As much as I love this game, I don't understand why Capcom would've wanted to make this when they did. The game came out 3 years after the show ended... like what? 😅😂
Probably didn't know the show was going to end. Given the popularity of the first game a sequel would have been inevitable. Old man complaint time: Duck Tales 2 comes from a time when AAA developers cared enough to not only make a game that was like its cartoon counterpart but iterated on the formula from the first game. That's somewhat rare to see in today's AAA gaming world (not so much in the indie game market).
I found this game in a sale bin at Blockbuster when i was a kid and enjoyed it more than the first game. I still have my copy and it's crazy it's rare.

It had a similar lay out and was mostly the same, but it added in a couple more mechanics and items that made me think the NES version was incomplete. The map pieces were exclusively hidden in the stages, as well as the extra hit points, so you didn't have to buy them. There were also 3 more treasure chest items that made the game even easier. A pair of X-Ray glasses that would show you were hidden items were, a chest that would reveal signs all over the stages to tell you where the exit was, and another chest that would tell you how many other treasure chests were in the level.

I also think this one is an improvement in comparison to the first game in terms of gameplay. Music is still very good but not great as the first. One thing though I didn't see anyone (I think) mention was the fact that the character text is not in accordance to the first game. For example Launchpad calls Scrooge "Mr. Mc D." on the first game as he did in the show and in the second game calls him "Uncle Scrooge" so total miss from Capcom on this part.
I do think the original has more distinct/strong level themes and a better soundtrack, but I appreciate the puzzle solving moments and better final boss of the sequel. Shame the bonus stage is all reused assets, though.
Totally agree on its superiority to the original, though the music in the first is definitely better. The sequel themes are serviceable, but they seem bland even when not comparing. At least the "best" ending is much easier to get.
Cool I’ve never seen anyone review this everyone says it’s not as good as the original but it looks better to me and that last level audio in 1 is overrated imo
Unlike Chip & Dale 2 which is inferior, Ducktales 2 is better than the first game IMO. Nostalgia is the only reason why people consider it a better game. The Bermuda stage is my favorite theme in the game. It has Iron Maiden Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner vibes.
I don't think that DT2 is inferior to the original. This only issue is the release date. Today, it's easy to look back in time and be introduced to these games as you wish, but back in 1993 the Famicom was ancient history and even the Mega Drive was about to enter it's last real relevant year. Even the SFamicom were about to loose a loot of relevance as the fifth gen were about to enter the market. We had a fourth gen that were very well served with Disney games on both main consoles and I dare to say that a good number of those were far superior than DT2. To tell the truth, I don't think that DT1&2 were even the best Disney games on the third gen, as Master System's Castle of Ilusion and Famicom's Chip and Dale (1 and 2) plus Darkwing Duck were considerably better. And, yes, I believe that DT2 could done better on the SNES. Cheers!
everybody always hyping up DuckTales as a great game, i couldn't even beat the Amazon stage, enemies keep respawning Ninja Gaiden style, the goat in the snow level is impossible to jump onto or hit, yet it always hits me. i gave up on it. i have yet to try DuckTales 2 though.
@@BigOleWords No, I was thinking of Halo 2. Ducktales 1 on OG Xbox was a banger tho. Saying any disney nes game is a hidden gem is like saying Little Samson is a hidden gem. Totally agree on its superiority to the original, though the music in the first is definitely better. The sequel themes are serviceable, but they seem bland even when not comparing. At least the "best" ending is much easier to get.
Agreed, but still jammin!
I also heard DuckTales 2 is really affordable I think I'll go buy a copy right now.....
Guys Can somebody help me with my rent? GUYS??? 😰
Damn you got that good rent payment, only one DuckTales 2 worth!
Wait, there was a 2?
Snuck in at the end there :)
Every time ive seen ducktales 2 loose, its always been $230.00
Yeah that’s unfortunate
I somehow saw 2 first (GB version) therefore finding out about 1. Never owned either.
That GB version sounds rad
I think I need to be a patreon. I need my name with a tecmo Super Bowl pic in the back
Ewwww that’d be sweet!
Cool I’ve never seen anyone review this everyone says it’s not as good as the original but it looks better to me and that last level audio in 1 is overrated imo
It is way better than give it credit
Where can I get a Scrooge Doll? Asking for a friend.
Also colloquially known as a “good mojo doll”, apparently.
I too am searching for it ;)
Unlike Chip & Dale 2 which is inferior, Ducktales 2 is better than the first game IMO. Nostalgia is the only reason why people consider it a better game. The Bermuda stage is my favorite theme in the game. It has Iron Maiden Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner vibes.
Bermuda is the winner 🏆
I actually prefer the original. I didn't care so much for what you have to do to get the good ending.
Nothing compared to what you have to do to get the happy ending ;)
@@BigOleWords Have you got that cheat code?
Hidden gem? More like cost unattainable gem 😂
That’s what keeps it hidden ;)
@@BigOleWords fair enough. 😂
That’s how I felt as a kid. You really have to master pogoing
Little loose with the hidden gem title. My fav hidden gem on OG Xbox is Halo...
You might be thinking of DuckTales 1
@@BigOleWords No, I was thinking of Halo 2. Ducktales 1 on OG Xbox was a banger tho. Saying any disney nes game is a hidden gem is like saying Little Samson is a hidden gem. Just because it was a late release doesn't make it "hidden". It's pretty well known that disney made good nes games with good sequels. Unless you happen to be neighbours with a sponge?
No one played this because no one can afford it 😭
famicom version is still expensive, but less so. there's also the version on steam.
Yeah it’s pretty silly. This was my first rare game and at the time it was $50? Seemed like a thousand at the time
I love fucktales
Woo-ooh!
@@BigOleWords second base is naughtier
That intro is _terrible._ I’d do away with that. No intro at all is always better. Good review otherwise though.
Do you Mr Show with Bob and David? Also, do you like Jesus Christ Superstar?
Nobody asked your fucking opinion.
You’re all good, different strokes for different folks!
I like it, feels like old RUclips.
Just unsure if that vocal line adds a whole lot, but actually _except_ with Hidden Gems, where the title makes it clear from the start that this is going to be a recommendation.
The first game was really difficult! I’ve played the 2nd one a little bit not really in depth though. Would you say it’s easier than the first game?
It is. Aside from the stuff I mentioned, the pogoing is much simpler, just hold B.
