I've been trying to figure out getting the grill off for ages. Thanks for the demo. Most helpful.

Nice. Thank You for this. Knowing that microphones are very delicate and shit is made with inviso-clips, etc. I didn't know where to start. Like modern cars - once you KNOW how to disassemble/assemble something, it makes sense and is "easy/easier" from that point forward...But, trial and error usually leads to learning how to do it while breaking it. Now, I won't bust my SM57 while learning how to take it apart! Thanks again.

Tip all microphone screw threadings should all have a bit of Marine grease so that no rust or humidity will damage the threads. This is also a tip for all microphone stands and screw threads as well as accessories like mic isolation holders. I took apart all my condenser and dynamic mics and added Marine grease to all threads. All mics now come apart smooth as butter for cleaning later.

I just did this to a 60s-vintage 545. The internal pop filter returned to the earth with one squeeze, lol. The cap clip is the same, except that where the middle part is bent into a point on the 57 in your video, this old thing had a notch bent outward to engage the (square) hole in the cap (the hole that holds the ends in mine is round, tho). I also managed to get the sticker off and back on _carefully._ The ends didn't want to stick back on, so I dabbed 'em with 91% rubbing alcohol and pressed down...so far, so good!

Thanks, very useful. A few years ago I broke my SM57 trying to dismantle the grill without the know-how. Too bad for the music, which is very distracting at least for someone who is not of English mother language, like me.

Felt like I was going to break it. I gave up. Guess removing the grille isn't in the cards for me. Ridiculous that Shure wouldn't make it screw off like the 58...

When taking it apart, I don't think it really matters which chip hole you push on.

this is a bad advice clip mainly because it leaves out critical parts, like the sticker is ruined or stretched and the damage that can be easily done. if you do this numerous times maybe....but I would not recommend this unless you practice on a broken one or dont give a shit if the sticker is ruined and the mic gets ruined.
