I totally agree. My deck screamed at me to buy it and I think that's a really important feeling to feel when buying something as personal as a tarot deck. A good solution for this is for example I'm buying my partners tarot deck for them because they aren't out of the broom closet. We had an important discussion on which deck called out to them the most, was this what they wanted, and is this the deck that's really calling you? If you are going to have someone buy a deck for you or you're going to buy one for someone else it's important to have that serious discussion about this topic. Sorry this was so wordy I'm just very passionate!

A funny story about tarot decks, my mom gifted me a deck and it would hide from me. I'd put it on the bookshelf in the same spot every single time and whenever I wanted to use it, I could never find it. One day, my mom found the deck behind her mirror with it's book (that had been missing for years and we had moved several times since it's been gone). I knew the deck was hers and not mine and set out to find my own. I immediately connected with the one I have now and I love it. It can be sassy at times or tell me things that are WAY in the future but I love the connection and relationship I have with it

That's so funny, I had a similar thing happen with a deck of mine! I'd found this deck online that I wanted and asked for it for Christmas but when my mom bought it for me it wasn't quite what I thought it would be (You can't really tell much about a deck from an Amazon description) so I was honest and said it wasn't what I was hoping it would be and my mom said she thought it was really cool. Well the deck decided it liked her better and started disappearing from my room and ending up in my mom's office!

Blowing out a candle to take a petition/wish to the divine has a pretty solid basis there. I've only recently started practising witchcraft properly, however I've had a set of tarot cards since i was about 9 years old and have been interested in crystals and candles and tarot and everything since a very young age, and there are lots of things that have made me realise that so i'm pretty much a born witch (for example, i dream of things before they happen, animals are really drawn to me, and I've always had pretty amazing intuition!!) I didn't know witchcraft was even a thing until recently, which is partly to the recent surge in popularity and coverage in media. There are definitely pluses to witchcraft and Wicca growing in popularity but some people definitely use it for trends and to be aesthetic. For example, some of my friends have said that they really like the witch aesthetic but i don't think they realise that it's so much more than that!!

Yes...there is much as to what one could term 'dabbling'. Which comes with misapprehensions, shallowly led popularity, consumerism, and even danger. In prior time 80% of our Collective was solitary, communication was sparse and even Covenboud usually had little contact beyond public celebrations or gatherings of actvistic intent. The usual was one store to supply most tools and books, along with supplies. That or old school mail order. So the Solotary had to hunt, and the Covenbound gathered. We found our own Ways. The recalatance to talk about our Practices with norms from fear and misunderstanding and just gosh darn privacy reinforced a serious and even Sacred mindset. The internet, social media, and the growing acceptance of our Faith and Craft in the normal world has stripped a bit of the vibration and feeling of Mystery and Sacred belief. I mean, there are some in the Witchtoc community who think they can Curse the Moon and Sun, to battle the Fea, to make the Gods walk away from Humanity. That's kinda....dumb, in my thinking. The thing we must do to work against this miscasting is clear. Just like our Lady here, the Elders, to me 1thats about at least ten years of Practice, must rise to any and all opportunity and as gently as possible correct and supply Wisdom as we are Called to do. Its an exciting time. The Goddess returns to Worshipers, and the Balance shifts seeking Equilibrium. Elder has become a role to take up, once more. It's as powerful an Age as it is fearfully fragile. Humanity stands on a brink with permutations beyond its ability to apprehend the full depth. The Chinese curse of hoping your enemy lives in interesting times is valid. Good Luck with Thine...may your Eternal Ones find you Worthy and in Joy...LC, SoH

    • @luvahadowsdolls

Yes. I feel that because its commodification is getting so widespread, it has the risk of being cheapened if it's over-sanitized for general consumption. It's not inherently bad if you like to buy a lot of witch-related stuff, but if too much of your time is spent thinking "buying this will make my craft automatically better and I absolutely have to buy a list of things right now" then you maybe need to pull back a bit. Spiritual growth, in my opinion, requires a lot of work. Enjoyment is very much a huge part of it, but growth also comes from challenging ourselves to explore other parts of ourselves and our path, not all of which comes easily.

J T so true. The opposite was the case for me, in fact. I have a deck I've tried to learn with for years but it never happened and frustrated me, making me think I was rubbish at tarot. At a local spiritual fair, I recently bought an oracle deck I fell in love with because the images appealed to me. First time I used them, I could read them. Then I realised, the tarot deck had been bought for me by my ex's mother and she is a very toxic person. I wasn't struggling with tarot, I was struggling with the energy of her spite and nastiness. I still have them because I love the deck, and hopefully will find a way to cleanse them of her.

