8:15 i was under the impression it scaled off of the base multiplier of the vehicle, so a vehicle with a 4x base aka 400% would go up to 800%, and the reason they specified that is because it wont multiply ontop of premium account, so instead of a 4x bonus (basex2x2) its a 3x bonus (base+1+1)

Here's the thing on tactics and play styles, it'd probably be hard to try this out from EU, but being in Australia I have a choice of playing SA with 170ms ping or NA with 270ms ping and the way both regions play at all tiers is noticably different. At top tier on SA you tend to see more players (usually 4 or 5, no not just Phoenix slinging F-14s) trying to race above the other team's radars, climbing nearly vertical straight off the runway. The bulk of the team will stay below 1500m and move ahead of you as you climb. So any opposing TWS will tend to pick up the bulk of the team below and tilt downwards so you're almost guaranteed to be above where their Radar is looking. And if they do cycle to point it up, it's not that hard to manouvre out of track before they launch at you. You'll even see people up top working together to mask each other's radar signatures as they close. And you often get two merges, one at altitude and the furball on the deck. Smart players on both sides with medium range missles will pick an altitude between and pick off kills either above or below. And if one team doesn't have players at altitude, they will lose to F-16s and Mirages screaming down behind them from 10,000m. The end result is battles with a lot more verticality. While NA runs to the conservative and fast fought "everyone heads left, stays low and both teams circle around the middle". Although on the Sons of Attila Rocky Pillars map I've only ever seen the north team take the western canyon run to flank the south team, never seen SA players do that. And lower tiers are the opposite, in SA if you try to side climb or climb to altitude, the battle will be over before you get there as both teams just tend to stay around 2,000m and plow straight into each other. I also don't know if any of this difference can be attributed to time of day, because both regions do tend to play differently at different times of day. But it just shows that there is at least some space for emergent gameplay, experimentation and new tactics, even at top tier and there's definitely not one "right" way to play. Although I am by no means good enough to get away with playing SA tactics on NA (i.e. soloing from 10,000m) or carry an SA team where everyone went low and left NA style.
3:09 i got to be honest, that depends on the pilot and their game style, personally i got more kills with radar missiles than with IR missiles, but thats because my game style. Climbing at high alt and scaning to see who is the most kileable guy. Doing somes weird maneuvers for counterest the notch of the enemy and getting 30km kills with those R-27ER in almost every single match
@defyn, the multiplier thing seems to have affected the total gain. I am getting 260 rp per kill now, compared to 760 5 months ago (in f5e, no premium, no boosters), and I’ve found that the booster is multiplicative, and adds x% to the end of battle results. If you manage to get the third tier, then you get the same RP as before changes, or at least that is how I interpreted it in this first patch-day.
Yes, it is not really 633%+100% but more like 2.11*(100%+x%(depend on talisman, premium, booster+100%), that 100% is aft multiplier so it still gain the advantage of the RP multiplier. Take 4 kills and no activated booster for example, If you have no premium no talisman, your income doubled. Premium or talisman activated thats 50% more than yesterday. Both premium and talisman gives you 33% than usual.

I agree with the state of top tier atm, it's just not fun for everyone for the most part. Matches end too quickly, it's boring and because of the rewards being calculated with how long the match goes on and your activity the rewards are incredibly horse shit (especially for F2Ps). It's just a lose-lose for everyone other than Gaijin themselves (most likely) since the frustration from some players will make them just buy their way to all of the modifications. Besides, they should seriously reduce the player count because 16v16 is just an incredibly awful addition.
The problem isn't really Gaijin itself on this particular matter. Matches are very quick, but this means you can get more of them! The problem, I would say, it's players. A lot of them simply want to play a more arcadish version of the game and they often complain about maps like Vietnam, whilst they praise ones like City. At this point I can tell you I have essentially abandoned realistic and went entirely for sim!
Top tier is just so overwhelming to play. the RWR changes are great but you always get like 5-6 launch notifications from everywhere around you, friendly or enemy, and with all the people around it's just an unfun clusterfuck. Like this is just too much, idk
We need an enduring confrontation game mode for air realistic battles. Use the biggest maps and allow people to spawn as much as they want. That would give the less skilled players more of a chance to learn.
Even sim at top tier is barely playable, atleast when you're in the german/ussr team because we are alway outnumbered and have worse plane, the US team have better plane more players. The only advantage of USSR/Germany team is that they have good SARH missile but we're never able to use them because people hug the ground (btw not sure that SARH missile are that easy to dodge, atleast in DCS they are not @@aramismanzie462
That missle lock, and kill at 1:36 makes me sick to my stomach. That other person even flared on time, and had no chance whatsoever. If you can lock planes without even having them infront of the aircraft's sesnsors, and missles will draw 90 degree angles in the sky, whats the point in even trying to fly well?
I’m patiently waiting for the JAS to drop. Also, Defyn do you think having no enemy names visible (like planes in ground RB) would help “fix” top tier? I feel that with radar, it makes more sense to have names off. Makes things more tactical.
I feel this is the solution and gaijin could add datalink to mark other vehicles for the team, or a voice command keybind for marking locations of targets from your radar.
This might work if matches were smaller like 6v6, but right now this would only make the attention issues at top tier worse. It would also make foggy and cloudy maps complete cancer to find enemies in. It would also be weird to implement it only at top tier, because I can’t imagine this being fun in planes like the f4EJ.

