Linda Ronstadt is a multi Grammy winning artist, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame who started in the 60s and has hits in Country, Rock, Big Band, Pop, Movie themes, operetta, and duets and trios with other legends in music. To love music is to follow her career through five decades.

Linda Ronstadt had the most beautiful voice on the planet. And she used it beautifully across multiple genres. She’s amazing. Most people don’t start out with her Mariachi music since she had multiple hit pop songs. Thanks for doing this. She is American with roots in her father’s Mexico. Nice choice🌺✌️

Linda Ronstadt is one of kind her career started in the ‘60s and can sing country, pop, rock, opera, jazz, blues, and sings Spanish because she is from the Sonoran Desert, Tucson Arizona, she is German/ Mexican-American. She has been successful at every genre.

Definitely, Linda’s someone to pursue! But how unusual to begin with one of Linda’s Spanish songs when she established herself as the premier female vocalist of her time in English. You will see her versatility in hearing her renditions of songs (particularly live) like Blue Bayou, You’re No Good, and Desperado. But you’ll still want to return to her mariachi style La Cigarra if you’d like to be amazed!

She's from US but her father o grand dad was Mexican. Her spanish is PERFECT. Blue bayou was a hit in US.

She is American with Mexican German background. From Tucson Arizona She sang many styles of music beautifully. She recorded Spanish-language albums to celebrate her Mexican heritage. For something entirely different check out "I Knew you When," "Party Girl" (live), "Tracks of My Tears," "Desperado," "Ohh Baby Baby," or anything else by Linda!

Random is just the most wonderful way to learn to appreciate all music. I learned this when I was in college. I attended a university with a radio station that had student choice programs with an amazing variety of music. ("The Rap Wrap" was all new to me; "The Camel Tour" featuring music from everywhere in the world where there are camels - middle east, sure, but including Australia & featuring aboriginal instruments; "My Back Porch" with folk & country. There was an amazing & wonderful variety. My studies involved design & drawing & I spent hours at my drafting board listening while I worked.
Then I did an internship & another woman in the office tried to find a different music radio station every day. Just like the student radio programs, sometimes there was an initial, "Hmmm. Not too sure." But if you listen, you learn. You may never fall in love with whatever music it is but you will come to an appreciation. You will learn. You will broaden your horizons. That is never bad.

Linda Ronstadt was a favorite of my late mother and her sisters back in the seventies so I heard quite a lot of her music when I was a kid. She was huge in the seventies. One could say she was the Taylor Swift of that era, but she mostly interpreted other people's songs rather than write them herself. She began her career as the singer for The Stone Poneys and enjoyed success with "Different Drum" in 1967. She went solo soon thereafter and found success in 1970 with "Long Long Time", a song that has gained new fans in recent months due to its use in a popular television show. She put together a backing band for her second album that went on to become The Eagles. Her cover of the Jackson Browne classic, "Rock Me on the Water", with Glenn Frey on guitar and Don Henley on drums, is brilliant. Definitely check it out. She provided the backing vocals alongside James Taylor on the studio recordings of the Neil Young classics "Heart of Gold" and "Old Man". She covered The Rolling Stones "Tumbling Dice" and even sang it with them a few times on their tours. She topped the charts in 1974 with her cover of Betty Everett's 1963 hit "You're No Good". Her performance of the song on The Midnight Special remains phenomenal to this day. Check it out. And her cover of "Desperado" in 1973 rivals the Eagles original. Her 1977 cover of the Roy Orbison classic "Blue Bayou" was the one my mom played all the time. Her other seventies hits include "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" (Warren Zevon), "When Will I Be Loved" (The Everly Brothers), "It's So Easy" (Buddy Holly). In the eighties she moved her music away from the country-rock-pop styles of the seventies with appearances on Broadway in the Pirates of Penzance. She also dived into the Mexican music she heard growing up in Arizona, releasing Canciones de Mi Padre (Songs of My Father) in 1987. And she joined with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris to record the first of two albums under the name Trio. Check out their performance of the Neil Young classic, "After The Goldrush", broadcast on Late Night with David Letterman in March 1999. They updated the lyrics and added a glass harmonium, a musical instrument invented by Benjamin Franklin in 1761 which mechanized the ringing sounds made by running a finger around the rim of a wine glass in such a way that the glass resonates. The performance was stellar. Neil Young must have been thrilled to see it.

Linda Ronstadt was 100 times a better singer than Taylor Swift. But, in terms of popularity, if that is what you are referring to, you are correct.

A positively powerful voice in modern music history. Pitch perfect in whatever genre she's performing, pop, country, rock, ballads, showtunes, she's done Broadway just to stretch herself as a performer. Fun fact, though she's singing Spanish, she's doesn't speak it though. She had to learn these songs "Canciones de mi Padre" all phonically. Now that's sheer talent ❤

Linda released the album Canciones de Mi Padre (Songs of my Father) in 1987 to honor her Mexican heritage. The album immediately became a global smash hit. At 2½ million US sales, it stands as the biggest selling non-English language album in American record history. Linda is unparalleled, she sampled many music genres and was a smashing success in all of them.

You're the very first reactor to start with one of Linda's Spanish songs, but she can do rock, country, folk, opera, show tunes, and everything else. Try "Blue Bayou" (Official Music Video), which is also live. You'll see one of her best songs belted out in English.

I just looked through about half of your music reactions, and I must say you choose enough well known bands, but the songs you choose (or are recommended to you) are rarely any of the songs most people would put on their best-of list when they think of the band. Was curious, how do you select you songs or who recommends them? (You may have explained it sometime before, but I just found your site.)
BTW: Just listened to you reacting to two of the more popular songs, "Kashmir" and "Time" and thought they were spot on. Great words to describe them both.

The greatest most versatile female vocalist of her generation.
Linda did 2 albums in Spanish, Canciones De Mi Padres and Mas Canciones. She won a Grammy for both albums. She did a Latino album in 1992 called Frenesi. It also won a Grammy. All 3 albums are terrific. She has German and some Mexican-Spanish on her father's side. German, Dutch and English on her mother's side.