    • @runway5338
      @runway5338 3 года назад +12

I can relate to this. I’ve been on both ends of the spectrum. One of the biggest issues I have w/ getting an instant answer is that it doesn’t give the person time to think for themselves. They haven’t been able to ponder, reflect of their own experiences and knowledge to be able to come their own conclusion. Which is so important in growing as a person and further expanding our minds. On the other hand, we shouldn’t drive ourselves crazy looking for our own answer.
I guess the point I’m trying to make is that we need balance. From receiving an answer from others (especially right away), and going on our own journey to look for the answer ourselves. We can’t do everything ourselves, but we shouldn’t become lazy either w/ the help of others. Of course, there’s also the exception of objective truths w/i the secular world in which, unless *we’re scientists, we can just easily look up to learn.

To this, I would also add that many don't understand BALANCE. If you try to create too much "positive" energy, you cannot have it without negative, or you create a log jam, if you will, of negative, which IS going to burst at some time. My Indigenous ancestors always talked about balance, and recognizing you are part of nature, not above it, or controlling it.

depends on if you mean "cannot" as in unable to or "cannot" as in refuse to. Cannot as in unable, well ofcourse! it's simply about knowledge of what you're doing. I would not however assume that if someone was light centered or heavy that they were not powerful or knowledgeable.

I think a good rule for me while practicing is to not do any spells that will manipulate others. I would never do any spell that affected someone unless they asked me to. Example: Let’s say I wanted a family member to stop stressing so much. I wouldn’t cast a spell to stop them, as maybe them stressing will have a positive effect in the end. However, I might cleanse and purify a room in my house so that they could have a safe space where they can clear their mind. I am not creating an effect, I am creating a situation where the desired effect COULD take place, but it is still the person’s choice.

i always softly blow out my candles as it is just what I personally believe is respectful to the elements, having one element mingle with another, air with fire, is I believe more respectful than snuffing as it feels like I'm suffocating it. I also will blow it out sharply if I am doing any baneful magick or banishing because it feels fitting. this is just what I believe personally and I love and respect all other kinds of practice.

    • @isadore7221

This is exactly what I do. My thinking is that elements mingle and cancel out each other everywhere in nature. If you don't want to be disrespectful to the elements, using that logic, why light the candle in the first place? You would be cancelling earth (wax and wick) with fire. It just doesn't make much sense if you think more about it.

It’s so funny that you said that about the 1001 spells book. It was one of the first spell books I got as an adult because my mom had a book that look really similar on her bookshelf when I was a kid and I thought it was the same one. I personally think it’s alright as a guide but I wouldn’t take it all at face value, it’s way too specific in its tools for my taste, I’m the queen of substitutions so telling me I need some super specific crystal isn’t gonna happen. But I’ve used it a great deal as a basis in making my own spells.

When I started my practice a few years ago, I remember going out and spending a stupid amount of money on various crystals and candles and oils and... none of them ever resonated with me. I became much more inclined to things I just found in the woods. Now, as part of my practice, I don't purchase anything (at least, not with intent of using it in my practice). I only use elements that "come to me" or that I find. Herbs from my garden, small gifts from my friends, natural elements I come across in my walks in the forest (feathers, nuts, shells, etc.) I like the energy of *~things that put themselves in my path~*. This process works so much better for me than trying to buy "the right elements" to be the "right kind" of witch. Not to mention, its forced me to learn a lot about the native flora and fauna of my area, which is very grounding and pretty cool. I'm the most annoying person to go on a local hike with now.

In addition to asking "why" also ask "do *I* need to?"
This isn't to try to find shortcuts, but if even you know "ah, yes, that's why people burn sage" down to the letter, if you're just wasting your energy on something you never required or connected with, you're just doing yourself a disservice. That may seem obvious once you have an established craft, but beginners aren't so certain. Some people just absorb the first few things that they see and go hard with it before ultimately becoming frustrated and abandoning it because it feels as wasteful as it is.
People will do this with Tarot, candle work, astrology and/or moon phases, herbs, candle work, crystals, and grimoires/book of shadows. By all means, research a topic and dabble in it, but CHECK WITH YOURSELF FIRST BEFORE GETTING TOO INVESTED. Make sure you're happy and interested in a topic BEFORE you swim too far out. Just because Sally the Elder Witch of the Coven who is on RUclips is making sour jars, doesn't mean that's what witchcraft is for you, you know?

