom
We re just learning about this time and this popped in my feed. I love the last part.
This song helped me get a question about John brown at an academic bowl competition
Now that I think about it almost all of the history questions I get are from your videos
My class was obsessed with this song and I have no idea why but good video 👍
Am I the only one that doesn't feel like singing and dancing in front of pictures of slaves being whipped is a good way to cover the topic? I get there were no bad intentions but this just feels so insensitive.
I can’t get this song out of my mind Thank you for making this I watched this at my Social Studies period at School:)
He’s beautiful💚

He did it!
This is actually a work of art. Seriously I would choose to meet you over Taylor swift. You are my hero. I will send the link to my social studies teacher.
One of my students danced to this! It wasn't bad.
I am gonna ace the part of my exam that has John Brown for sure now. Haha thanks Mr. Bett!
I made a parody, put in a dispute before posting, and they upheld copyright claim against me so that I can't monetize. How can I monetize my parodies as it is considered legal to do them to an existing song track? Any advice appreciated.
The part where you had the squirt guns and acted like you where in cenimatics, got me dead 💀
At class today I watched this, it made me subscribe to you, this is great!
I like how you ended it with the telegraph part
my teacher played this in class today and as a taylor swift fan, i loved it
This is my favorite so far.
I just realized what the "telegram" was made out of and it is beautiful
We listened to this in school today because we are learning about this stuff and we all laughed so hard I know it was supposed to be serious but we couldn’t stop
Mr Soller was an absolute chad of a teacher.

you're so dope i love these vids
Can you do a song on 21 savages “bank account” or “numb” by 21 savage
This is beautiful… *I listened to this for five hours now*
Years ago from today John brown raided harpers ferry
just watched this in history and it was lit
Same it was actual fire
2:31 Is that a stove knob that the spoon is taped to?
What are you talking about. That's obviously an authentic telegraph machine.
Yes, it's clearly authentic. So is the authentic telegraph machine created from an authentic stove knob?
i luv your vids and this vid this is ma fav keep it up mr betts
This actually slaps
Put it on 2x speed. Trust me.
my whole class learned a lot form your videos so thank you
+John Anichini thanks, I'll keep making them
My class watches you in social studies. Just saw this today!
I love this music video personally my favorite from you. Thank you for making my journey of social studies super fun and without these videos social studies would be super boring
I like most of your videos, but this one was even better! I like it so, so much more than Swifts original lyrics because you used the faster pace to add content rather than repeat the same 6 words 50 times in 3 minutes
Btw, you're hair looks great! You're going to age well 😉
Mrbetts my teacher mr rauchmiller plays your songs all the time i like them but class don't and are you friends with him because he says your his friend and you guys email eachother
this is so funny, but also talks about civil war and also gives us knowledge :D
I loved that!!!
Ugh, I wish I had found this video one week sooner! ...Eh, they can see it anyway. 😁
SOOO FIREEE!!!!!!
I am doing an individual document over John Brown and need a lot of help but this video gave me so much info
