ALL VIDEO EXAMPLE CLIPS SHOULD SAY S-LOG! I confuse the two because they're so similar, and just copied and pasted the captions for the footage scenes my bad!
Here from Instagram. Just got my A7IV and it has been amazing for hybrid shooters. I love how quickly I can swap back and forth between photo and video with saved dial settings. Great content Jonny, really enjoying your stuff lately. Keep at it man!
Just ordered the A7 IV after being on a "real" camera hiatus since the Canon 70D. This was reassuring to watch - great video! Stoked to start shooting with this camera.
I also owned this camera for 1 year as well, probably the most used camera in 2022 from holidays, St Patrick Day parades, Parkruns for 10 weeks, Football Tournament in July, Music events, Dance events, friends birthday party, loved the Mark 4 so much I just sold my R Mark 3 in exchange for another A74 yesterday mate.
I agree , I have been using Sony for over 15 years since they came out with the first Hybrid for video. Used Canon before that and PhaseOne Medium format. I sold my FX3 5 months ago and got the A7IV and love it. Do not really miss the FX3. The only advantage it had was 4K 120p and full frame 60p but I actually prefer the A7IV. Got a Tampon 17-28 and cropped 4K 60p is no problem for me.I actually like the A7IV more than the FX3. Do not know what it is, but I like more. I am a photographer and film maker and it is just perfect for both. Like you said, switching between photos and videos is amazing.
@@JonnyRoams any advice on what would pair well with a 24-70 2.8? Thinking of primes. Either a 35mm or 50mm 1.4 for family, street, and product photos.
Solid video. I've also been loving my A7IV over the last year. I have had a little more overheating issues during long interview situations, but it's definitely not too big of a concern for me. Autofocus is also fantastic. Especially coming from the GH5 lol I do miss the stabilization though like you said. Overall can't beat the value for the price.
Can confirm that mode switching on the R6 is SO ANNOYING. Absolutely loved this review dude! Even though I own canon, I still regularly shoot on Sony and always enjoy it. I’ve actually been considering picking one of these up and you may have convinced me 👀
Makes ZERO sense haha! I still love canon, and hope they bring out something with some minor QOL improvements, and maybe open up to Tamron and sigma 🙏🏼 appreciate you dude! I’ve seen some used a7iv going for around 2k which is wild tbh! Wouldn’t be a bad addition to your kit if I say so 😂
I also did not care care for using lenses with an EF adapter and have noticed it isn't discussed much. I've found that I tend to get more usage out of lighter lenses.
when processing in LR, did you ever see a difference in Sony's output colors from it's sensor? I use Calibration quite a bit, but really wondering if switching camera systems would drastically affect my workflow in post. I'm on a Canon 5D Mark II so literally anything will be better
Hey Jonny!! I’d love to get some advice! Im trying to decide between the Sony IV and the Canon Mark II! I am a hybrid shooter, doing photo/ video (50/50). The downside of the Sony being the 60fp crop and a higher continue burst mode. I’d love to get your thoughts and general advice!!
Do you currently own any Sony or canon glass? Canons burst is only better with electronic shutter which I personally wasn’t a fan of, as for the crop at 60fps for my own style of shooting it was actually beneficial as I preferred tighter angles for slow motion
@@JonnyRoams ah that is a good question! 6 years ago, I exhausted by Canon 500D haha and then moved into Film Photography for the last 6 years! I am now looking to purchase my first full-frame camera! And thank you for the heads up!! My guy tells me Sony! But the features on the Canon is turning my eye! Would you suggest the Sony?
@@hannaanbhatti5833 As you're on an even playing field for either I would suggest sony mainly due to the incredibly large lens options. However definitely try get to a store where you can test them out and see what feels right to you! You can't go wrong with either!
@JohnyRoams I just bought the A7iv too (after many canons and other brands also) only the problem now is that the Canon R6ii has got a seperate photo/video switch too. Also no crop in 60p and better and much faster ai autofocus... still recommending the A7iv? I can still return my Sony A7iv ;)
I’m unsure whether or not the mark 2 can still save custom video modes but I’d be VERY surprised if it can’t. Canon is still fantastic for sure however you’re still locked in to adapting lenses or the expensive RF glass. My recommendation would be try out the Sony for a bit, and maybe see if you can rent an R6 ii and see what feels better to you
Having now briefly used both, the rear screen is much nicer on the R6II. I really think this is being underplayed by Sony shooters, Ive used a few Sony cameras and they are great, but there are few things that are underplayed by users. The auto white balance isnt really useable (from a Nikon user perspective) plus auto iso really isnt the best. I believe the A7R5 has solved these issues, so ultimately the future for Sony is good.
4:22 have you heard of the R6 mark ii its supposed to be out soon, 4k60 no crop, 1080 180fps, better stabilazation 8 stops, photo/video switch, better rolling shutter, Also has a pre record function so you dont miss your shots, I think it has 40FPS Continuous shooting and a slightly higher resolution LCD screen they added focus breathing comp also the auto focus can detect cars animal and human without having to select them in menu like the sony"s
@@donovanpatron yeah the mark ii looks like what the mark i should have been! Definitely some nice improvements over the first, and seems to be more of a competitor for the a7iv
Sorry Jonny but the R6MII does allow custom settings individually for video and audio. And honestly I prefer the canon RF lenses. By the way, I own 2 FX30s as well to my R6MII.
Yeah in my video I talked about the R6 mark. Others also pointed at that fact about the R6II and I currently have one rented - planning on doing a video on it. So far really enjoying it. And I agree, the RF glass is nice
@@JonnyRoams It is a cool camera (the R6M2). I do love the FX30s and a7IV and I had the a1 which I loved. I just ended up preferring the RF glass, among other things because of the IS on the main ones. I don't understand why Sony hasn't built OSS into all their key lenses (24-70, 15-35). I had hoped that with the 24-70M2 they WOULD include OSS. But they didn't. :( Had they included it, I may still be on Sony. It is what it is.
I too switched from R6 back to Sony. I prefer the R6…by FAR! But I can’t afford RF or lenses, and I hated that IPB codec. Also the problem with the lenses…Sony owns majority of Tamron as a company (who do you think makes all of Sonys G-Master lenses). Of course canon doesn’t want Tamron producing lenses for the canon…they’d be funding the parent company which is Sony.
This is also why for Sony, Tamron produces awkward zoom range lenses. 17-28 instead of 16-35, 28-75 instead of the typical 24-70….because TAMRON makes the gmaster 16-35, 24-70, and 70-200. Sony won’t allow them to make a lens under the Tamron brand that’s direct competition
I am not convinced, maybe the real solution is the Lumix S5iix, I have been wanting the best hybrid camera one can get for $4000, only problem are lens options, especially since I live at the end of the world and not in Amsterdam, a place where you can get everything....
'A good mind to camera connection' The rear screens on Sony are the only let down for me. I don't think they are as good for judging exposure, plus I like to show clients what I'm doing from time to time, and the screen image isn't very inspiring.
the best hybrid now is lumix s52x. the sony does not look as good anymore. it has worse video specs , worse bitrates, no 6k opben gate.. i would see the sony more of a photo camera now as video features are very basic. lumix is where its at for hybrids and all this at a lower price

Very slight difference yes. I noticed in the color calibration sliders react differently but it was easy to adjust
