    You are just too, too cute! I like the fact that you made the poodles small enough where we actually have to look at it to figure out real quick what it is. I think the fact that they are small enough keeps it from looking

    TIP ABOUT TRIPS: When husband goes on a trip, it’s a great time to catch up on sewing! Just make simple meals for the kids, leave the housework to pile up, and get your sewing done! I used to buy hotdogs for just such occasions when my girls were small. They loved the treat of eating hotdogs on paper plates for dinner and I enjoyed the extra time I had to finish projects!

    So tasteful. I share your opinion. I started off a fan of circle skirts but they take up lots of fabric, a lot of space when in the closet and you take up lots of space in the car and so forth. They were fun for twirling but not so fun for everyday activities. The 1940s skirt shapes and pleated 1950s skirts became my preferred ones.

      Yes to this!! My novelty skirts take up so much space and they are super heavy 😂

    As the owner of two crazy and lover of all things poodle, this dress sings out to my heart!! 🖤🖤 It looks so feminine and very classy.
    I've been dressing /living a vintage lifestyle for over 10yrs.
    I can completely relate to your feelings about full circle skirts. I started off loving them. But, as time has passed I find them a bit overwhelming. Not only in the amount of fabric they require, but, also, in wearing, especially in daily household activities. I like the gathered skirts, on myself, as far as the silhouette.

    I LOVE this take on the poodle skirt! This doesn’t look costume-y at all… you could wear that anywhere and be stylish and fun.
    I would never make or wear a circle skirt absent a specific reason, like a costume party or something.

    Great choices with the poodle placement and size. It treads the line between classy and fun. I love all the skirts, but when I sew for myself I tend to go with A-lines; I always feel like wider skirts require high heels and I don't wear heels often.

  • @helloworld5182

    Absolutely adorable! The two poodles were perfect. It’s a toss up between shirtwaist or circle. The shirtwaist can accent tummies with a muffin top so I might steer away from those for myself. I also liked the polka dot outfit you had on at the beginning. It wasn’t clear what it was but I’m partial to anything polka dot. The dots just seem happy and cheerful.

    I’m not big on pink and red together normally , but your dress is gorgeous! The poodle accents are so cute! I love the skirt on it. I tend to go for a-lines because the style is more forgiving for my wide hips. Mixed feelings on circle skirts. I used to adore them, but there’s so much material!

      I am a fan of A-lines, including A-line dresses as well as skirts. I am short and short-waisted, plus I am a bit overweight-A-lines are flattering.

  • @zeldakasumi
    @zeldakasumi 6 месяцев назад

    About skirt style preference: When it comes to both clothing and make up styles, I have always approached it as fashion is there to flatter you. Other than practicality and ease of wearing, my choices about color and cut are all about what do I want to emphasize/draw attention to or what do I want to de-emphasize? I think a gathered skirt looks lovely on you, SewRena. It works beautifully with your proportions and drapes so nicely on you. As for me, I like gathered and pleated skirts well enough on me, but A-lines and circle skirts, and drop waist dresses and skirts work really well with my particular hip structure and height (I'm on the tall side and have a bubble butt, hip dips, and prominent anterior superior illiac spine bones.) Of all the 1950's styles that I adore the most for myself, it's the drop waist ones. I do not naturally have much of a waist to emphasize, so styles that elongate the torso to emphasize my hip structure instead of hiding it, make me feel pretty. Pencil skirts are also very nice, but they do restrict my movement more, so I'm more mindful of how I move when I wear them. I would say, that I'm probably more drawn to a half-circle skirt than a full circle skirt.

    The ensemble is perfect. Well done. My Mum kept the poodle skirt she was wearing when she met my Dad at a highschool dance. I remember being confused as to why it didn't look like the ones in the costume shops.
    You are not alone with the grey taking the energy out of life. Seems to be the experience right now. Ms. Drew is absolutely right on that front. I need to megadose on some Vitamin D...
    You ease your sleeve head under the machine... I am in awe. Sleeves, like zippers are something I'm still doing by hand.
    I taught myself how to sew during the first lockdown. I had stumbled in Ms. Banner about a month or two before and had zero budget for patterns, not that I even knew how to buy one... I self-drafted a circle skirt as my first project. Followed by a pencil skirt, followed by a kind of wonky boddice (that about slayed me at 11 mock-ups). I still like floof, but right now I'm drawn to a more fitted silhouette. Maybe because of the challenge?
    - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

    • @SewRena
      @SewRena  7 месяцев назад +1

      Oh my I could never ease a sleeve by hand so I’m impressed I do prefer a hand sewn zipper it looks so nice.

