  • The Model Steamer Club has a history stretching back over 40 years as a group of Clyde steamer enthusiasts formed the club in the early 1970's to build and sail working 1:48 scale models of the paddle and turbine steamers which are such a huge part of Clyde shipping history.
The Model Steamer Club is based at Rouken Glen pond in East Renfrewshire. Modern diesel car ferries and other Merchant and Naval models can also be seen sailing at Rouken Glen on Saturday afternoons. Our scale model piers allow some practice at the difficult art of berthing. Particularly when a stiff breeze is blowing!
If you have an interest in building a model then come along and say hello. We have a wide range of experience to help you get going in what is a hugely rewarding and enjoyable hobby.

The boat's steaming in, oh, I watch the sidewheel spin,
And I think about her when I hear that whistle blow.
I can't change my mind, oh, I knew all the time that she'd go,
    That's a choice I made long ago. 😁

Thank you for posting this lovely video of the work done by some VERY TALENTED people. A LOT of time, effort and money has gone in to the models on show and the result is some STUNNING models of a Bye gone age. Well done to all concerned.

Are these powered by steam ?
If not, isn't the club misnamed ?

Hi Lyndar, thanks for taking the time to comment. The term Steamer refers to the full size ships that were such a huge part of the river Clyde's history. The Clyde Steamer fleet was made up of paddle and turbine Steamers. Pleasure steamers designed to carry passengers on day and shorter cruises on the Clyde estuary The ships that are represented here in model form are indeed electric powered. The Club's name refers to the generic term that these ships were fondly referred to by those that sailed on them. The tradition of these pleasure steamer cruises can still be experienced today aboard the Waverley. The last sea going paddle steamer in the world.

@@hdsdi yes. I cruised the Waverley to Southend last month. Beautiful experience. What a pity there are no steam-powered models, but I guess they would be a lot of trouble……
