We didn’t know it at the time, but this fight ended up being one of the most important fights for Sean. Getting beat by Pereira and training with him in preparation for Izzy played a big factor in his championship fight.

Certainly helped him refine his style. The prototype was the same, tho.
His pressure here was terrible, not cutting the cage, only chasing Pereira like an NPC. He refined that, against Izzy he was cutting the cage pretty efficiently.
He now doesn’t bites as much into feints as he was doing here. He wasn’t extremely reactionary to feints against Izzy, refined that.
Ian Curtis just said they had someone in their camp that finally taught Sean how to defend leg kicks. Here he was getting his leg chewed up badly, against Adesanya, he avoided a ton of leg kicks, he refined that.
His striking defense was always impeccable, he just refined his game.

In the video of Sean training with Alex, Sean said how he didn't realise how bad his footwork was and it was one of the things he took away from that training, and you can totally see it in this fight when comparing to the Izzy fight. In this fight Sean allows Alex to keep circling around him to keep the fight in the centre of the cage. In the Izzy fight Sean cuts off the side escapes way more effectively with better footwork and forces Izzy back towards the cage.
