    Hi, we're Jesper & Vanessa! We have had a passion for traveling since we met in 2013. Since then we have been working towards the goal of being able to travel full-time. We left our corporate jobs in the end of 2018, packed one carry-on bag each and left the comfort of our home in Sweden to go out and explore the unknown. We are now traveling full-time since June 2019 and are happy to take you with us on our journey exploring the world!

    Tips: if you can't finish your food even if you eaten half of it, you can always ask them to pack it for you. It's a common thing in Malaysia.

    Vegetarian food in Malaysia, especially the Chinese type, is often catered to certain religious groups eg buddhists. Hence it’s often gluten or tofu based. They will make it to resemble more common meat based dishes. Hence dishes made to look like chicken, beef, fish, drumsticks etc. It’s probably harder to find vegetarian street food in tourist spots with street stalls mainly catered to the masses. There are quite a few vegetarian restaurants in KL. It’s only a “google” search away. Love your Vlog!

      Yes, honestly speaking, those Chinese vegetarian food resembling the meats are processed food, thus, shouldn't take as regular meals, it's not very healthy. Most healthy vegetarian food is still the Indians one, with pure veggies, herbs and spices in gravies and soup which are good for health. 😁👍

    Great that you guys loved the street food....my friendly tip: always google to find out where the locals eat, Chinatown is a very touristy place and you will notice not many locals will eat there as its very pricey, USD16 for those 3 dishes is just way too expensive. The food courts in the shopping malls serve great street as well, like Pavilion Mall near Bukit Bintang, or Lot 10, KLCC Food Republic is another good place where locals dine for reasonably priced street food.....but glad you guys loved it.

    Hot food should be put on a plate and cut into pieces with spoon & fork to cool it and mixed with portions of other dishes. We tend to eat rice or noodles with a bit of other dishes in a spoonful, unlike Western where you might fork each item in turn or even finish each first. So each spoonful will be a full taste. Otherwise you might find too each dish too salty/sweet/sour/spicy because it meant to be eaten with rice/noodles to balance the flavours. Yes it was over priced because you are foreigners - more than doubled. Better choose to eat where you can see the prices on the menu. Without a guide, it is easy to over pay.

  • @linustw
    @linustw 4 года назад +3

    there is no such thing as frilled friend rice....haha
    actually the fried rice was done in wok, using extremely high heat (Chinese called it 'wok hei', the heat of the wok). the result is to cook whatever ingredients in shortest time at high temperature yet it retains the freshness of vegetables and meat (for meat eaters).
    Glad you guys enjoyed it. There are proper and full Chinese vegetarian restaurants but its far and between. Most indian restaurants especially those in Brickfields are too happy to serve you vegetarian foods.

    Central Market in front of Petaling Street/Chinatown has many shops selling fancy hats. It is also covered and air conditioned so you wont be feeling the heat from the outside. Also it probably has the best collection of Malaysian handicraft, art and souvenirs. There is a food court above where you can go when you get hungry after shopping. Its also clean and organized compared to Petaling Street.

    Hey, I’m not sure how long you’ll stay here, but about “never been to rainforest before”, you can try it here in Malaysia, this is the place with tropical rainforest, can check out Taman Negara National Park, or Royal Belum State Park which is a pristine forest that’s older than the Amazon and Congo forest. Definitely gonna worth your visit.

    Try Little India, Brickfields next to KL Sentral. There are few good Malaysian Indian vegetarian restaurants around there. Vegetarian options for Chinese food mostly the same, noodle, fried rice and fried mixed vegetable with tofu or vegetable soup. For Malay foods mostly for side dishes that are vegetarians but plenty of fishes and seafood !

    RM66 ($16) for 3 plate of that is about RM22 per plate which is a scam. More than anything else because you went with the vegetarian route. Most of the time, the main course i.e. meat, beef and seafood (squid/prawn/crab/fish) is the most expensive item on the menu. Seafood more so than anything else right now due to monsoon seasonal change (Nov-March / May-Sept). It is not weird to ask for price before you sit down and order but then again you're not locals and wouldnt have a clue what would be acceptable or not. My advice is befriend a local and let them be a food tour guide. There are food tour guide services and I'll admit they do a pretty good job from what I've seen but I'm a cheapskate and plenty of Malaysian would be more than happy to take you guys on a food tour for free. Just ask around on your social medias if you have any Malaysian followers. I guess its too late but right now we have yet another public holiday i.e. Deepavali. I dont even know if you guys are still here in Malaysia or not but among the 3 main race in Malaysia, Indian have the most vegetarian options.

    & btw is quite hard to find authentic local vegetarian food but if you like sweet stuff, you guys should definitely try the desserts. I personally would recommend cendol 😁

    • @solehsolehsoleh
      @solehsolehsoleh 4 года назад +1

      Nasi Lemak comprises of Rice cooked with coconut milk, cucumber slices, fried peanut, fried anchovies, boiled egg and sambal sauce. It is incomplete w/o anchovies and egg tho but you can still ask to not have 'em, just to taste the coconut rice with sambal.
      but one of Malay cuisine I recommend is Nasi Kerabu, literally Veggie Rice, sometime served with meat, so ask for vegetables only.

    That tofu is not really vegan. It's made from egg and not soya bean. You should have ordered tofu made from soya bean instead or leave it out.

    I'm Malaysian. One of the reason I don't really like Chinatown is that lady's attitude [time stamp 5:25/14:23]. She's was speaking in Cantonese. . . something along the line "difficult to earn your money". Rude of her really.
    Otherwise, your videos are fantastic. Not pretentious and as matter of fact. And, I saw many nice and kind Malaysians engaging you guys. Thank you for visiting Malaysia.
