Life is good here ! The guy at the end of the video cooks a mean Grapow Moo ! Great seeing ya ! On the mend now !
Good to see you buddy!
We were in Hang Dong twice this week! It’s a good little trip from Mae Rim but it’s nice to get to visit new store and food options sometimes. We could hardly believe a brand new house in Hang Dong with 5 bedrooms is only 35k/month! We also hit Lamphun and really liked the mall and how laid back and different that city felt! We tried to get a factory tour from there for the whole family but didn’t succeed (it was worth a try!).
That's great Valie, i really like Lamphun also, it's like a miniture Chiang Mai. I like Mae Rim also.
Thank you for beeing so polite and frindly to the locals and market place sellers !!! Many behave rude, arrogant and egoistic
Thanks Alfa, I always try my best to be polite, it's how I was raised. Thank you. 🙏
When I arrived in February 2023 I thought that Hang Dong was where I was going to end up, I looked at quite a few houses there but they were all overpriced. I chose eventually chose Doi Saket and my friends in Hang Dong are jealous. It definitely is a high ExPat area. Thanks for the tour.
Nice area Doi Saket mate, i might be doing a few vlogs out that way soon. Cheers buddy.
My son lived in Hang Dong for some years. The Jungle is one of my favourite restaurants. My grandchildren went I the International Schoo which has now moved.
Great area!!
Nice one Andrew, i like the Jungle cafe also, great place to sit for an afternoon.
Firstly, can I give a big shout out to Bill@Unseen Thailand. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
Thanks for showcasing our neighbourhood Wayne. The first couple of years in Thailand, I was happy enough to reside just outside the old city gate. Gradually, we got tired of living in a tourist hot spot. Been happy living in San Phak Wan, part of the very large Hang Dong district.
Nice one Lars! It is a great area and some really nice Moo bans in Hang Dong. I could easily live that area.
Hang Dong is very nice. Thanks for showing us around. Beautiful sunny day also. 😀👍🏼
Cheers mate! Hang Dong is a great area.
Great vlog Wayne. We particularly love the pnes where you're walking the streets seeing the city. It's great that you saw Bill from Unseen Thailand., hopefully he's on the mend. Thanks as always, Alan and Lillian in OZ 😊
Thanks guys! I enjoy the walking vlogs and will be doing a few more. I think Bill is on the mend, so good news.
Ideal location with everything close by. Thanks for sharing Wayne 🤩
Great area mate, probably the most popular with retirees. Thanks buddy👌
Brilliant video! I’m not in Thailand but living vicariously. Would love a video showing what foods are both from a menu and supermarket. It’s confusing looking at a menu with names I’ve never heard (apart from the obvs ones) or packed treats in the supermarket with no English on them. All the videos show durian 😂
Thank you! Maybe I'll do some food videos again in the future. haha yes, the Durian seems to be the videos people make,
I lived in San Pa Tong. I could easily live in Hang Dong for the same reasons - the best thing about living outside of Chiang Mai centre is the excitement of going to the centre. For me, Chiang Mai is too good to be true - I didn't want to get used to it.
That's a good reason mate, i think that's what i need soon. Make going into the city an event and not living in the city everyday. Thanks.
We are moving to Chaing Mai in September, this was a great vlog, thank you.
Thanks, glad the vlog helps.
delicious to see hangdong city, haven't spent any time there myself, the ten years I've been in chiang mai
This was the first time I've looked around the Hang Dong town area. Great location with everything on hand.
@@WalkAboutWayne when everything is in hangdong city, you don't need to go to CM city so often..there is so much else in cm city
Hi Wayne, Hang Dong looking good.. very different green tea to the ones I'm used to, but good and healthy. I really hope that you will be around for the second week of November as I've just booked CM 😊. Loads of Leo's with you're name on them....keep it real..thanks
Hi Denis, i should be around in November buddy, hope to see you around the city.
Really like this neighbourhood Wayne. Would be one of my top picks if I settled my arsh down in CM.
Glad to hear the legendary Bill is out and about. Was a bit worried with the silence on his channel. Hope his recovery goes well.
Bill is on the mend hopefully buddy :)
Really enjoying the different area to live vlogs Wayne . It's an area I will definitely check out accomodation wise .
Moo Bans previously have not appealed to me but never say never
Cheers Paul, I have a few more district walks coming soon mate.
Hi mate back in oz great blog like always hang dong is a great area glad you had a ride on a pcx thy are a great bike take care mate.
Nice one David, hope you had a safe trip back.
Great place love how friendly the vendors where with you
Yes, very friendly people.
I see the PCX is starting to win you over, too. The Aerox used to be my dream bike until I started paying more attention to the Honda. Both good choices.
Yes Earl, after riding the PCX i'm in 2 minds. I really like the design and look of the Aerox, but the PCX comfort was amazing.
