What type of living wage do you deserve if you have no formal education or specialize skillset? You really think you're getting a livable wage with no college degree?
@@ocampbell1954 What an insane concept. A "livable wage" should be the *bare minimum* for any full-time job! What's the point to working a job if you can't support yourself? You should get more money if you bring more value, sure, but to suggest one should work all week and still lose ground is nuts.
@@epbrown01 You do realize certain jobs (fast food, retail, bagging groceries) aren't careers right. Those are jobs kids in high school worked when i was in high school. Not once did i ever thing that was a career. You were looked as a failure if you did those jobs as an adult.
Yea especially those investment bankers whine a lot about how hard their working life is when all they do is work till 1am to work on a ppt correcting minor editing issues and networked at a club
I quit my job because I didn't have any support from my direct supervisors at the main office. I would do overtime and not get paid for it correctly. I didn't do overtime on a regular basis, but when I did, it was a hassle to get paid correctly even though I clocked in and out and sent my overtime hours into payroll. They also pulled the people working at my site without telling me and send people to train without telling me. The last straw was when my mother died and I had to fly out for the funeral and they didn't want to approve the time off. I can imagine that there are millions who are treated similarly and after being treated like I was, people just can't take it anymore and quit.
My condolences on the death of your mother. I worked at At&t in Dallas TX several years ago. A young woman, a contractor, had a mother who was on life support. She had begged At&t to take time off work. I'm guessing they kept refusing. She finally sent an email to the entire office begging to go see her mother before she passed. She only made $12 an HR and was the mother of a small son. So she was the sole caregiver. It was cruel she had to beg to see her saying mother.
I quit last month. I had been repeatedly asked for help and I was adamant about not being trained to take on yet another task. I couldn’t eat or sleep. Every time I thought about what I had to do I would have heart palpitations and developed bad anxiety. Useless weekly meetings and After a nasty email was sent to multiple directors about my department I had enough. I’m nervous because I don’t have anything lined up but I’m getting my peace back. I can breathe.
Although the pandemic brought untold suffering to many, it also has led many to awaken to the realization that we can all be, have and do whatever we want.
yes, because you can have and do whatever you want simply for existing. wealth provides options; the greater the wealth, the more options you have. but don't stop believing you deserve something for nothing!
You should not wish for UBI. That would be a calamity. The instant UBI hits, we will see hyperinflation. Instead you should wish for more housing, reduced medical care costs and better working conditions.
Believe me, employers are not typically loyal to their employees, so why should employees be extra-loyal to their employers beyond doing their job well within the job description? Secret (from a great Scott Adams book): one of your duties (to yourself) as an employee is to keep an eye out for your next (better) job.
Tired of no raise for eleven years and, if you ask for a raise, are told "you have options", meaning you can leave. Never promoted and always did the manager's work, while he played video games and smoked cigarettes all day. I quit with no notice, cleared out my office and headed home. Traffic on that last day was stopped and I faced another three hour drive home. I had to allow five hours a day for commuting. Glad it's over and Best Decision I Ever Made!
I feel like back in the day companies offered living wages, pensions, days off to live life, etc. Then business changed to where you had to show growth and profits every quarter or lose your job. And paying the absolute minimum, without care that the person can afford basic life needs with that money. The top of the company used to get paid more, but not this astronomical increase from everyone else. People are seeing their worth. Breaking their backs for someone else is not worth it.
back in the day companies were much worse IME. some companies haven't changed. it's fine, many US companies are busy racing toward mediocrity through virtue signaling. As long as these companies have income streams and cash reserves they can last awhile as they lose talent...
Also changed when customers demand for 24/hr access came at the cost of fellow humans having to suffer through those shifts that normally everyone had off
True. Companies offered a lot of perks years ago, so employees were faithful to the company, worked hard for the company, and spent their whole life with the company, and were proud of it. Nowadays, even if the company were to offer perks, it doesn't matter to employees because we're living in the most extremely narcissistic "me me me" culture, everyone wants what they want, and they want it right now. A little bit like a nation of babies, whining and crying for food, clean diaper, etc. As a result of no one wanting to work unless it's pleasureable, everyone is being affected, from the wealthiest to the least wealthy, and the economy is suffering radically, and will get worse.
