I used to have a hard time clipping off the extra seedlings - but I learned that it is not good for the plant when it is so crowded. I use the seedlings as garnish in salads. It is pretty much like the ever so trendy microgreens. Thanks for sharing! Looks like you will have lots of cabbage!
That is cool that you use a screwdriver also and that your Dad used the same one. That is probably another reason why you are so successful at gardening! You got the magic touch handed down.
Those cabbage seedlings look great. I'm a little surprised they germinate so well in a hot greenhouse. I sometimes have difficulty getting kale to germinate when its hot.
Best cabbage preservation option is fermentation, then put it in the fridge. Lasts nearly forever, especially when using whey from cottage cheese or Greek yogurt making. If you haven’t made cottage cheese yet, just take milk, put it in a sterilized jar and let it sit on the counter till it sours. It should separate into solids (chunk) and clear water. Then pour it off through a cheese cloth to keep solids (cheese) on one side, and the filtered liquid is your whey. Whey is a perfect preservation medium with a little salt thrown in. I’ve managed to preserve a whole head of cabbage at a time. All I do is remove the dense inner stem. No cutting, slicing it shredding. The leaves then become easy to remove to make the most delicious stuffed cabbage - I make a keto version and it’s out of this world.
We haven't had much success preserving it. I am going to try to blanch it and freeze some this year. If all goes well, looks like I'll have a few to practice on. Thanks for watching!
I germinated cabbage seeds but the green stem grew up tall and spindley like they were reaching for the light with a tiny set of leaves on the top. Not short and robust like yours. Now they are falling over and not looking good. Do you start them out with normal indirect light or shade? I do this without a grow light or a hot house - just in my kitchen or other parts of the house. My jalapeno seedlings have sprouted no problem. Thank you for your advice.
I have the same question to me they're not getting enough light and they are traveling up and they get so tall they're going to they're going to fall over and die that's my opinion
Lori cook Hi Lori. Cabbage can germinate at 45 degree temps and can over winter under snow and light ice. I have let my cabbage over winter but as soon as spring come they will or may start to form seed pods instead of a cabbage head. You should start cabbagee seeds around June or July 15 and allow them to grow under a light if possible for about 1 months unless you place them outside under a netting to protect them from the cabbage looper worm and other bugs. Come the middle of august place them outside in full sun but keep covered. Come October or late November you should have some cabbage
Markus Daniels My cabbage is doing great it did germinate I have loads in garden I put out first week of April. I will start more to put out for a fall crop along with more Cauliflower which I don't have good luck with I also put that out first week of April and just waiting for it to head up still nothing. I even made netted Hoop houses to keep the worms and moths out. crossing my fingers this year I will be successful!! Thank you again for your response..
FYI, fried cabbage is wonderful!!
Fry it as you would onions until golden brown. Add your favorite meat or whatever you like.
I spent my time finding for the best cabbage growing video ever but I found this the best
Great update. Always good to see the follow up video showing how things turned out! Mossy
Thanks for actually showing. Most videos just talk about it. I'm a visual learner :)

Brewin some worm tea in the back or compost tea?
When i transplant cabbage seedlings into a bigger 4 inch pot can I plant the cabbage a bit deeper since they got a bit leggy?
yes you can.
Would using home made compost to start growing them be good or not ?
it may be good. i have done it in the past and it work good. you can have a trail just to see compost vs potting soil
How mch.seed.do you plant in
Mine haven't germinated at all yet, I planted them on the 10th of January. I'm wondering if it's just warm enough?