      @stevezytveld6585 7 месяцев назад

      @@SewRena I'm still getting used to my Featherweight. Thing is like trying to ride a racehorse - take it slow and no sudden movements. lol. It's going to be a while before I try doing a sleeve on her.
      I have a whole bunch of feet to work through to see if I like doing the job by hand or by machine. So far I'm in love with the buttonholer. But, yeah, handsewn results...

    That is so cute. I think that we all find silhouettes that we like better even though we may get attracted to a particular style at first like that poodle skirt is adorable and it looks very 50s but there’s a lot of cute skirts from the 50s and I like how you incorporated the poodle motif into the one that you made. I have a person that used to just love all the ruffles and all the fur of us and I have learned that on me personally, it’s too much and that the big poofy sleeves are too much. I am learning to modify looks that I really like to actually suit me which I imagine that women have been doing since fashion was a thing at all. It turns out I’m much more attracted to a Jo March look , than I am Scarlett O’Hara. similar silhouette, but one is definitely more down to earth and simple than the other one, and that appeals to me.

    Gathered skirt for me, since the beginning. I can essentially get a similar effect with a gathered skirt than a circle skirt with 1 to 2 yards less. On top of that, I'm a lazy sewer, and since I don't like to add pockets to my garments, I can just use a continuous cut of my fabric to draft my gathered skirt lol. My first beginner project was a circle skirt and I hated the entire process of making it, it was Gertie's circle skirt tutorial, and you know that girl loves the drama, so the skirt was full as hell lmao. Hemming that sweep was a nightmare and felt like it took a million years. 🤣I vowed to myself never again.

    I just finished watching your video and I loved it😄. This is an interesting way to have a poodle on your dress. I'm so used to seeing animal prints or sew-ins (?) I guess they're called (?) (I'm not good with clothing terminology that much. So forgive my wording choices😂😅), with crisp and clean lines and such. Not in a frilly, but cute look😄 such as this😧.
    Also, even though I don't wear vintage (if I do, I haven't noticed😂). I don't think I've worn a circle skirt before. But I've worn flowy, gathered skirts and it's nice to wear. Up until I grew a bit taller (5' 3" or 5' 4"), being a bit lengthy😂. But I think, maybe if I get another type of flowy styled skirt. I'll be all good😊.
    However, as a side note, I like flowy gathered dresses more (kind of like how yours is😄). They look nice and adorable on me. So I prefer those more😄😊💖.

    I love circle skirt in a kids outfit. Not a Me style at this point in my life

      I even prefer a gathered on kids because of the extra fluff at the waist.

      @@SewRena I have yet to see anything you've done that I've not been super impressed by or hadn't out right loved !
      I wish I could share pictures with you here. I did circle skirts for my 2 daughter's. For the oldests, 50's theam, 8th Birthday. Completely with matching short sleeve bolero. If only I could have found saddle shoes to tie it all together.

    ❤❤❤ Love the dress, how much did the material that you used cost for this outfit?

    Very wise decisions. Your dress definitely does not look costumey. I'm not a sewist, but I do have very definite opinions on what styles look best on me. I have a pear body shape, so I have quite lumpy, bulgy hips and thighs. For that reason, I avoid waistline pleats and gathers like the plague! They just make me look even bulgier than I am. So my preference is for an A-line skirt without pleats or gathers, paired with a form-fitting top to emphasize my relatively small waist. I find that it is much better for me to dress according to my body shape rather than to fashion trends.

    I'm all hips and booty so gathered skirts just create far too much bulk for me. A pleat or two is fine, but a full gather just isn't flattering, so I stick with circle and a-line styles. That said, I don't tend to go with full circles because I'm also short and full circles look like they're eating me 😂 3/4 are best for my body type, I think. Unpopular opinion but I also think pencil skirts look great on me despite being told to avoid them

      That’s understandable. We have to also do what works. Also after the butt and hips you described I’m positive the pencil skirt looks AMAZING 🔥🔥. Only a hater wants you to avoid them

    New subscriber! You are so beautiful and talented! How did you learn to make clothes? I debated for quite some time about purchasing a sewing machine, but I don’t have anybody to teach me, and I’m not sure if relying just on online tutorials is reasonable. Do you have any suggestions?
