    Still boggles my mind how this race could feature so much action and solid racing, then the 125's and 500 were snoozefests.

    • @james_johnsonII

      They actually run more RPMs today at Daytona and Talladega than they did back then. They turned 7,000- 7,500 RPMs back then. They are north of 8k now a days. It's the exhaust that's changed.

    • @USaustin
      @USaustin 5 лет назад +5

      Big Daddy BBQ also did the same thing to Junie Dunleavy and the 90 team back in 2000, which also cost Mike Harmon his ride with the team. Big Daddy BBQ tried to get into NASCAR but refused to pay sponsorship money which means their stay in the sport was short.

      @@BANGITSME87 yeah, but to be fair, that equipment was not even close to competitive. Yates cars weren't nearly what they once were by 2007. I think Rudd could have had a decent shot at a few more cup wins had he been in Hendrick or Roush equipment. He gave the 21 car a few good runs during his stint with the Wood Bros, but after that teams and sponsors weren't particularly looking to hire a guy his age to wheel their cars

    This race just proves what Ernie Irvan said in his book No Fear was definitely true.
    He said when he was with RYR in the #28 that Dale Jarret was the worst teammates ever and that DJ was always about himself and not wanting to help his teammates.
    He and Ricky could of had an 1-2 finish but he chose to hang his teammate out to dry as he always did with Ernie.

    I really never understood this race,what was the point.Wreck a race car to get into the shoot out wonder if was worth it to the teams that wrecked a race car before a lap was completed.

      The whole point of this race SPEED WEEK was to put butts into the seats, and money into the coffers.

    • @yojoeski
      @yojoeski 4 года назад +1

      Most teams brought at least 3 cars if not 4 to Daytona at that time. Also have to consider if Jimmy Spencer isn't in that pack, there probably isn't a wreck. Excluding Ernie Irvan, if there was a more reckless and dangerous driver in the 80's-90's, than Spencer, then I'm not aware of it. Untalented driver who legitimately believed in his tiny little mind that he was better than Earnhardt.

    • @GreatDarkWing0491
      @GreatDarkWing0491 Год назад +3

      The point was there were cars on the race track racing each other for fun and entertainment. Why would you ever want LESS racing? This weird "what was the point" mindset is the entire reason the sport is a pale imitation of what it used to be.

      This was before they changed the rules to include past race winners and champions in the race. I believe this was the last year where the requirements stated you had to have earned a pole position the previous season to participate in the race.