Hang don looks nice has everything you need.have a nice weekend wayne
It's a nice area! Thanks Julie
I went chaing mai twice before in the early 90s. Just stayed in city centre by the night market. How far is this place to city centre , how much in a tuk tuk. It looks OK but bit quiet, didn't see any bars
Nice! Get a Songthaew into the city, 40 Baht max. No party bar scene in Hang Dong buddy. It's about 20 minutes outside the city. Cheers
@WalkAboutWayne nice one thanks for getting back with the info. Us jj restaurant still in the centre by the old wall. Good food
The Green Tea lady is a real Bobbie Dazzler. You should interview some of these shop owners.
She was a nice lady .
Hang Dong looks like a good area with plenty there for both locals & expats. I'd feel it would help me learn Thai if I was based in an area like this......just out of the centre where not many speak fluent English.
Hang Dong would be great for that Clair. It pushes you people to learn a bit more. I find myself being lazy in the city with learning more .
You should get yourself a neck a/c ! They are wonderful ! Temu has some that last 5 hours! I have used these for 3 years... You'll be glad you did!....😊
Nice! I've never heard of that. Maybe I'll look it up 👍
You and Bill are my trusted Chiang Mai sources.. a couple of down to earth people. Looking forward to Bill getting through it and back to his old self.
Do people drive those 50k baht electric scooters on the side of the road? I might be able to handle that, if it’s not too dangerous. HD definitely looks like a nice liveable area. Think 75k baht/month gets a good life there, Wayne?
Thanks mate. Not to many ride the electric bikes here. In Vietnam they ride them more. I do see people riding them in Chiang Mai though. 75,000 Baht is over $2,000. You can live like a king on that here mate.
@@WalkAboutWayne That’s good to hear.. I barely drink the booze, maybe 60k will be enough. Just want a nice 1 bedroom apartment mainly.
Same here mate, I've met both of them, both top blokes
I could live there ,thanks for showing.
This is a very popular area. Thanks
I prefer to live amongst the locals. Forces me to live like a local and learn the local ways. It's much quieter in the evening as well. Everyone goes to bed by 8 or 9pm in my neighborhood. It takes me 15-20 min to drive into the Old City. I rarely see any expats except at the pub down the road.
Sounds perfect Steven, just how i like it.
Soon Im back,love it….
Nice one! Come back soon.
don hong is so great it should have its own holiday
👍👍👍
Hey Wayne, what's the area with those big trees they tie a big ribbon around, is it near the Ping?
It's on Lamphun road, going down to Nong Hoi market. Yes, near the Ping mate.
@@WalkAboutWayne Cheers mate. I like that area.
Do you think chang mai is a better place to retire than jomieten towards Pattaya thank you from Scott new Zealand
Only you can answer that Scott mate. I've never been to Jomtien.
@@WalkAboutWayne thank you Wayne for your advice from Scott new Zealand see petrol new Zealand 3dollar a litre getting expensive now rip off
I'm from NYC, can i travel chiang mai with just english? Also where is the best place to exchange money? and is riding there safer than Vietnam?
Yes, you can stay in Chiang Mai with English. Learn a few words though. Many places to change money, superrich is a good one. For me, Vietnam is worse for driving but the statistics say Thailand. Cheers
Eleven years in and out of Chiang Mai, never really been to Hang Dong. I always stay in the Old City. I know Bill lives there.
Some great houses and cafes around Hang Dong. I normally drive past the market area. Yes, Bill lives in Hang Dong.
Great vlog Wayne. Hope to see a Doi Saket soon as we’re thinking of moving there in February
Thanks Steve, I might be in the Doi Saket area soon 👌
I can see the attraction but my lease is up the start of Séptémber and I want Nong Hoi or Wat Ket.
Location, location, location.
Nong Hoi my number 1
Is there lots of street food here yes Wayne I am surprised you don’t sell shirts and cups many RUclipsrs sell them
Yes, lots of food and the market in the car park at night. I will never have merch for my channel buddy.
Wayne it would be great if you could find a condo in hang dong with a swimming pool 6900 per month I see one but couldn’t get the name near the market this could be a place for me in the future
I'm sure I'll be doing more condo reviews in the area at some point 👍
@@WalkAboutWayne great Wayne I have heard so much about Lana resort when I was in chaing Mia never visited this place would love to see it the guy lived there and said it had wood everywhere and the proper thai feel and he said 4500 per month with swimming pool would love to see it mate ? In Hang dong
I'm wondering if the heat will be too much for me. I'm a native Floridan and this heat mskes me miserable 😄
It's hot here most of the time, but I'm sure you'll be fine, being from Florida.
As this seems outside the city and more rural, how bad is the snake problems?
