Thanks for putting the time and effort to put this together, very interesting! Nice farmland in the background and away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
All of them can kill and yes some more efficiently than others but, don't underestimate the Daisy 880. I remember 30+ years ago a friend of mine got mad at his dad's prized hunting dog when it was barking non stop. He shot it with the 880 thinking he would only sting it with about 5 pumps. The dog died from that one shot hitting it in just the right place according to the vet. My friend had to face his dad when he came home from work and tell him what he had done. Back then parents actually disciplined their kids so, my friend had a hard time sitting down for a while and had to earn back the cost of the hunting dog. Great comparison video! It was surprising that they were all very close on penetration.
Great comments 👍. I had a Daisy 880 back in 1982-83, it was definitely more accurate and powerful than the current crop of the 880's. I never scoped it, but could plink can's at 30 yards. It was my new hunting machine, over the single pump Daisy. I killed a few squirrels and numerous black birds with it. Now I really wish I still had it.
I have a Gamo Squirrel Terminator in 22 caliber. It is probably called something else like a Varminter maybe. It has a polymer stock and its fairly light weight. I was concerned that it might be hard on scopes. So i went to the Dollar Tree and a bought several gel filled rubber squeese toys and i stuffed three of them into the hollow butstock of the Gamo. I was surprised by how much quieter it shoots now. Also there is way less vibration when i fire it. The rifle balances better too with about a pound of gel toys in the butt end of the rifle. The gel toys look like rubber bananas filled with gel and white plastic beads. I went back and bought several more for other guns.
Man I shot a squirrel with my 880 like 2 years ago…never again. Had to switch guns and finish it off. Felt terrible. I use my 880 for spiders and various flies. No pellet just air.
Love the selection of guns. Would love to see another test with them. The gel test was quite surprising. I do wonder about it like you said. In real world killing power I suspect the difference will be greater. Nice work.
Thank you Tim. I would definitely like to try it again, but Saturday is suppose to have a low of -8°F. I did test 4 air rifles on a deer head for penetration from 25 FPE to 8 FPE, including the lowly Daisy 880. If you would like to check it out. ruclips.net/video/Mm_wMEYp3x0/видео.html
The 177 will penetrate deeper than the 22 all things being equal because of the increased frontal area of the 22 pellet. I agree that shot placement is critical for quick, humane kills. It doesnt really take that much power or velocity. I kill nutria, think beaver with a round tail, in box traps with one pointed pellet through the top of the head out of my Crossman 1322. It's an old gun so I over pump it but velocity can't be much over 500 fps. I get instant kills with it. I think that all guns and all pellets will shoot into an inch at some distance off the muzzle. It's up to us to work out what that optimum distance for that gun and pellet combination is. The FBI says 12 to 14 inches of penetration in gel is optimum for humans. I would think that 6 to 8 inches would be plenty for small game. Wouldn't you? Thanks for the video
I also have a Bengamin Durango with Nitro Piston. It has iron sights and a wood stock. It is probably called something else dressed in a poly stock without sights. It seems to be more powerful than my spring powered Gamo . It gives my arm and shoulder more of a workout than the Gamo does. I would like to know what to compare it too.
A good tip for cutting your ballistic gel. a metal high b guitar string fix the hole end of string to the table and fix a handle to other end . Like cutting cheese.
4:18 *GAMO VARMINT!* haha Interesting how quite a bit more energy did not give that much more penetration even with the same caliber You made that gel block with gelatin? I am too cheap for that haha Interesting test!
The PD threw it away, but I scavenged it, lol 😂. 😉👍 What I gathered out of the whole test is, FPS/FPE is more important for less drop over distance. FPE when you're shooting at close range with the difference is only being few FPE, it does not really matter that much. 12 FPE to 15 FPE is only 3 FPE difference. I guarantee you, this is something the marketers will not want to show people. But people that shoot their spring piston rifles, would be much better generally, dialing back on the energy to have a smoother shooting rifle.
@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 id rather have an accurate 12fpe rifle than a messy/hard to shoot 20fpe rifle for sure! The Gamo magnum GR springer (offered in the USA only I believe) seemed awfull to shoot 😅 A heavyer pellet will keep more energy apparently but will also have a bigger curve...make .177 great again!
@@LowkeyAirgunner One of the problems with more powerful springers, is most of them do not have enough weight to settle them down, because they are built with synthetic stocks. My HW80 22 is a heavy rifle, but extremely accurate and powerful. It is shooting right under 22 FPE. I watched Airgun Angie shoot the Gamo Jungle Magnum 22. There's a few problems with that situation. The rifle is way too big and way too powerful for her. Every time she shot, it kicked her like she was shooting a shotgun and was probably causing some confidence issues. It can be hard to relax when you're being drilled very hard in the shoulder every time you shoot. Lastly not to be mean, I don't think she is a very good shooter, especially with springers and especially with super magnum springers. I was very tempted to buy that rifle but I knew that something that was more in between like my Gamo Whisper Fusion Mach 1 22 was going to be an easier shooter, even though it is putting out 23 FPE. I still would like to try that Gamo Jungle Magnum and see if I could do better than Angie. I fully believe that I could do better than her.
@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 Cool vid Chuck. I agree with you about Angie. But that just adds to her charm. She's cute. I have the GR- Magnum, in .22, I shoot open sights. I took the big cheek piece off. It looks weird, but it's my favorite gun. I love that gun. Maybe with out a scope, I don't have to worry about getting smacked. I just hold it loosely and let it do it's thing. Cocking it, is the only difference. It never hurts me. Love the stock on it. Like I say, it's my fave! Got another in the mail yesterday. Will try to detune to around 19-20 fpe. and scope it.
Most days are windy 🌬️ in South Dakota. If I waited for days that were not windy, to get out and fish or shoot my air rifles I wouldn't get out very much at all, lol.
I killed a goat with the gamo mach1 whisper 1250 at about 15 meters. just a fyi. 1 shot, drop dead
What pellet did you use?

My hw80 is right up to the UK legal limit (12 ftlbs) and is a great rabbit taker right out too 30+ yards.
