Both sounded good. I didn't hear enough difference to choose one over the other sound wise so sound alone I'd go with the cheaper version. I didn't cheat. I'd give guitar A a very minor preference over B for it's bridge pickup tone. Now time for me to check which is which.
I haven't read results yet. I think A was ever so slightly brighter sounding on all pickup choices. I listened about 6 times clicking the time stamps. They are so close that one would really not care once you started playing. I guess I would pick A, but I would take either. Thanks for your review.
I think guitar A had a slightly nicer sound but both sounded great. For the budget market Paul Reed Smith as a man and as a company have made the most perfect and affordable quality instrument. I own an SE 245 made in Indonesia and an S2 standard and both guitars are the best I’ve ever owned. PRS are by far the best on the market.
Thanks for the video. Got it right the B was the american because of the pickup noise and overall clarity and quietness. BUT still, amazing korean sounds, i want a PRS never had one, so i will try with an SE first. Thanks for the video.
I put this on in the background and switched browser tab to avoid cheating. They were both so similar that I didn't notice when the switch came! No idea which is which!
@@douglasvaughn9349 I'm going with the PRS Standard SE 24 translucent blue........ I'm working overseas, and getting an all-around package along with your review has me excited to work with this new axe......
Thanks for the video. I am going to buy the Korean model. I was able to identify which one was the overseas vs the American made. In my opinion both sound vey similar, but the American seems to be warmer, but I am not going to pay extra for such little difference. I tried one SC 245 yesterday for the first time and I loved the neck, it plays like butter. I will get one very soon. Thank you again and good luck on your channel.
some mention the A guitar was a bit brighter. I agree and some of that is also to the fact of open coil pups. I find that covers do darken the tone a bit. I have always preferred open coil for that reason
Guitar A sounded a bit cracky, the notes sounded apart and did not merge properly. Guitar B sounds good well blend and the notes join better, although it sounds slightly more muddy.
first couple of comparisons - I liked B and thought it had that classic sound that we all want; but in the last comparison, I liked A better because of the brightness. B sounds a little more rich or full but I think A sounds a little brighter. I guess it would come down to what you like best. If I was playing rock, blues, southern rock, I'd probably go with B but if I was going to play country with a little bark I'd take A
What i don't understand is. If a PRS that is made in the USA uses 85/15s and one in Korea uses 85/15s also. What is the difference or is there any difference in sound? Because both American and Korean uses both 85/15s
It was close but guitar B sounded ever so slightly better to me, it had more growl and clarity than guitar A. If you listen to guitar B at 5:10 you hear more clearly the difference in clarity and more growl at 5:14 but it was the same with the other 2 positions as well. However... guitar B did not sound that much better to justify the price, I would go with the SE245 without thinking about it, unless I was bill gates, but hey does he even play guitar?
I guessed A was American because it had more clarity. B had a warmer sound that I actually preferred but I thought it was more fuzzy/muddy so it would probably mean cheaper pickups.
Very seriously considering getting a Korean made single cut (a little different 1 tone 1 vol with a 3 way....I don’t like the toggle at the top). I liked guitar B for the bridge and middle. Guitar A for the neck. Good video. It was interesting to play.
B is the American made, but very close. Sounds a bit "flatter" which is what I usually find in PRS American made stuff. The Koreans are a bit brighter. Thanks for doing this.
A was brighter. B had more low mids and was just more balanced across the frequency spectrum. For that reason I thought B was the American and A was Korean but I liked the bite of A better.
I chose Guitar B. It had a low ended sound than Guitar A which was a bit brighter in sound. Both were great sounding but I'm biased to low ended sound. I would have bought the Guitar B!
I was listening on my iPad so the speakers are not optimum for this but, I pick “B”. I thought it sounded smoother and more articulate. Now I will look through the comments and see which one I liked. Thanks!
Guitar B was the Korean model. Btw the early Korean SE245 are outstanding guitars, I own one, bought one for my brother and is my go to guitar. Great guitar, great value for your money.
Bridge and middle positions sounded the same to me. On the neck position, B sounded a bit smoother, but the difference was extremely subtle. Basically, they sound the same.
That’s easy, A-Korean. I’ve got 5 SE and American made PRS models. From custom 22’s, 24’s to 245. When I did the same comparison on my Korean vs American; the American made PRS has a thicker, fatter tone. The difference was in which model pups were installed be it the 85/15, 58/05 or the dragon II. The SE models are always brighter with less overtones, but still produces a fantastic warm and classic tone. You can’t go wrong with either one, they are both fantastic guitars.