Probably more at risk of seeing snakes or finding one in the home.
Hi Wayne. Is 15-20k baht per month good enough budget to get a two bedroom house in hang dong?
Hi Dhruv, yes you would find many for the price range.
Thanks Wayne
Cheers Jack 👍
Any bars in Hang Dong?
A few around. Some live music and chilled road side bars.
I think the proximity into Central is a key. Although can be a pain in the ass at times.
Probably the biggest draw to Hang Dong over the years has been the schools (although not a issue with me). As a result a lot of the "single family" housing developed around them. Just guessing.
Yes mate, the schools are a big factor and the amount of gated housing estates around Hang Dong, they are everywhere. Easy to get into town. I can see the love for Hang Dong.
Ah.. and I thought it'd be Nimman. I suppose it's probably gotten expensive there as of late, perhaps. Never been as far out southwest as Hang Dong.. They say durian season has just started, that means mangosteens.. And judging from the night market the last 2-3 weeks they're having a bumper crop of mangoes as well.
I can't think of many Expats who make a home in NImman. People on 1 year visas and digital nomads maybe. I'm sure there is some though. I'm ready for all the Mangosteens mate, hopefully the price comes down a bit soon too.
Wayne it would of been great if you gave us prices of potatoes 🥔 and food stuff here I have never bend here before it seems like everything is here for you is accommodations cheaper for condos
Very cheap Robert 👍
Hang Dong? Never heard of it... is it near Doi Saket?
No Ken, Doi Saket is in a different direction. Hang Dong is South west of the city .
@@WalkAboutWayne Yes. I know - just teasing.
Hang Dong.... Home Sweet Home mate.
Can't beat bit of Hang Dong.
nice shirt bro, hope it keeps you cool, so which is your favourite place now ..
My favorite places are always the same buddy, Nong Hoi followed by Saraphi. 👍
@@WalkAboutWayne Cool bro, good to see that you have some time tested places that you really like ..
Went for the training today, everything was like you had just said ..
The course was really simple n probably could have went for the exam without the training too ..
But the 4 hour practice was still worth it as it was only 1k n i got to learn to ride on both the manual n auto bikes
@@WalkAboutWayne bro, is pai worth braving the migraine to get there if I'm not an ardent fan of the hippie culture ..
Do you think the vibe at Nong Hoi n Saraphi is way better ?
Is is Sunday or something bro? Because it looks kinda boring in my opinion.
That's what Hang Dong is buddy, quiet with not a lot happening.
Hang Don may be cheaper than central Chaing Mai with all the facilities but it looks a bit drab to me. I'd prefer staying in an area like Chang Phueak. Each to their own.
Chang Phueak is a great area Doug, can't argue with that. I would probably choose Hang Dong if i was renting a house.
I agree Doug looks dead as a door mouse..I'd get pretty bored real quick. One doesn't move across the globe for stores and markets...gotta be something else surely.
Nice vlog again m8
Thanks Jan 👍
Thanks Jan 👍
Hang dong is small city and quiet but everything there
🙏🙏🙏
👍😎
👍👍
Your Chinese accent is very good
Ahhhh Grasshopper!
3:26 mark,What we going to do.??....IS GET COFFEE!
You know me Alan, never touch the stuff.
Hi Wayne, are you a millionaire RUclipsr?
Yes......in Vietnam 👍
I ❤ Chiang Mai 😊🫰
Me too, it's a great city. 🙏
I agree Hang Dong is popular but I never knew why. Airport noise is pretty loud (or was) ....plus traffic is pretty thick. 😉
The traffic can get really bad on this stretch i agree. The Moo Bans are really nice areas in Hang Dong though.
iam fed up inflation of uk
Me to buddy.
@@WalkAboutWayne 2k pound nothing here
I use to stay Kula Pan view Driving round Chiang Mai worse than Bangkok
Nice one👍. Chiang Mai can get a bit crazy at rush hour.
I really thought you was gonna say nimman
🤣🤣🤣
Married my Mrs in Hang Dong!
Nice💍💍💍
MIMIN
???
Go to a expat area and not interview any expats?
Why would I want to do a silly thing like that .
You forgot the map haha 😂
the map starts at 0:40 seconds into the video.
You been taking a nap Marshy 🤣
I stand corrected 😔
Ha Hang Dong, near as bad as Bangkok !
Chalk and cheese buddy. 2 different worlds .
Why don’t we see you with Thai girls mate ?? Don’t you bother with them
Causes to much hassle unless you have a serious partner buddy.
@@WalkAboutWayne fair enough
@@Stuffed007 To much hassle to have them in the videos that is. But never say never.
@@WalkAboutWayne I find them very child like here and stay clear of them if I need a bit of fun I head to Pattaya and once iam done I head back to my home in chanthaburi alone
