This is a dialect thing. We call sandwiches made with ground meat patties “burgers”. Anything else is a sandwich. Outside of North America a burger is a sandwich that is served on a roll/bun. In North America the bread isn’t the main determining factor in whether it’s a burger or not.
That pretty much sums it up - in Australia, it comes down to roll vs bread, but I personally struggle with the idea of shoving a chunk of chicken in a roll & calling it a burger! 😉

Exactly! Although it still feels a bit like cheating to put a chunk of fried chicken in a bun and call it a burger 😂😂

You have made a fundamental mistake, buns and rolls, etc ARE bread, what you meant was sliced bread, often called sandwich bread for obvious reasons.
True, but we don’t refer to buns and rolls as bread - I like your point about referring to it as sliced bread - it gives better clarification
Just because they are wrong shouldn't mean we'd have to be wrong also when visiting their country, the filling is irrelevant it's the type of bread that determines the difference between sandwich and burger .... it's pretty simple
I honestly think that I would struggle to call it a “sandwich” if I ever went to America….. it is pretty simple (& to the best of my knowledge, they’re the only country that call it a sandwich)

Its only a burger if its ground meat and not deep fried. Since a Chicken Sandwich is a fried chicken breast, its a sandwich. There is no burger involved. Burger meaning grilled or pan fried ground meat patty. Anything deep fried like a mcchicken even if ground meat is still a sandwich. If you ground up chicken and grilled or pan fried it and put it on a bun, THEN it would be a chicken burger. Same with loose or shredded meat. Its a sandwich, loose ground meat is a manwich or loose meat sandwich, pulled pork sandwich etc.
Only a ground meat not breaded patty, grilled, pan fried or steamed. Is a burger. Bread is irrelevant.
In Australia, it’s a burger if it’s in a bun, but to me if it’s not a patty (ie a chunk of fried chicken) then technically it’s not a real burger