PRS SE 245. Brilliant guitars worth the much less money you pay for one. I also own a S2 single cut standard model, also brilliant. Hoping to add another PRS as well. Really good guitars in my view.
Would love to have seen a comparison between the SE 245 and the S2 Singlecut as I feel they might be more difficult to tell apart, as well as being closer in terms of price. Is the S2 worth it at twice the price of the SE? I'm undecided on either as I've yet to try an S2 and there's very little out there in the way of reviews, except for the S2 Standard Singlecut which I don't like the look of.
I liked the B guitar better it had a warmer sound to me. I don't like bright sounding guitars and guitar A had that bright sound to it. The both guitars sounded more similar than I would have thought.
I preferred A. It had a little more output and more top end. Shock !!! Horror !!!! I actually picked the Korean made guitar. That result was a surprise. 😅
I prefer the brighter A. I wonder if you couldn't adjust amp settings to get them to sound the same anyway. But, I do think a comparison should be without amp adjustments. Everywhere on the net seems like people are changing pickups from factory so for those people, this shouldn't matter.
My guess would be A for American and B for Korean... I perceive A to have p90's and B to have humbuckers... A sounded a bit brighter to me and B felt a bit more fuzzy but seemed a bit smoother between pick up changes.. Once more this is purely speculation as I am still a beginner guitarist and only commenting due to the channel wanting feedback as part of the experience... BTW I'll take both thanx
The difference is minimal, but i can hear that A has a brighter sound and i do prefer that. You should take into account that its possible for the pickups have difference because of the covers. Not because of the cover itself but because of how the poles are screwed, since if you do have the covers they will be raised a tad bit compared to the one without it. Never tested it myself but i saw some youtubers commenting about the difference. This is a case where i'd honestly get the cheapest or the prettiest. Both sounds almost identical.
If my guess is right, the A" guitar is the Korean version as it produce more louder and clearer sound compared to guitar B" US version though not as clear as the A" But it enhances more the Bass sound and solid tone.
I thought A was a little brighter and airier in a good way. B sounded a tad "dull" as well as darker, lacking a little resonance. So I would have guessed "A is for American", and I see I was wrong. But this is in line with my limited experience trying out PRS guitars. I always feel like they're bound up in a little too much lacquer or something that's preventing them from completely "singing". Someday I will regret posting this comment, because now Paul will never give me one of his guitars.
Hey thank you for your video on PRS Korean and USA comparisons. Personally, I couldn't tell the difference. I'll have a shot, I think guitar A was the Korean made PRS (probably an incorrect guess). Either or sounded good. At the moment I can only afford a Korean PRS model, what the hey! Thank you great video. Gary from Tasmania/Australia
Yes, there is a noticable difference in the feel of the two guitars. The neck is also not exactly the same and you can tell the difference in quality between the American and Korean made versions.
@@addictedtogear Hi, Thank you for the reply. I thought that would be the case. I have a S2 Custom 22 and a Mira and much preferred the feel of these to any of the SEs I tried. My brother! lol - I was soooo happy that A was the foreign-made one. Funny thing is - I used to own a US Custom 22, and I just knew B was the US one because it sounded kind of thicker, woolier - but I did prefer A. Highly considering the SE 245 or SE Paul's Guitar to get back to the 22 fret, wide fat neck. Have a CE 24, might keep it, but I miss the thicker neck and that Les Paul tone (which back when I had the Custom, I hated how Les Pauls looked - but I loved the thick tones of my Custom 22 - I didn't realize that thick tone I liked was probably most similar to a Les Paul, lol).
A slightly brighter and louder. B less bright and less volume. I guess B would be the US one going off tone although US models are usually brighter an louder than cheaper made pickups. The difference can be adjusted on the pots let alone on the amp. I think B is the US. Either way the only real difference is what they are made of for me.
I'm not a guitar player. I'm just a drummer. My dad is the guitar player. He bought 1 of the 1st ever made PRS guitars in Annapolis, MD. He bought it for 2,200 from Paul back in 1984ish.... I couldn't tell enough of a difference between either A or B. Sound wise too close to call. I have played both at a local shop and can say they both play well. I don't make my money playing guitars so for me the SE will do just fine if I have to buy it with my money. However if someone was to buy it for me I sure wouldn't turn the SC down.

B for me but with out a lot of difference
The only real difference are the pickups and nut. Guitar A has a more mid range hollow tone because of the cheaper pickups where B has a more tight compressed and sustained sound. Install some EMG Retro Active 77's, or some quality passive Duncan's, with quality pots and a graphite nut in guitar A and it will come alive and sound better than both.
Perhaps not muddy, but smoother. Sounded American distortion.
Guitar B but couldnt tell which was which.
