This man has some of the best TJ out there . ! Great video content . I just ordered my steering wheel for my LJ rubicon. I will post a video of my 2 LJ black / yellow.
That's just about the easiest steering wheel removal I've ever seen
Looks super clean love it man
Thanks Liam
🇸🇪 steering wheel looks realy god👍
All the best
Thanks 👍
nice, now i know where to get one for mine... great work
Thanks Frank!
Fantastic info. My TJ needs a new steering wheel desperately. Cheers!
Thank you!
I know this post is back from 2019, but is this guy still around or the company? Bought my TJ last year and just doing little things here and there to make it look/drive better. This steering wheel is exactly what I want for my wrangler. Great video and thank you!
Yes, I just ordered one from him.
@@Toastermage245 do you have his information?
Did anyone ever come up with the information to order wheels from
This guy
Update on my steering wheel upgrade. Wheel is beautiful, however the wheel doesn’t actually fit on my 2003 Wrangler. The clock spring on my Wrangler is in the way of the new wheel. I am looking at installing a clock spring from the Cherokee, but the mounting is all different. This isn’t a direct replacement, for my application, without modifications.
Great video...Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Having just performed the WJ wheel swap in my 2006 rubicon here’s what I personally experienced:
1. The the clockspring didn’t fit as well on the WJ wheel compared to the TJ wheel. Yes, the spokes are the same but the actual mounting part of the wheel is slightly different.
2. The factory “required” 40 ft lbs for the steering wheel bolt is overkill for the WJ wheel. 40 ft. lbs will crush your clockspring and you’ll lose return to center while driving.
3. Trying to get the back controls to work is a huge PITA. I removed the WJ plastic and replaced it with the back plastic from the original wheel to eliminate the presence of non-functioning buttons.
4. horn, cruise control, etc. all wired up nicely and functioned correctly.
Did anyone else have the issues with the WJ wheel swap?
Just did the swap my self and encountered 1 and 2, sigh, looks like I need to just snug the bolt and not fully torque to spec.
@@kellenwatson2552 I had to barely snug the bolt on mine too but the wheel still has some slight front/back play in it. The wheels looks great though and the leather is holding up well. Anyone considering this purchase should opt for a TJ wheel ONLY and not a WJ wheel because it doesn't fit as well.
@@Toastermage245 I had to do quite a bit of playing around and trial and error to get the fit I wanted, I ended up making the wheel feel like stock turning wise but it took a lot. In the future I’m going to create a solid spacer to make the wheel fit proper but for now it is fine. I found if you seat the Clockspring in further you can snug the wheel down and negate the up and down play. Definitely not a 100% plug and play.
This is awesome thanks for posting! I will definitely be getting one after seeing this. Did you ever get around to doing the radio/volume controls or was it too complicated? Thanks!
No you'd have to change over the whole clock spring from the Cherokee and from my initial look it appears to be a bit larger than the TJ's version.
@@DarrylSheather Ahh understood. Well hey thanks again for the posting the video and the fast response . I just ordered mine today! Hopefully I’ll get up here in the next month or so
Where did you get that steering wheel... very nice.
Were you ever able to figure out how to get the controls on the back of the steering wheel to work for the radio?
I actually have to replace the original clock spring and looked at the other clocksprings with little success so far.
Darryl Sheather Alright. Very interested to see if you can get it to work or not. If you can please release a video about it!
That looks really nice. Would love forest green stitching for my sahara tj
Very happy with mine still
Hiya Darryl. Thank you so much for posting this. The leather is about done on mine as well.
Can you please post a link to the steering wheel puller you used?
Nice video, is there a video in adding cruise control to the jeep?
Mine has it
How's the leather holding up. Just got mine today and really happy with it. Afraid to driving it now to keep it looking new.