"Just because something is natural, people assume it is safe." Think poison ivy, hemlock, stinging nettles... I honestly thought you'd find much worse than you did -- but the whole idea of short-form vs. long-form content is a major factor that often gets overlooked. My problem with TikTok is that it's *so* rushed by its very nature that it's like trying to carry on a conversation about metaphysics 10-12 words at a time, whereas RUclips videos like yours are more akin to a couple of old friends sitting in comfy chairs with mugs of hot tea for the evening, or maybe even attending a really interesting lecture hosted in a hall with plush seats and on-demand food service. :-)

On the topic of not needing fancy etsy tools for magic: I had this crazy experience during the full moon after Yule where I tangibly experienced energy and aura manipulation and astral projection, to the point where I literally created a window into the place where our ancestors exist and had to stop suddenly so I wouldn't vomit. I just used my own body and instincts, like my hands were tingling so hard from it. I even experimented with a wand and an athame but found that for me they were too set in the physical world, so they had a hard time interacting with the energy and everything on the other side. If there's one thing I wish every witch knew it's that magic is pouring out of everything and into everything constantly, like wind or a river, and you can focus it in subtle ways with tools etc but at the end of the day you have everything you will ever need with you always, and no pretty tool will give you more power than what's already inside and around you 🌻

I don’t know if it’s just me but I don’t like the term “baby witch.” It sounds kinda demeaning. Maybe novice or beginner witch is a little better. Of course if you like the term go for it, I don’t wanna tell people what to call themselves. But when I first started out I personally am glad that term wasn’t around yet.

I was very drawn to “witchy” things as a child, and that finally started to culminate around middle school. I have no idea where I got this from, by the way! At the age of 8 I would work a lot with plants and my own energy. Unfortunately as I got older my parents became more strict. I started to view witchcraft as something rebellious and dark. I started putting more effort to academics and sports and put little effort into any magical practices. I am no longer as religious, and I’m trying to challenge my inner notion that I was somehow “disturbed” when I was younger. Now I’m in college and I’m dating a Wiccan. She’s reminded me a lot of the world that I haven’t been a part of in a while. She’s been practicing for a while and knows so much more than me! I’m excited to learn more about witchcraft through more academic sources.

About putting crystals in your baths : I just put my crystals at the four corners of my bath together with the candles and plants I want to use to make a ‘net’ of energy so to speak. I love putting moon water and a couple drops of essential oil in my bath, but I don’t need the crystals to be in the water to give energy to the bath. Makes sense? I hope it does.
As for blowing out candles : it really depends on what you’re using the candle for. Last week my cousin had an interview for a job so I made a spell to wish her well and to send her positive energy to help her during her interview. I didn’t blow it out, but I let the wind blow out the candle. She lives on a different continent so to me and my intuition it felt right to let the wind take the energy with it to her. When I do things with candles for myself I usually don’t blow them out because I want the energy to stay here in my house, whereas that energy was meant for her so I asked the element of air to send it to her.
Okay, last edit I promise : I really don’t understand the whole rage behind buying things that are already finished products. Why would you want to buy a wand when you can go out into the woods, do research about the trees in your area and the correspondences. Pick out what kind of tree you would like to make your wand out of and go out to find a stick on the ground from that tree. I don’t like it when people break sticks off of trees, the earth didn’t give that to you, you can’t just take and take and take. So look on the ground for things the tree gifted. Maybe you find certain nuts on the ground depending on the tree. Maybe there are leaves that call out to you. Maybe there is a patch of wild flowers, and ask the earth if you can take a couple. Then go home and build yourself a wand. Spend time with the wood and shape it in the way you like, carve a rune into it for example. You can press the leaves to conserve them and laminate them to make little hangers you can hang off the handle. You can use the shell of the nuts to make a handle out of them by breaking them into small pieces and gluing them on. Or you could just use the bare stick. Maybe you already have a crystal that you think would be perfect for guiding energy out of your body into the wood to make a point out of, them glue the crystal onto the handle where it touches your palm. There are so many ways to get creative with the process and it’s so much more rewarding and spiritual than just buying something online. You made a wand which you already have an energetic connection to. You can’t be certain that when your pre made wand comes in the mail that you will have the same kind of connection to it. Just saying. Use nature’s gifts.

Part of the reason (I think) that witchcraft and wicca gets conflated is because Christians used to/still sometimes, think they witchcraft was "satanic" and in the late 90s - early 2000's, witches sought protection for their beliefs and practices (or just protection from legal persecution like losing custody, workplace discrimination, etc) under "religious freedom" laws. Wicca became a protected religion, was put in the U.S. military codes, etc... I think, in those instances "wicca" was used synonymously as the protected religion of witchcraft." Idk if it's changed since then, but "wicca" at one time was the only officially recognized and protected pagan or witchcraft religion (in the U.S.) so likely a lot of people called themselves "solitary eclectic wiccans" when they probably would have more accurately called themselves something else. But if you said you were a druid, you didn't get the same kind of protection.