COVID was the biggest wake up call for many of us. Our value, our values. We realised what’s important and decided that we wouldn’t compromise our health or personal relationships any longer. Great video Erika!
I was blocked from any unemployment. I’ve faced homelessness! The business is now changing the horrid , abusive , management! Great employees make a business! It’s time that employers recognize great employees!!
This video made me even more comfortable in my decision. Thanks😁 I just quit my job but I haven’t found a replacement for it yet. I still have a month before I actually stop working but I’m not scared 😉 I finally know my value. That’s what comforts me
Yep I quit my job recently after they tried putting me for float and capping my hours at 40 per week. I'm sitting here seeing that I can make twice as much with staffing jobs working less hours making more money while I go to school and work on my business and focus on my family. Win-win all around for me
I work for a world class company. The nonsense there is staggering. The potential to make things easier for the workers and fix things that aren’t working are simply being ignored despite the numbers of unhappy workers. It’s a struggle to get out of bed only to face another day there. My health has deteriorated, crying for reasons and no apparent reasons is a regular thing. I’m there to accomplish some financial needs, and while they pay well enough and I have the option to stay longer, as a nomad with freedom to roam when money is available, the situation is untenable/unsustainable for me so I have decided to take early SS in July so I can leave and figure out next steps. This job takes nearly all of my energy and even some of my joy. I’ll last as long as I can and then color me outta there. I deserve better and so do you❣️
Not being told when we can piss. Using your own bathroom. Eating on their time and having to stuff yourself in less than 30 minutes. Commuting waste of time, stressful and unnecessary huge car expense.
WHAT?! people are getting tired of being treated poorly while being worked to death?! How are CEOs going to keep collecting multimillion dollar bonus checks?! 😜
A LOT of us are dabbing in the starting our own businesses part right now, even as just sole proprietor. I've just started my own LLC and am looking forward to launching soon. Even if it is just side income.
Time is the main factor for me, I'm currently working Full-Time and I have zero free time to do anything else when I finally get home. I'd rather be working part-time and have an extra day in the week to do anything that comes up around the house or just to set aside a day to workout and do my favorite hobbies.
Great video Erika ...you hit so many great points ..At 54 yrs old & 26 yrs as a Registered Nurse, life evaluation is a constant thought ..it's been rough in my field ..I have cut back ... Passing on your videos to family & friends ...Proud of you for learning , living & re formulating your value to yourself & career choices ..Bravo !
You summed up the rat race quality of life issue. One blessing from Covid unintended by lockdowns and layoffs. Great to see people freeing themselves from the madness of modern post industrial life as we transition into the digital age.
This type of post makes me ❤️ you, thinking you to be a very compassionate understanding person. It’s not all about work ethic, but more about life is finite. We only have so much time. Quality of life is more important than work. Productive contribution is a part of quality of life - not it’s main purpose for us 60- 80 hour a work-weekers!
People got a chance to breath look up and look around and take stock of their lives. They realized they were being taken advantage of and decided that they deserve better.
Thank you for this video dear Erika. This is what I was looking for. I quit my traditional university (for which I used to need three hours on the go) to study digital marketing from the comfort of my home and I am more than happy with my decision. I think my possibilities of finding a job in 2022 after that diploma are as high as with a traditional degree or even better. I am now looking forward to quiting my normal part-time job because it is in the education sector and no one cares about our health.
This is very real. People are choosing work life balance. Working from home has been a blessing and I honestly don’t know if I would be able to go back. I just started documenting my journey. Even though I like my job it would be nice to know that I financially have the choice to leave.
It's very interesting to watch this great resignation occur. I'm actually writing a couple of scripts for a few videos about navigating the wage shortage in the engineering industry and getting paid what they are truly worth. Thank you for sharing your videos Erika, always great information!
Now people have more options than before. No one would stay in a corporate job if doesn't feel appiciated or valued as a person. The video that you made for quitting your job was the one that made me subscribe to your channel. 👍
Have you noticed that the people in the video in the first few seconds were under the age of 50. If these businesses really wanted to hire people they could hire senior citizens who could use getting extra money for supplementing their retirement income and most don't come with extra baggage that companies have to deal with.
