Diagnosing and Taking Apart a Shure sm57 Microphone

- This is a rare instance of a perfect condition Shure SM57 randomly dying at a gig. In this video, I dive into the problems and learn a few things about the SM57 on the way. The SM57 is a very good mic and known for its rugged construction, that being said, they obviously do fail from time to time, and this video shows a problem that has developed that basically renders the microphone ready for the trash bin.
I just fixed one of mine that had a similar problem that occurred after a drop. When I removed the capsule, I could see that one of the hair thin wires was touching the metal nut and shorting it out. I took a toothpick and gently pulled it away from the nut and now it is working.

i'll try this fix. dropped my sm57 by accident recently and hasn't been working since then
hello i also have same drop and dead problem ..and also i see the little hair thin wire u mentioned,, but it seems to be touch de metal part original? what should i do ?
it was the phantom mic cable wire cutting fiend. I've had a problem with that little swine several times. Tonight I attempted some extra percussive sounds and plugged in the trusty old sm57, only to find the wire inside the SLR was severed. Not quite as bad as turning up for a field recording vocal session, only to find a wire inside the sm57 was cut. I had to perform the entire thing with my thumb holding the circuit in place. On the front seat of a 25 year old range rover classic. Those were the days. Never again. Igot the number though. Bring back 'Lover lover', priority one, all other priorities are rescinded.