Regarding the cockpit voice being English, because I have heard multiple people complaining about this, the MiG-29Gs are the ones that Germany got from the GDR after reunification and upgraded to NATO standard, which includes the English voice assistant, so that is in fact correct.
The trick is to avoid the furball and lurk for the first few minutes. Also he probably avoids showing the matches where the enemy team ha a coordinated squadron full of sweats who mop the floor before your team has taken off

i thought the same thing. I can't think of a way where the missile would make the shot. Since it was released at over mach 1 and had to do such a sharp turn, where it would miss the plane and somehow catch up to it again after going after it XD
Tried to grind for it, failed. Tried again, failed again. Gave up on grinding. Opened fusion360 and drew a low poly su27, sliced it into segments and built it out of foamboard. Filled it with electronics and it flew after few tweaks. Don't grind for it, just build it. It feels godly to fly it irl.

Hey, if you think top tier is bad. Fly out the F-4E (no j, no kai, no pulse doppler, and aim-9js that don't want to hit anyone more than 1km away). Course I guess I get lucky sometimes and get to be top tier. But definitely get drug up more than down right now.
The F4EJ is quite literally just the F4E but shittier. No E-2s, no agile eagle, just pain. It’s also the only plane at it’s rank to grind the kai and f-16. BR compression at its finest.
Aim 9js have 1.8km of range and even higher for aircraft under mach 0.8-9, the flare resistance of this missile is pretty good especially at very close ranges, also the f4e still has sparrow ( not the best I know but still good)
Gayjin should really get rid of that mixed mirror mm from air RB and bring back allied x axis matchmaker to props as well as sticking to cold war MM on top tier.
Top tier War thunder feels like a different game to the earlier parts of the game. And I have to be honest, I LOVE it. Getting 4x kills as you sling off missiles in less than 20seconds is such a wild feeling, and it doesn't really 'feel' like earlier War Thunder at all. I love it.
It's not that radar missiles are bad. It's that they're so good that the only reliable and consistent counter to them is hugging the deck. If a chaffed notch broke a lock quicker they wouldn't be as good. The MAR for some of these radar missiles is too big as well.
My average top tier match is like 5-6 minutes long and involves no tactics it's just whoever lands more missiles in the opening salvo wins. I've been playing low tier jets and even props lately.
Oh yeah I'm sure you will get asked if you haven't already, but Gaijin in their Dev Q&A said that the British Phantoms wouldn't be getting 9Ls because they overperform already and they'd need to go up in rank. What's your thoughts?

Air RB is just too small for how many players it tries to cram into the match. We really need either way larger maps, or a new game mode for RB top tier, like EC or something.
I’d say way larger and at the same time at least twice less players in each match, but that won’t happen because of 99% of players that don’t know how to reverse players, pros and cons of the plane they’re flying in, don’t know how to use radar in manual etc etc and want to play just “fly-straight-to-the-midmap-furball-click-one-button-a-couple-times-and-then-die” game so they really think that City/Spain(small one) map is the best for 16v16 top tier matches
y'know one way that could fix top tier is implementing proper EC, instead of locking the gamemode behind sim. respawns, multiple airfields on larger maps, 3 hour long matches, leave when you like, more things to do during the match. the fact that we don't have it while top tier RB continues to devolve is just annoying
The Eurofighter but with that comes Germany's and Italy's. and by that time there will be fox 3-s like the aim-120 and r-77 so the Eurofighter will be like every other plane but with a delta wing. Best advice grind another tech tree because honestly britain is the worst tech tree in the whole game. Plus its gonna be at least 1.5-2 years before the proper Eurofighter comes.

