Hi, we're Jesper & Vanessa! We have had a passion for traveling since we met in 2013. Since then we have been working towards the goal of being able to travel full-time. We left our corporate jobs in the end of 2018, packed one carry-on bag each and left the comfort of our home in Sweden to go out and explore the unknown. We are now traveling full-time since June 2019 and are happy to take you with us on our journey exploring the world!

    The beauty of durian ...
    1. You cannot describe the taate or the smell
    2. You either hate or love it. So it is not for everyone.
    3. Every durian is unique and varies...with different % of sweetness, bitterness and some alcohol flavour
    4. A forbidden fruit in hotels, public transport etc.
    5. The most expensive fruit esp for the premium ones
    6. The fruit where people organise a party/social gathering with...durian party or durian feast.
Hmmm...I really think it is a special and mysterious fruit. I am still trying to figure why is it created with hard thorn?

Welcome to Malaysia! Since you're a vegetarian like myself and do not eat spicy foods, make sure you tell the food vendors. Bak Kut Teh is a Chinese dish. Chinese medicine is added to the broth. Most Bak Kut Teh sold are meat based. Pork are used for the cooking. Bak Kut Teh are Chinese words. Bak means meat, Kut means bone and Teh means tea. Most westerners don't like durian because of the stinkly smell. So, I suggest that you don't take it. However the locals love it. It is a very expensive fruits. Most foods sold in Malaysia are non Vegetarian. However, you can tell the food vendors not to include meat in the dishes. Always asked first. If you happen to visit the Twin Towers, there is Buddhist temple nearby which is 10 walk. They serve many vegetarian dishes for lunch between 11.00am to 2.00pm. The canteen is located at the back of the temple. This temple is a tourist area. Westerners also take their lunches in this temple. ruclips.net/video/xyZB91SfgFE/видео.html

Thank you Kenny! Thanks for clearing that up and for all that good info! 😃 Durian is indeed a pretty expensive fruit! It would have been super nice to visit the Buddhist temple and eat there, unfortunately we are no longer in Malaysia, but if we found ourselves in KL again we definitely must go there! Thanks again Kenny! 😊

My daughter and are going to take a trip to Langkawi. I 've searched for some information, and see your video. Then from that, I find some more in KL, where we will stop by for 1 day. Those videos are very interesting. I like them, and you guys, too.
Your English is much easier to get than the vendors in KL ! Besides, you two are so sweet, so nice !
I've also visited Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, and Malaysia several times.

  • @yskwong
    @yskwong 4 года назад

I'm Malaysian, and Jalan Alor is indeed one of the best place to indulge for food.
The vegetarian tofu soup you ordered is Bakuteh soup. Bakuteh is literally "Pork Bone Tea". The soup is cooked with pork and pork bones, that's what the base of the soup is. What they did was probably not put the meat on it, but the base of the soup is pork bones.
As for Durians, you need time to adapt to the smell and taste. Give it a few go on separate occasions, once you start to enjoy it, you'll get hooked and addicted to it. Go for the best of the best "Musang King".

Expensive one. It's good to find good durians in Greenwood (use your GPS) - can always ride a bus (but you need to purchase a Touch and Go Card at any of the kiosk in KLCC, LRT Train Stations etc. And yes, the local delicacies? Places like Sri Gombak will do good for you - cheap, varieties (Indian, Malay, Indonesian, Thai). Just use LRT from anywhere to the Gombak Station (last station - which also can lead to Genting via express bus), take the free Yellow Bus (Smart Selangor) which has a schedule, (download SiTs app which has a Red bus Icon - switch on the GPS to see the schedule - it's an average of 1 hour per bus) - stop at Greenwood for Durian or local food court or Banjaria Court - for Sri Gombak (ask the Driver) and use the pedestrian crossing nearby to go to Sri Gombak - the rest is your call. (find SG 1/6 or SG 1/8 - you'll see what I mean - there is more actually - you can explore them). Batu Caves is about 500 metres away. You can still board on the Yellow Free Bus or walk - if you can stand the hot sun or need a good tan. Why am I recommending Sri Gombak - I know, I've been there many times... Anyway good job on the video.

Take MRT to Bukit Bintang (Starhill) thats the Bukit Bintang Golden Triangle /the Heart of Bukit Bintang!
Most of the food comes in 3 version.
Go for 'Char Kuey Teow', the Chinese fry noodle that is not spicy.
    Mee Goreng is normally spicy.
The sesame ball is called ' You Chi'

I do believe there are many vegetarian restaurants in KL..as most malaysian loves beef and other protein..it is quite seldom to find designated vegetarian vendors on the streets..anyway love to watch your channel..

In Malaysia you can always ask for the vegetarian food. Tell the waiter no chicken, no meat, only to cook food with vegetables. You can also tell them for less spicy or not spicy food. Malaysian food can always be customised. 😛

If you are looking for MALAY food, you should go to Kampung Baru, not Bukit Bintang. From your video, looks like you were served by foreign workers, Myanmar, Bangladeshi, Indians and Indonesians, and looks like you have been misled by the info given

i cant believe the sell 3pcs putu piring for RM5 ! you can walk to any 'pasar malam' or night market and find cheaper putu piring, 5pcs for only rm2, also can find lots of malay food there.. i think train station staff advise to get MRT cuz it is new and faster to commute than Monorail.. anyway, welcome to Malaysia and enjoy your stay🤗

actually in jalan alor is half of malaysia culture food.. but the putu piring is yes.. one more thing in jalan alor is more expansive because there is a tourist place to visit and dine.. maybe u can go to Kampung Baru.. around 5km from Bukit Bintang.. there u can see a lot of local tradisional malay food.. and vegetarian.. nice video and have a good day

I also suggest both of you to visit Sarawak, a state in East Malaysia (Borneo Island). Its will give you different experience. More to nature & culture diversity.