I was noticing thru time I wasn't seeing you on here I know I have been busy and I know your busy but I was hoping that you didn't end up getting sick so happy to hear you and see your smiling face the medical people the nurse's are having a terrible time trying to do their job taking care of sick people it's heart breaking because most of these people wanted to be nurse's to help people that now is turning into a nightmare for them I hope for you and your family to stay safe and healthy thru these uncertain times. ❤️
The main reason why companies were able to get away with this for so long was because of greed. And having the media help them perpetuate the mess about unions. That’s the truth For some of these corporations.
I quit my job back in May because wage slavery sucks! It's time for the politicians to end taxes and just rely on a bottomless budget of renewable digital currency. Then they can fund the automation of all the jobs that nobody wants to do and either give us the money we need, or just give us access to things without a price tag.
This video inspired me to create a video about the great resignation. It took me about 6 months to create this on top of my full-time job, setting aside at least 4x of 1 hr workout per week, cooking healthy foods that take hours to prepare, rejecting so many night outs just to spend more time pursuing my passion while having so many people discourage me from creating meaningful videos online like this channel. As you can tell, personal development isn’t a joke because there are so many sacrifices to be made, which are often uncomfortable but knowing that there are also so many like-minded individuals who have passion for becoming a better version of themselves each day and who are willing to show support makes me more motivated to keep pursuing my passion for creativity and intense desire to provide as much value as I could. When I was a kid, all I wanted was to have a career that pays well so I can buy whatever I want but now that I’m grown up and went through tons of setbacks from losing tons of people in my life, getting lost in the world with full of life traps, being ridiculed for pursuing my dreams, having so many people tell me that I’m merely wasting my time creating a meaningful content online, and so on, I can say that long-lasting happiness can’t be bought or earned because it comes from within us.
I used to work in retail and restaurants. The one restaurant wanted you on call 24/7 but didn’t want to pay you overtime and cut hours if you were close to getting overtime. Also hated working holidays like Christmas. I have kids and I want to be there.
The trouble with the great resignation is, as we have seen here in Georgia, the employers then turn to their bought and paid for politicians who then make the non work environment too uncomfortable for some low to mid range wage earners to suddenly no longer have that free time for linkedin (when they're not dealing with the data breach of the week from LI) indeed the only lifeline which we are not hearing enough from are the various Legal Aid Societies who can pay enough attorneys to bring enough suits against local govs and abusive employers to force them to leave those "old ways" behind. At the moment employers are looking at this current job market as a storm they have to weather rather than a new world they have to adapt too.
Imagine their surprise when they figure out we are not robots, and not going to complete with robots. My sympathy will always be with a human being, not a robot.
... please, tell me more about the situation in Georgia. I live here in Georgia, but don't know where to find reliable news on how Georgia businesses and politicians handle the situation. Oh, and if you got info on how other states are handling this, that'd be grand too. :D
Thanks for this great video, Erika! I can definitely relate, I recently quit grad school for reasons similar to why so many people are quitting their jobs.
Hi @@arobertsonian , it really depends in my opinion. In general, I think most people shouldn't go to grad school to be honest. Most academic graduate degrees like MA, MS, PhD, and so on do not translate directly to high paying jobs. On the other hand, several professional degrees like MBA, MD, and JD can and often do. That said, not everyone who pursues a graduate or professional degree will complete their degree, and not all who complete their degree will have a successful career. Money and careers aren't the most important things in life, and students who want to make a real impact in an academic field like zoology, medical research, philosophy, etc. and aren't worried about money may thrive in grad school. I hope this helps! What do you think?
What you described at a law firm, is also retail. Ridiculous. Customers came in with gifts for working through the pandemic and we were told we would be fired.
Without burnout on the rise, it is interesting to see how few companies are offering employees flexibility and support. Having financial freedom and financial well-being can give peace of mind to many employees.