Looking great still! Just keep the leather conditioner up to it
Did you get your in the same configuration? Im also going to be getting one and I’m curious to see the other styles
What a great mod. I'm ordering mine today. Do things tighten and loosen the opposite way on right-hand drive TJs? Jk :)
Where can I purchase? The link in the description doesn't connect to any listing.
Seconded
Is there a link somewhere to the guy that does this work in Poland?
great looking steering wheel, I would love to get one..I can't find the guy ..does anyone know how to reach the steering wheel maker in Poland?
Were there any differences in the wheels? They look identical to me. Cruise buttons and airbag are the same. In other works, how can you tell the difference between a WJ and a TJ wheel?
Identical, another viewer made comment that the TJ wheel had a couple of blocks near the splines on the back of the hub but I can't confirm that.
Darryl, I'm a recent owner of a 98 TJ and replacing the steering wheel is high on the list. I don't see the contact info for the guy in Poland making these. Can you repost it?
This is the guys website, that might help out somewhat, aacars.pl
@@DarrylSheather This website is down, is there an alternate?
@@JeepTJWheelin Not that I know of.
@@DarrylSheather I reached out to him on Instagram.
Thanks for sharing. I'm replacing the steering wheel on my 06 TJ as well. Using your video as a guide, do you have any advice or gotchas to watch for? Did you have any trouble with the airbag light, and how long did you have the battery disconnected before you pulled the airbag?
Just disconnect the battery and start the disassembly. Be careful of the airbag connection as its fiddly and that's about it. No issues with the airbag light however months and months after changing the clock spring I have what appears to be another clock spring fail so have purchased genuine Mopar clock spring this time - fingers crossed. Best of luck with it.
I have buttons ur wheel?😂😂 I wish
lol
My tj is a 2006 built in Canada and I have no power options it’s a base sport but it has the 4.0 and the 6 speed trans
Hi did you have any issues with the clock spring, I have just done this wheel conversion and the clock spring dose not fit above and below the boss of the wheel. The new wheel has a taller boss plate than the old. This difference between the 2 wheels looks to be the same in the video. Dose your clock spring still fit and function correctly.
After performing the WJ wheel swap I too noticed the clock spring didn’t fit above and below the boss of the wheel. I also noticed that the factory torque spec of 40 ft. lbs was far too tight for the WJ wheel. 40 ft lbs crushed my clock spring and caused me to lose return to center while driving. I had to loosen up the bolt.
It's been a year since you responded to another viewer's question of being able to control the volume and radio with the back of the steering wheel. Could they install or possibly modify the clock spring so that it will work in our TJ's?
I've looked into all of this and can't really see a way around it, without getting into far too much work for the required outcome.
@@DarrylSheather Okay, thank you.
Anybody know if you can swap the 99 Style Wrangle wheel foe one of these?
Did the volume control works on your jeep, or you have to change the clock spring?
You'd need to change the clock spring
@@DarrylSheather thks
Any update on the audio connections at the back of the steering wheel… I just purchased an alpine double din stereo for my jeep TJ, and would like to update the steering wheel provided that I can get the audio controls to work…
You need an updated clock spring possibly from the Jeep the wheel came from with the audio buttons. From my initial research it’s not a bolt in
@@DarrylSheather Thanks for the quick response...Kind regards...PW
where did you get the steering wheel puller????
It's a gear puller, any hardware/auto shop would have them
Do you have to torque that bolt that connects the shaft to the steering wheel?
I don’t bother with torque specs for stuff like this. Just do up the nut up tight. The wheel is on a splined shaft so all the nut does is stop the wheel coming off.
Were you get it?
link should be in the bio for the vid
would this work with a 98 tj?
I can't see why not, the only thing would be that you might not have cruise control etc and the buttons on the wheel won't have any function.
i do have cruise control currently. this wheel shown in your video does too. or does the cruse control function not cross over with the new wheel?
@@Hank_Amarillo Mine was just plug and play. Only questioning the Cruise as some of the earlier TJ's came without it.
