  • Was Talladega a good race?
A fuel-savings superspeedway race at Talladega sparks some debate between Jeff and Jordan, but there's no arguing over the importance of a Michael Jordan celebration for NASCAR. Meanwhile, the guys dive into the scoring pylon debate and talk about where TV commercials were excessive.

Again don't know why you watch, complaining about every race is silly.
No racecar driver drives 100% every lap.
Talladega has never been 100% throttle. The behind car has always been half throttle because of the draft.
Why drive 100% on lap 50.... Why?
Funny Nascar used to be, you can have this spot now I'll get it later, but now these two want them full throttle every lap.
I've been watching for 30 years, that was an awesome Talladega race...if your concerned about throttle % when they are running 3 wide, I don't know what to say, no matter where they go they can't run 100% going two wide.
    Don't get it.

people romanticize gen4 races but forget often times it also came down to track position, and fuel milage is not inheritly bad, but starts becoming a problem when people start saving fuel from the drop of the green flag, the aero package is fine but they need mix up (or straight up drop) the stages so they don't race to make it to the stage caution

Nascar at Talladega was about 193 minutes flag to flag with 58 minutes of commercials. 30%. 29 minutes of full screen ads during during green flag racing.

Yall talking about a driver with multiple wins making decisions on the last lap @ Talladega, remember... There wasn't a single driver in the top ten, coming out of turn four, on the last lap, that had a single win.
Agree, Jordan... Sandbagging in Nascar sucks.
Lol, tandem racing w COT was ridiculous. I remember when they figured that out, and it was the most disappointing race I'd ever been to up to that point @ Daytona.
I did find it interesting where the broadcast had to keep track of two separate "packs" of cars. It's a twist on the giant pack racing that Sr. always despised. But, pack racing seems to be the best racing on super speedways. Having different packs at different points on the track brings an interesting element, and one that I don't think is entirely terrible. The manufacturer strategies vs team strategies was a bit much tho. Are we going to see three packs w three manufacturers? No bueno.
The commercials and their timing is terrible. I'm going to go even lower than Jeff. High 40s low 50s,between 49 and 52.
Scoring pylons?! Daytona used to have a couple. They were incandescent bulbs. Like an old school marquee. Look at them now. They have rgb panels, like the giant signs in Vegas. The pylon is beautiful. Especially when the green flag drops. Daytona should be the model of what an awesome scoring pylon looks like.

McDowell was crashing before that 2nd block was ever attempted, we all saw that wreck coming. Problem with this style of fuel saving is that lug nut. Aside from all the the inability to pass with that tremendous spoiler. Single lug nut = less time spent in the pits. It becomes even more fuel saving because now LESS fuel has time to get into the car and it becomes a game of how slow can we go
(sidenote: I feel bad for you @Jeff Gluck, that co host is super annoying!)

I swear you guys are living on another planet the last few weeks lmao. The problem isn't that there's strategy. The problem is that it's so impossible to pass that they can run 20mph slower and it's still going to work out better than actually racing. The bigger issue though is that superspeedway racing now is hanging out for 4 hours, then wrecking and getting people hurt. No in between. It's a joke. Yet again, you guys seem like you'd be happier watching wrestling than covering motorsports. Actual racing at Richmond was bad in your minds, wreck fest at Texas and impossible to pass was good? And this was fine? For the last 30 laps not a single spot in the top 10 actually changed. The second they tried the whole field wrecked. Joke.
Edit: the scoring pylons were also an issue at cota. It was just not being used for most of the weekend. If you didn't have really good eye sight you did not know for sure who was running where.