I wonder if anyone else has felt like guns are overall pretty mediocre right now. It could just by horrid, HORRID luck on my part, but I've been farming fairly harmless "crits" like corn at least on J29F's akans and hispanos on british jets, and I've also survived WAY more hits from harriers and Mig-17s than I have any right to. Also kinda irritated that City lost its airspawn. Was a treat when flying early jets, maybe that's just me.

This is one of the many reasons I stopped playing warthunder. 14 year olds screaming for "CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT!!!!!" in a "free" to play game is just going to end up with more and more balance issues every patch. Now we have ground battles that play like call of duty and air battles which is just arcade style ace combat pvp. Super fun. Checking in on videos like this just makes me happy I got out when I did
We need 3 things to make top tier fun In order of what’s least important to most 3. Bigger maps We need bigger maps on rotation more often 2. We need BR decompression, so top tier can fight top tier, and people below don’t get dragged into it 1. Multiple spawns in Air RB First spawn is close, the others are on the other side of the map, so there is no air spawn camping like in air arcade It will give way to making radar missiles actually useful And will lengthen the games without an artificial cap
Radar missiles aren’t useful because everyone stays on the deck. Bigger maps don’t change the fact that there’s simply no reward for climbing besides making yourself an easier target for Phoenixes and R27ERs. All the bigger maps really change is how long it takes to get to the fight, then it’s the same furball and one-sided stomp by one team or the other. Multiple spawns might help alleviate this, but it doesn’t change the fundamental issue of the air rb ec maps not playing like ec at all. The easiest positive changes Gaijin could make are reducing match sizes to what they were before and removing Phoenixes from the game.
It is a shame man.. the russian migs are just ridiculously difficult to make it work.. russian mains are offered two choices now.. take a still bad but bearable flight model with r60ms which are think every flare is the sun or take the SMT which is a boat.. they could give the r73s to the mig 29 (9-13) but they wont.. its rough

I’ve never really looked at top tier air RB, and wtf. It looks like a cartoon brawl where you just see a cloud of dust with occasional limbs poking out. No tactics, no picking engagements, just clotheslining whatever passes through your missile’s seeker cone at Mach 2.

I think decreasing the match size to 8 players per team would probably help substantially.

Top tier Air RB is horrible. The 16 vs 16 sucks really bad and auto-ticket bleed is aweful at the lower tiers.

Regarding the cockpit voice being English, because I have heard multiple people complaining about this, the MiG-29Gs are the ones that Germany got from the GDR after reunification and upgraded to NATO standard, which includes the English voice assistant, so that is in fact correct.
Why do your Top Tier matches always look SO different than every single one of mine? Like the Players in yours do completely different things
The trick is to avoid the furball and lurk for the first few minutes. Also he probably avoids showing the matches where the enemy team ha a coordinated squadron full of sweats who mop the floor before your team has taken off
different server/ping matchmaking, not sure if there is MMR in war thunder but that could also be it as well.
These players are all unpaid actors (Defyn is an advocate of forced labour)

Tried to grind for it, failed. Tried again, failed again. Gave up on grinding.
Opened fusion360 and drew a low poly su27, sliced it into segments and built it out of foamboard. Filled it with electronics and it flew after few tweaks.
Don't grind for it, just build it. It feels godly to fly it irl.

