I was wondering too. I work from home and because of my auto immune have no life so it is my life. But all the food posts are all ready bothering me and I haven’t had it. Was also wondering about you tube. But I also dint want to tell

My surgery is tomorrow. My husband, Adult kids, my mother and siblings know about it. And one close cousin- They are my cheerleaders 📣 😊 I told my husband side of the family Im having surgery to fix my acid reflux issues. I want to be clear of any negative opinions 💁🏻♀️

Will your insurance not pay for it?
@@caramelkisses8396 some insurance will cover it but some won't it all depends likely this isn't considered a cosmetic surgery so most of the insurances do cover it

I’m just scared to die honestly I’m going to El Salvador and get it done in February but it’s a doctor with experience and certification and told me it’s not that much risk but I know I need this !!!

I definitely want to get this done and currently in the process. my doctor recommended me to a nutritionist and overall, the entire process will take me 6 months so May 2021. I’m seeing a nutritionist to get my eating under control. Wish me luck! 😁 🙏🏻
I'm at the exact point that you are @yup,Lynn. I have gotten my first set of approvals and am in the process of doing the nutritional appointments (12 appts in 6 mo). I need to get it finished by mid May so I can then have my surgeon consult. Amazing how many hoops they make us jump through 😁😅😅
Thank you for another great video Erin..... I'm at the start really of my journey and I'm slowly building a group if people around me my surgery is in 6 weeks so at the moment I'm at the preparation stage .....Lol I'm preparing for the pre-OP diet which i start on the 26th January

I contemplated if I wanted to let others know but I ended up doing just that. My neighbor, mom, sisters, and ex-bf knows. I'm told I don't need it, just to eat healthier foods and exercise. I've been there and done that and other things as well. I'll be 27 next Tuesday and basically my whole life I have been overweight/obese. My health is not the best and I'm concerned. People swear getting wls is the lazy way. They truly don't understand. another reason I contemplated because whenever I tell someone my plans something happens where it goes wrong.

Thank you for this! I’m having RNY on 9/29 and my family is super judgy. I’ve told my husband (obviously) and my in-laws, but I’ve been feeling guilty about not telling my own parents. This was helpful.
my surgery is next week and I havent told my parents. my adult children know, my sister and spouse of course. I dont want the negative energy.

my surgery went well. 6 weeks this week. my mom was upset and her being in her feelings made my week 1 not great, mow she is all on board. weird after her comments about not understanding why someone would do it in May. I need people in my corner with me and I knew she wasnt when my sister had the surgery.
Yea...I told my adult children ( I'm 57) and my aunt and cousin...Big mistake.
They are all like ..your gonna die!
I just got on disability the doctor says 2-5 years to live if I'm lucky because of my weight and health issues that it brings. I'd rather get the surgery and live a longer life, so I've decided not to tell them that I'm going through with it
I got my gastic sleeve in Cali colombia. told my sisters but no tmy parents because I did not want to hear their mouth. total success down from my maximum of 403 to 270 as of today. i Had the surgery on June 29th and lost a crazy 70 pounds the first month. It is slower loss now. Excercise is keys and I was also prescribed a diabetic med that helps with the weight loss.
Nice content! I'm also considering taking sleeve surgery. Would you like to share your experience? Is there any side effect? Like.. I train my muscle regularly and need huge amount of protein. Does this surgery cause protein deficiency? That's my biggest concern. Besides, if I stuff myself like I did for the past 20 years, will my stomach break or does it expand to where it used to be?
A few years ago I randomly mentioned surgery to who I thought was my best friend. Her response took me back. I wasn't seriously thinking about surgery at the time. Fast forward a few years, I decided on the surgery. I only took my husband, son, and parents. I didn't want anyone's negativity adding to my anxiety about having surgery. I don't know how I will handle it once we go back to work but working from home all this time may help since no-one has really seen me in almost 2 years.
That's totally fair. You have to do what's best for you and I don't blame you for wanting to keep this private.
I have my consultation coming up next month. I know this is exactly what I want to do, however it's scary. These videos definitely help though.