There was this store (that is not there anymore) that sold tarot cards etc. I was instantly drawn straight into this store and went directly to this one deck of oracle cards. keep in mind, I've always liked the name Seraphina and have tried to find information about seraphims, my favorite stone is a seraphinite. I open the box of cards up and the very first card in the deck is an angel called "Seraphina". i instantly took that as a sign. Didn't look at anything else in the store, just went directly to the counter and bought the deck.
I have since lost this deck of cards and wish to find them since I moved house. I re-bought the deck but it just doesn't have the same feeling as the original one.

    Witchcrafts is not always spell.
    Intuition is important.
If you think that the item you’re creating is not going to work then I will say stop whatever you are doing cause the energy that you’re creating is not in sync with you. My parents told me not to summon deity cause we don’t know if we are strong enough to control the situation. Some deity will piss off if you don’t fulfill their needs an that will be trouble.

I use c@nn@bis in my witchcraft, and it's my #1 use of my moon water. Because using a water pipe includes air (breath), fire (lighter/match), earth (I will add herbs to my MJ as well, like roses or lavendar), and water. When I'm doing certain spells, meditations or rituals - this is one of my favorite grounding techniques, smoking it after casting my circle, focusing on my intention. I love to use Moon Water or Sun Water in my water pipe when i do this because I feel that when it matches those intentions or i'm drawing on the sun or moon for my practice, it ties it all in very nicely and adds wonderful energy.

  • @FFVison
    @FFVison 3 года назад +12

I love that "ask why" one. If you don't know why you are doing something that requires a level of your intention, but you are just copying someone else's work, is it your intention or the other person's that is driving your magic? It's a bit like learning to paint by following someone else's painting. Without knowing why you are using the strokes that you do, you will only know how to paint that one picture that was used in your instruction and it doesn't help you with learning the broader technique.
Your portion of this video where you were reacting to the witch's bottle reminded me of a personal anecdote. My girlfriend and I were at her house fairly late into the night and we were sitting on her back porch. We were drawing tarot cards for a little guidance, but we had lit a small black candle to ward off any negative energy. The candle was in a short glass (possibly crystal) candle holder. While we were drawing cards, we heard a very loud bang. The top of the candle holder split and broke in half. We kind of stopped drawing tarot and looking into the occult for a while. She has since moved out of that house.

    Ancestors tips:
    - ancestors are not all spirit guides!
    - If you want to work with ancestor guides, call out and see who comes to you.
    - Reaching out to a specific ancestor does not always insure you are truly getting the help you desire. Not every soul is in a position in their development where they can guide you well.
    - I began working with an ancestor spirit guide from the side of the family of someone who abused me as a child. This was a hard choice but she called to me and wanted to help work through our families karma. Ancestor guides can be amazing when helping with this type of karma release.
    - Trust your gut
    - often times ancestor guides are far older than relatives from your memorable history
    - know where they wish to help you and where you can open your heart to your own history.

I have the 1001 spell book. Its fine enough, but I do vet the information and try to make my own tweaks to it for what I'm looking for. I also note that quartz is a good substitute for most crystal requirements for spells. Also, my patron deity - Hecate - kind of hunted me down while I was ignoring all of her signs and eventually vetted that it was her and was like *"Well, okay then, I'm all ears."* I have a few deities, but I chose to work with them ultimately. I also typically bathe after my spells and rituals. I'm an Eclectic Witch (Cosmic, Green, and Kitchen magic) and I will also cook a good meal after most spells. It really helps to replenish my energy and mindset.

34:30 Sigil generator uses both planetary grids and the letter wheel from your sigil video. The bad thing is that the lines aren't varied when repeating a number or letter. The line lands on the same spot in each box every time, so you lose lines and points that way. The good thing is that it lets you repeat, not repeat, leave in, or take out vowels. You can also choose to show the grids, or not, and change the colors.

I learned a few things from this video, I have been practicing for years. One of the things about knowing the why is very important when you feel compelled to do something in your practice. I found if I am compelled to do something and I can't explain why I won't do it. Also I fully agree that you don't need a lot of items. I also have had spells backfire that were meant to help someone who didn't want me to help and for the longest time I didn't know why it backfired. It took actually talking to the person and them explaining that they didn't want my help to realize that was why. Had I researched more at that point I would have probably not done the spell. Good information for people in this video.
