  • I got the great opportunity to fly with my business partner, Tyson, in his M2. We used it to get to the North Woods of Maine for some R&R with some buddies (and conduct a good bit of business as well - first business trip in well over a year).
    It flies at around 400 kts and with the slight tailwind we made it the 1,650 nm from Eagle CO to Portland Maine in basically 5 hours of flight time (with a quick gas/food stop in Toledo).
    I'm not rated in the M2 (nor do I have my multi) so I got to work the radios and learn from Tyson as he showed me the ropes. It's a really simple plane to fly, at least when everything is working properly, and I got a real appreciation for how it shrinks the size of the USA.
    In this extended cut of the video I kept in more of the setup and systems management since I found it really interesting.

    Similar jump for my plane. Went from a PC12 to P300E. Operating cost is more but less hours per trip helps offset it some. Rarely went coast to coast in the PC12 but now anywhere in the country is easy with just a quick fuel stop. Being based in SFLA. Made it back from Vegas non stop with a light tailwind💪🏼

    How sad is it to see the ASCII codes on the checklist? Would it have been difficult for them to write a test to look for that sort of thing in the little text file they use to create the checklists?
    Someone should collect the full startup videos for these various starter level single-pilot turbine planes. I love seeing it from master on to taxi roll. I hope you are keeping the TBM.
    That was a ForeFlight development flight. Total write off.

      Those ASCII were from some bad edits that were made by the crew - so ignore those. Still loving the TBM!

    Is the G3000 checklist standard or did Tyson add it? I fly a C510 G1000 Nxi and have debated about getting the aftermarket one. Nice CRM guys. I rarely fly with a copilot but you guys made it look smooth.

    • @JasonFlies
      @JasonFlies  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! Pretty sure Tyson made those checklists using the Garmin tool on his PC and then put them on the SD card in the G3000

    Jason, what do you prefer between that and your TBM? We are looking at the Citation M2 or a TBM 900, 910, 930, 940. What would you recommend? PM me if able. Awesome video!

    • @JasonFlies
      @JasonFlies  2 года назад +3

      The M2 is certainly faster but the operating costs of the TBM are a good bit less. Additionally, the training/insurance requirements tend to be a bit more relaxed for the TBM. As for which TBM, it's just a matter of what avionics you want vs how much of a price premium you are willing to pay for them. Plus, the supply of planes might be a bit limited right now, so that might shape which you go with. Most 900s have the NXi now, so they are then very similar to a 910.

    • @JasonFlies
      @JasonFlies  2 года назад +3

      Ignoring the opportunity cost of the capital and the depreciation, I'd say the M2 is maybe twice the hourly cost of the TBM. ~700/hr for the TBM and more like ~1300 for the M2. That assumes more like 100-150 hours per year though, the cost per hour goes up with fewer of course.