Well I guess I'm the opposite. I told all my friends coworkers and family. With my diabetes being so bad my back being side so bad and having sleep apnea I didn't find one person that wasn't supportive. Plus it's very helpful to have support system like that. Yes some people think it's drastic but if you explain to them about your health and how bad you feel. Not one person was unsupportive. I'm a month and a half post-op and feel already so much better just getting my diabetes under control 45 lb off my back even feels better. Good luck everybody
I told my immediate family and my friends. Haven’t told the extended family cause I wanna surprise them at a future family event lol. None of my coworkers know but I’m sure they will wonder since I’ll be off for 3 weeks this July for the surgery.
what about your local doctor, how did they treat you after you had the surgery without consulting them? I am not telling my doctor as they would not recommend it for me, did you have to start over with a different dr for the follow up labs and nutrition counseling?

Would it be possible to get this done with out someone coming with you? Friends and family are totally against it so I dont really have anyone that would genuinely support it if they went with me.
Yes I definitely think you can do it without anyone being there! I mean, obviously it is ideal to have someone there, even one person to be by your side in hospital and to help you while you recover at home. But- as I said, it's ideal- not required! The only issue I can think of is the hospital may not want you to drive to/from the hospital before/after surgery, especially when getting released from hospital in pain and probably woozy on pain meds they wouldn't allow you to drive, but you can always do taxi/uber/lyft/etc, many people arrange transportation like that. Other than the driving I can't see why any hospital would care if you are doing it alone. If you think they'll care you can always say your spouse is deployed or a trucker and away at work and your parents are on vacation, idk, just some ideas! But don't let being alone stop you!! Plus there are soooo many support groups online, maybe you'll find a good friend thru the groups and have a friend to go through the journey with (that's what I'm hoping for!) good luck!!
I can't figure out how to edit my comment but I just wanted to add that you could also just be honest and tell them that your family doesn't support weight loss surgery and that's why you are alone. I'm sure they've had other patients in that situation before. And they then can tell you what you'll need to do (like set up transportation, etc) not to mention- with Covid going on some patients aren't even allowed visitors even if they wanted!!

For me, my Dr and the coordinator with my insurance company spoke to me regarding support. Told me how important having at least one supportive person around you is. I would agree that it's your body and your decision, but maybe there is someone who would understand your feelings and be able to help you out...if not in person, maybe online?

Btw, my comment previous comment was not towards you. I thought you had great advice. I am just exploring this and coming across so many people who are lying/planning to lie about it, and I just think it is a big mistake. I know quite a few people who try to say they have done it through diet and exercise ALONE, but people speculate that they had weight loss surgery. Since I'm very vocal about contemplating it, I'm getting people admitting it to me--people whom I had suspected had had it done. There are also people you would not consider overweight let alone obese who have gone to other countries and found doctors who performed this on them, so that they could become super thin. Actually, I could see why these sorts would keep it a secret, since something like that is just sick. Using this sort of thing for 30lb weight loss is just dangerous.
I think that’s a matter of opinion. I’ve seen a lot of people who simply don’t have to explain their bodies to anyone. It’s not lying it’s no one else’s business. Our bodies aren’t up for discussion or explanation. And I’ve seen many people do this for diabetes control for 30-50 lbs and change their health. It’s not just about weight. It’s about health for some.

There is definitely a difference between a flat out LIE and just not sharing personal information. If someone asked me flat out if I had surgery and I didn't feel comfortable answering, I would change the subject or tell them that I didn't want to talk about it. But this is just me. You do whatever you want

Everyone knows when you've had this surgery. No one who has been morbidly obese trying every diet and exercise in the book for decades, then SUDDENLY gets it right and loses 100+lbs BAM almost overnight. Only a clueless person is fooled, but most of us are not. If/when I ever go through this, I'm going to be up front about it. What I don't get is people who *think* they are kidding everyone---people will talk. It's better they talk about your success vs a big lie you're going to have to live the rest of your life. SMDH.

Playing devils advocate, if you title a video pros and cons of not telling people you had the surgery you should definitely list a set of pros in a set of cons. I was really seeking knowledge from this video and I think it was void of that. Especially due to the fact that there isn’t a set of pros and cons listed in pertaining to the title.
I'm sorry you were disappointed. I'm doing the best I can in sharing my journey and what I've learned. I hope you can find some of my other videos more helpful. I really do have a heart to serve and want people to feel that through my content. Thank you for your helpful criticism and I'm going to work harder on more content and consider your advice. :)
I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY LIE ?
Why is it their business? Why do they feel entitled to know someone else’s personal business?