Amen on checking out of the toxic work culture. ..... I felt like i was being treated as if i was in a 3rd world country with a cruel dictator....for way to long. This is America
I did quit my corporate america job in 2017 and shutdown my salon business october 2021 cuz I make a living with stress free mindset from home. My monthly dividends pays my bills and I don't work with entitled people or the stress of overworking. I stopped being a cash cow employee & now I create contents I want and use my time the way I want...
Individuals better make a TON of money and save it. The fewer and fewer people paying into the system means less available for medicare, medicaid and social security here in the US. Will be interesting to see how things play out for the next couple generations.
Lmao! Most of us never had or never were going to get that in the first place. Hell anybody even near my age knows we wont have any social security to rely on when we get old
we really need to change the ways we work nowdays. Less usless meetings, usless emails, unmeaning trainings ppl just trying to get pass without even read any of it. If you took a vacation for a week, there are over 1200 emails waiting for you to read, and there is ur boss, asking you if you prepared the meeting tomorrow, and NO! I have not finished reading my emails! no complain of my boss asking me trying to notice me the meeting. Because managers has more emails to read to.keep up too. it is just not most efficient way to work now days. I would of dream one Day you can just do one thing at work from.begging to.the end without interruption. I do like what I do, but wishing for a ideal healthy working environment with REAL life job balance
Yeah I definitely get being frustrated in a toxic work environment doing mindless task,, but shuffling paper forwarding messages and making phone calls is an easily replaced worker ,, real work skills that take at least several years to develop are not easily replaced , the corporate world is a mindless, humanless world that is only based on numbers, so sorry kids that's where the phrase " It is what it is " comes in, unless you have skills that cannot easily be replaced I would not advise quitting every job thinking one day you will find one that will treat you with all the respect you imagine you deserve , just a thought .........
I really hate the difference between Gross Pay and Net Pay. When I was looking for an apartment my gross pay was 38k a year, but net Pay was 26k a year. Because of gross pay I did not qualify for a low income apartment. I could qualify for regular as a single income person. But paying for that on top of normal bills with my net pay is a huge pain.
I work so hard and last year paid 96k to California taxes. If I lived in a non income tax state I would have that money. I need to move out of California.
This video is amazing! This is something I have been trying to explian, but failed to explained due to my bad explaining skills. I'm gonna share this video whenever I want to explaim this in the future.
Pandemic truly helps people realize what is important in our life. Not money but time for family, health, etc. So if employers cant provide these, it's time to find more reasonable options/opportunities.
The 80's were successful and full of opportunity. The 90's brought competition with Japan, then massive globalization of the workforce AND MANAGEMENT. the times of camaraderie and respect were gone, cheaper was better absolutely.
I definitely can relate to that every time I depended on my job before they always fired me so I learned over the years to do everything for myself and just make a RUclips videos and grow on RUclips and work for myself and be around people that actually value you
The real life is not on RUclips. Thus it depends on everybody if it is wise to live the life in reality or in the cloud. Anyhow the live is ending in reality.
Thinks for this video..I quit my job before 2x if I quit for the 3rd time it could be the last time if I find something better payed job or start up business..nice to see you uploading again.
This is great but how many of these ppl are actually doing something better or collecting unemployment? Alot of people just quit due to unemployment giving them more money.
Hi Erika, is it legal to use google images in youtube videos, tiktoks etc? Is there any alternatives like different websites to use. Thank you for all that you do!
I'd recommend people look up the late David Graeber's works on "Bulls**t jobs" for an anthropologist's analysis of similar ideas. Can't include links or the actual title because of the curse word in the title it seems.
The cost of living in the Washington DC area has gotten higher. Many young people or post millennials don't want to work minimum wage or even above 17 dollars.
Employers are "struggling" to hire employees because they refuse to pay a living wage. There's no labor shortage--there's a wage shortage.

I really want to quit. Over worked no raise. Inflation is crazy.
I want my own business!!
Yes, I just quit my job due to toxicity.
Thanks for this great video, Erika! I can definitely relate, I recently quit grad school for reasons similar to why so many people are quitting their jobs.
Do u recommend grad school in all honesty?
