Lol. I was that Mom. For ethnic heritage day, I made a Dirndl for my daughter, and Lederhosen for my son. Animal costumes were pretty intricate. Then I'd see kids at school in a bathrobe carrying a flag from their country....oh well. I was pleased with my work!

A few years ago I decided to completely overhaul my wardrobe and separated it into 4 seasonal capsules each with their own color way etc. I’ve started working on my fall capsule, but might have bitten off more than I can chew and planned 12 projects 😅. I’ve completed 3 so far, but still have a bit to go. Great video! Love a good tab detail ❤

Lovely skirts! I think my favourite is the second one - the tabs are so cute on your slim waist. Women must have had very small waists in the 1950s. 23” is tiny 😂
You reminded me that I bought some pale pink and some lemon broderie anglaise during the very hot summer of 2020. I was too ill with COVID to make the summer nightdresses, and then suddenly summer was over. I made the pink nightie last year but the lemon is still waiting. Oops, I feel ashamed! But not so much that I made the lemon one - there’s always next summer 😂
I’ve made some summer house-dresses this year which are nice.
Thanks for all your hard work - even though I sew most days, I still love watching you work. And I love the 1950s vibe chiffon scarf in this video - it’s so cool.

Oh, my heavens, no. It has just been one thing after another. The most important thing I needed to get done this summer was to cut an Assassin's Creed jacket for my son. I got the hood and the sleeves cut out and then I broke my foot. And one month into the healing process, they let me know it's going to be at least four more weeks, not just two.
I, too, have an allergy to wool, and all such fibers. I was horrified to learn this when I had found a GORGEOUS white, fluffy, soft cashmere cardigan (like the one on Seinfeld with the red spot). I bought it, brought it home, put it on -- and couldn't take it off fast enough. Wool, vacuna, alpaca, mohair, angora --- argh! The one that makes me the saddest, even sadder than the gorgeous cashmere sweater, was a cute little vintage sweater from the 1950s. It was brown and soft, and thin, absolutely perfect for that transition into Fall to except that there wasn't a suit of armor thick enough to protect me from that itch. I tried to keep it, but even starting my day with Benadryl, I couldn't handle that itch longer than an hour. That's how I know about being allergic to vacuna.

Oh wow. LOVE those tweeds/wools. SO gorgeous. I have so many patterns....going to have to pull one out and sew!!
Unfortinately, i dont have a lot of vintage skirt patterns, most of the ones i have are modern, but the style for skirts hasnt changed a lot so I'm sure I'll find something...
And I was interested to hear that your have a sensitivity to wool. I can't wear it. Unless its lined, like a jacket or skirt. I go bright red and start scratching. All my kids have the same reaction. Its so bad that I'm knitting a wool sweater for one of my granddaughters and i have to keep stopping!! Its rough because i LOVE wool and wool tweeds....
Oh one more thing: after one terrible incident where i completely list track of the wrong side and the right side of a javket project for my son, i learned to apply bits of masking tape to label the wrong sides of fabric for pattetn pieces. Faster and less damaging.

Love these fabrics! Great finds! I’m surprised at how you sew darts, though. I was taught to ONLY backstitch at the wide end, then to sew to the very tip, leaving 5-6” of thread to tie a square knot there. It seems to lay flatter this way? Anyone?

    • @SewRena
      @SewRena  Год назад

This is the way I prefer to do it. I’m not someone who likes to mend and I don’t trust knots. It personally doesn’t make enough of a difference to me to tie them instead. Im a huge fan of doing things that you prefer as opposed to what’s considered “the right way”. I do think the popular thing is to tie them.

I am also sensitive to wool so I have to wear under skirts for my wool skirts or if it’s a wool sweat I have to have a long sleeve cotton shirt underneath with the collar turned up if it’s a turtle necked sweater. I love wool for keeping warm but my skin rashes so quickly from direct contact.
As for projects I didn’t get anything I planed in spring done this summer but did two pop up small projects.. way too chaotic to do much this year sadly

I'm trying to find the motivation to finish my last winter project (a jacket ) so I can start on my spring and summer projects but I'm not even sure if I will get a chance to wear it as it's been a really mild winter here (australia) which is nice except I'm so worried about frosts because all fruit trees are flowering earlier than usual 😅

I’d be worried about the fruit trees too. 🤞🏾 I hope they are ok. Confessions I have a 2 year old unfinished winter coat project🥲.

I loved the two 1 yard pieces you found. Where did you find them? A vintage store? An estate sale? Great finds!

OK, I'm far from being over weight and have a 241/2" waist. These woman from the are insanely thin . How did they manage it? Was it the girdles? ❤ Absolutely love your videos ❤❤❤

Yesterday I finally got done with three days of seam ripping a skirt from the Vogue 1671 that was one of the worst pattern directions I had ever seen I'm going to iron a fabric and reuse it

Beautiful fabrics and it was nice to see the back of the pattern envelopes. Do you have a the Patreon Barbie mock neck in your videos?

I have never made the pattern on video since gertie already has one for her patron, and I try to be respectful of her content. Its so simple that that my video would be a repeat of hers.

Love the skirts! I’ve never heard of skirt length pre-cuts. Where did you find them?

Beautiful skirt. Too bad it didn’t have a little jacket. But I love it! I don’t guess the comment about it raining and putting a damper on your projects was supposed to be a pun. Get it? Raining/DAMPer??
