Great vid, thanks for sharing! The talk about pulling targets on the USMC rifle range brought back good memories! I recall seeing some sideways bullet holes too (especially at the 500), and sometimes we heard the bullet ricochet off the overhead berm before hitting the target sideways. Good times. Nothing wrong with a well earned 'character marks' on a rifle. Have a great day!

@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 Where a pellet might get a little squirrely is if it's pushed supersonic, then has to transition back to subsonic on the way to the target. But that shouldn't be a problem if velocities are kept under 1000 fps. Maybe the 17 cal magnums would be prone to that.

@@shanepitzer4126 Tom Gaylord tested an air rifle with an adjustable muzzle weight. It was supersonic, and was good at 25 yards. He was going to test it more, but wasn't writing for the magazine the article was in much longer. So I didn't see how it did at longer range. A Daystate, maybe?

Very interesting discussion . I agree with everything you said concerning the HW 95. I have the Beeman R9 in .177 which I believe is the same gun. The main spring broke in the first couple of months so I put in a PG 4 Vortek kit . It’s astoundingly accurate and hits hard. The furthest I can shoot on my property is 51 yards . From a bench , dime size groups are the norm. It has a very flat trajectory. It is probably the perfect Springer . It’s as accurate as my sub 12ft lb HW97 and better when the wind is up.

This is my thought , it's placement . David verses Goliath , a small rock takes out lions , I take squirrels with a 2400kt no mods just placement the fps is less than 600 but my group is less than a dime , if I used match grade it's probably less , those rifles they issued us back in the day most had shit landing and grooves cause of the excessive use I can imagine our ammo came from who would sell it to Uncle Sam the cheapest. All my guns are beat up except the one collectors edition 760 I have. Now I do every now and then fix them up back up to where they are more visually appealing but for the most part I just like shooting them

When your projectile (pellet or bullet) goes through your target sideways, it's known as a key hole or key holing.

If you can call it a air rifle I barrowed a Crosman multi pump from my brother for the Starlings , took out many of them until they got wise and could her me pumping it .but on paper some would key hole but that thing was smooth bore . so bought A Gamo Sporter .which is now in hand of my grandson along with the Crosman. At first I tried to scare the bird away with a soft air gun but they just laughed and flow off so now it was war. now Iam Up to six rifles They also greatly helped with my powder burners. win, win.

Nice chat , you know one of the biggest lessons I learned shooting springers is about hold over or hold under , I just thought if it's accurate and sighted in just put crosshairs on target and you will hit it , it took me a long time to understand about where you Zero your scope and how the line of sight thru the scope and the ark of the pellet don't coincide, after a while you kinda figure it out , but it's counter intuitive to me anyway to be dead on at 25 yards but then you have to hold under for anything past that .
It still boggles my mind sometimes. There is no substitute for learning your riffle and most of of own to many to master 1 myself included.
You have great accuracy honestly my groups with a springer are more like 2.5 inches in 22 cal and I'm actually fairly satisfied with that since I mostly shoot paper targets.

The big super magnums can be pretty accurate, but at 48" long can be harder to shoot and carry all over the place. Last year when I shot a skunk 🦨 with my 16 FPE HW95 22, it was more than enough to drop it like a rock 🙂👍.
Seeing the skunk 🦨 kill, makes me know that I don't need to carry around the biggest longest break barrel on the planet, lol 🙂👍.

Love your videos! Did your HW95 have 17 fpe out of the box or did you install a kit? I bought mine last year from Airguns of Arizona. The test fire chronograph fps was 576 average with a 15.89 jsb exact. This calculates to only 12 fpe. I wonder if they sent me a UK version? Thanks for any feedback . Rich H

I was getting 18 FPE out of the box. Too much lube in the compression chamber. Then accuracy fell off. Opened it up and found the main spring broken in 2 places. Use the same spring for a while after heating it up and bending it and sanding it down. Lost one FPE from that process. I have a Vortec spring and piston seal inside now, with a DIY tune 😃👍. Either they gave you the UK version, or your piston seal is damaged or your main spring is broken 😕. I would contact them immediately 👍.