All of this stems from greed. The need to want more than what’s needed to survive, sadly
💯 Facts
Amen on checking out of the toxic work culture. ..... I felt like i was being treated as if i was in a 3rd world country with a cruel dictator....for way to long. This is America
Great resignation can also be termed as great realization
Hell anybody even near my age knows we wont have any social security to rely on when we get old
This one spoke to me. Well done, Erika.
Great points Erika - I definitely appreciate the thorough breakdown
I remember watching your first I quit video. Lit that fire for me to try and find a way to earn “alternative” income to the 9-5.
we really need to change the ways we work nowdays.
The difference between gross pay vs net is taxes. Don't like it? Move to another state.
Thanks for the Great content, Erika!
I work so hard and last year paid 96k to California taxes. If I lived in a non income tax state I would have that money. I need to move out of California.
Thank you Erika for being here hear motivate me inspire me thankfull and fortunate honorable 💎✨
Love it as I head into work for more over time!
It isn’t that people don’t want to work! The problem is horrible, abusive management! 🎉
The 80's were successful and full of opportunity. The 90's brought competition with Japan, then massive globalization of the workforce AND MANAGEMENT. the times of camaraderie and respect were gone, cheaper was better absolutely.
Bro, this is so true .
Nice video Erica! Very informative ! I have been reconsidering my career path now for the last couple of months and have been seriously changing it !
I love your channel; it has added so much value to my life, sincerely. Thank you
I'm quitting too.
Thank you for this video. I want to quit my 9-5 so badly, but don't know how to make the money I need to live off. Please help
OF?
This video going to blow up great work 🔥💯
But not everyone is also qualified to work from home. We also do need people to work at restaurants/stores or what will we have left? Nothing!
I love your RUclips channel! You are literally so relatable and smart and being points I’ve been thinking about for a while.
Not nobody wants to work. More like, "Nobody wants to work for YOU."
BINGO
Personally, I've been pushed out of jobS (!) and lost work due to baseless mandates. Not my fault, not my decision.
Another solid video Erika 👌 So much truth in this!
Thinks for this video..I quit my job before 2x if I quit for the 3rd time it could be the last time if I find something better payed job or start up business..nice to see you uploading again.
Hey Erika, your back !!! Did u settle in spain??
Alot of people cannot "work from home."
what do they do for money? So when they quit, what do they do?How do they live?
I quit too! Best decision ever.
I’m giving my current job about a year and a half. If they don’t wise up to remote work then I’m leaving
Wow this is amazing I always saying this 💪🏼💯
I'm a lawyer and thinking about quitting my job too.
Awesome video ERIKA. Thanks for sharing. Very informative. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible day. Much love. Hugs
Bravo! What you've described and what IS happening reminds me of a song by Twisted Sister called We're Not Gonna Take It. Check it out.🔥🔥🔥
This is great but how many of these ppl are actually doing something better or collecting unemployment? Alot of people just quit due to unemployment giving them more money.
"We may explain success mainly by one word and that word is WORK!" - Frederick Douglass
Hi Erika, is it legal to use google images in youtube videos, tiktoks etc? Is there any alternatives like different websites to use. Thank you for all that you do!
It’s the toxic environment everywhere.
I also quit. Job should make us feel secured and not anxious, pressured or suffocated.
That’s not an employers responsibility.
Why do we always talk about JUST office jobs? Why not fast food? retail? Mechanics? Labor jobs?
I'd recommend people look up the late David Graeber's works on "Bulls**t jobs" for an anthropologist's analysis of similar ideas. Can't include links or the actual title because of the curse word in the title it seems.
Sounds great but can anyone explain how these people pay their bills?
Its not just people quiting, its also a huge number of layoffs in the country.
The cost of living in the Washington DC area has gotten higher. Many young people or post millennials don't want to work minimum wage or even above 17 dollars.
First few months of remote work I definitely worked way more. Boundaries are way harder when you have to set them yourself :p
In my area of northern virginia a lot of grocery stores like harris teeter can't hire cashiers. Serious.
It's true you spend more time at a job than your family all those years of working then retirement and death.
Employers don't want to understand or renew their models resulting on people quitting.
i work for myself now ( since 2010) : I feel much better!!! :)