Hey, if you think top tier is bad. Fly out the F-4E (no j, no kai, no pulse doppler, and aim-9js that don't want to hit anyone more than 1km away). Course I guess I get lucky sometimes and get to be top tier. But definitely get drug up more than down right now.
The F4EJ is quite literally just the F4E but shittier. No E-2s, no agile eagle, just pain. It’s also the only plane at it’s rank to grind the kai and f-16. BR compression at its finest.
Aim 9js have 1.8km of range and even higher for aircraft under mach 0.8-9, the flare resistance of this missile is pretty good especially at very close ranges, also the f4e still has sparrow ( not the best I know but still good)
Still pissed they buffed it's boresight gimbal and took away the radar slaving for it

Top tier War thunder feels like a different game to the earlier parts of the game. And I have to be honest, I LOVE it. Getting 4x kills as you sling off missiles in less than 20seconds is such a wild feeling, and it doesn't really 'feel' like earlier War Thunder at all. I love it.
When r73 came to live server on SMT I got a 6km heading shot with it.

It's not that radar missiles are bad. It's that they're so good that the only reliable and consistent counter to them is hugging the deck. If a chaffed notch broke a lock quicker they wouldn't be as good. The MAR for some of these radar missiles is too big as well.

It has like 182 kN of thrust in after burner which is fairly strong for the fm

My average top tier match is like 5-6 minutes long and involves no tactics it's just whoever lands more missiles in the opening salvo wins. I've been playing low tier jets and even props lately.

Air RB is just too small for how many players it tries to cram into the match. We really need either way larger maps, or a new game mode for RB top tier, like EC or something.
I’d say way larger and at the same time at least twice less players in each match, but that won’t happen because of 99% of players that don’t know how to reverse players, pros and cons of the plane they’re flying in, don’t know how to use radar in manual etc etc and want to play just “fly-straight-to-the-midmap-furball-click-one-button-a-couple-times-and-then-die” game so they really think that City/Spain(small one) map is the best for 16v16 top tier matches

y'know one way that could fix top tier is implementing proper EC, instead of locking the gamemode behind sim. respawns, multiple airfields on larger maps, 3 hour long matches, leave when you like, more things to do during the match. the fact that we don't have it while top tier RB continues to devolve is just annoying

The Eurofighter but with that comes Germany's and Italy's. and by that time there will be fox 3-s like the aim-120 and r-77 so the Eurofighter will be like every other plane but with a delta wing. Best advice grind another tech tree because honestly britain is the worst tech tree in the whole game. Plus its gonna be at least 1.5-2 years before the proper Eurofighter comes.

I wonder if anyone else has felt like guns are overall pretty mediocre right now. It could just by horrid, HORRID luck on my part, but I've been farming fairly harmless "crits" like corn at least on J29F's akans and hispanos on british jets, and I've also survived WAY more hits from harriers and Mig-17s than I have any right to.
Also kinda irritated that City lost its airspawn. Was a treat when flying early jets, maybe that's just me.

This is one of the many reasons I stopped playing warthunder. 14 year olds screaming for "CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT!!!!!" in a "free" to play game is just going to end up with more and more balance issues every patch. Now we have ground battles that play like call of duty and air battles which is just arcade style ace combat pvp. Super fun. Checking in on videos like this just makes me happy I got out when I did

We need 3 things to make top tier fun
In order of what’s least important to most
3. Bigger maps
We need bigger maps on rotation more often
2. We need BR decompression, so top tier can fight top tier, and people below don’t get dragged into it
1. Multiple spawns in Air RB
First spawn is close, the others are on the other side of the map, so there is no air spawn camping like in air arcade
It will give way to making radar missiles actually useful
And will lengthen the games without an artificial cap
Radar missiles aren’t useful because everyone stays on the deck. Bigger maps don’t change the fact that there’s simply no reward for climbing besides making yourself an easier target for Phoenixes and R27ERs.
All the bigger maps really change is how long it takes to get to the fight, then it’s the same furball and one-sided stomp by one team or the other. Multiple spawns might help alleviate this, but it doesn’t change the fundamental issue of the air rb ec maps not playing like ec at all.
The easiest positive changes Gaijin could make are reducing match sizes to what they were before and removing Phoenixes from the game.

It is a shame man.. the russian migs are just ridiculously difficult to make it work.. russian mains are offered two choices now.. take a still bad but bearable flight model with r60ms which are think every flare is the sun or take the SMT which is a boat.. they could give the r73s to the mig 29 (9-13) but they wont.. its rough

I’ve never really looked at top tier air RB, and wtf. It looks like a cartoon brawl where you just see a cloud of dust with occasional limbs poking out. No tactics, no picking engagements, just clotheslining whatever passes through your missile’s seeker cone at Mach 2.
