Thank you so much! Using the spinach containers is BRILLIANT! I have been struggling to find something deep enough to use and I was just getting ready to ditch the spinach container.
I noticed over 100 acorns turning into trees. I tried planting outside, but squirrels stole them. Watching videos, I grew some inside. Can't wait till spring!
Jag, you have demonstrated the exact opposite of what I've learned from The Dallas Garden School. I use 2 parts peat or coco & 1 part perlite for my growing medium. We never push down on that medium. Keep it loose. We never, ever water above, only water from the bottom up. We have to use shop lights here & we keep them extremely low, down to the tray & move up as they grow. We dome every tray & once seedlings arise, we remove dome. At this point we water using Kelp. I've never seen anyone take their seedlings outdoors. We wait until the hardening off period. You have a wonderful channel which I use constantly, but this video has me perplexed. Perhaps this is one difference between growing in CA vs. other states. Plus, where do you get top soil? We cannot find top soil or manure anywhere! They've taken all that away from us.
You do not need all peat and coco to germinate seeds, that's a very expensive growing medium. Potting soil mixed with coco works great and it has perlite. Yes bottom watering s better specially when seedlings are tender so you do not harm the seedlings, however when first sowing or right at germination, watering from above or bottom does not make a difference. I mentioned shop lights in the video. Doming is only really needed for leafy greens, not for okra, peppers, and other summer veggies. watering with kelp is similar to watering with compost tea. Moving seedlings outdoors depends on your region. If the location is sunny at atleast above 55F during the day, you can move the seedlings outdoors during the day only and they grow much stronger, this could be more doable in CA florida and southern states as oppose to colder regions. You can get potting soil from anywhere, i get it from Lowes. Hope this clears things up.
I always enjoy your informative content. You put all the puzzle pieces together for me. But wondering about your top watering. It’s not necessarily better to water seedlings from the bottom? Really curious!
We have a problem with fungus gnats. I lost many seedlings for a few years. Now I keep mostquito tabs in my watering bottles, which helped a quite a bit, but it’s not easy.
I use a product called Mosquito Dunks, also 🦟 Bits. Probably the same stuff! I sprinkle it on soil, and put a whole dunk in my watering can, it slowly breaks apart and treats that way. Still use yellow sticky traps because they're particularly bad up north. Usually only dealt with them for a week or two down south, idk what the issue is!
I need your advice, I think I’ve lost my seedlings during transplanting. I didn’t separate the seeds while planting. I plated all my seeds (all of one vegetable) in one pot. They looked amazing and …. All together. When I went to transplant them the roots were all tangled. I did my best to separate the individual seedlings without breaking the roots yesterday, today, they don’t look too good at all. Did I loose them? They were cucumbers, squash, green beans and sugar snap peas.
I have a question, I'm starting an indoor garden, but it's summer time with temps hitting as high as 110 degrees. Is it safe to leave the seedlings near the window or outside? If not, what are some alternatives? Thanks! I'm excited to give this garden a go.
Can you recommend a trusted heating mat and heat regulator, Jag? I checked your list but links to products aren't opening other than the few typed in. Thank you!
Amazon discontinued their affiliate image linking without any notice and now all my links are broken, also on many other people's blogs as well, these companies are rogue. Here is the link to heat mats I use amzn.to/3NYhpIj
I've grown many a banana plants in cold climates and seeds sprouting can take up to 11 months. It helps to use tropical smoke , which is sold in fused in piece of paper. You can also use gibberellic acid or brassillonide to break seed dormancy. There is also the practices os scarification and stratification. This is not necessarily a master class, it's a beginner class.
How are you supposed to take them out? It’s impossible without ripping the roots. Even if you push from the bottom it pinches roots. If you scoop it roots rip.
Neither, they are synthetic fertilizers and not good for the soil and your plants. I mention this in my Gardening Masterclass video ruclips.net/video/ze6EwERysbs/видео.html Use Compost, Manure, and These: Burpee 4-4-4 Fertilizer amzn.to/3sfu2qV Dr Earth 4-6-3 Fertilizer amzn.to/47BB0VK
@DaisyCreekFarms Thank you for helping me with these questions. I can not find potting soil, only potting mix. Is it okay to use the mix, or will that ruin it?
HERE is an innovative idea>>> A weed farmer in California (where else?) scavenged a few BROKEN commercial refrigerators from a scrap dealer. He fixed the inside light, cut the cord to the compressors and uses them for seed germination. He places his seed trays inside on growpads & the insulation to keep the refer cold, keeps it warm. WOW. Starting refer in a refer. Whoda thought? Reuse-Recycle-Repurpose just like any good hippie would. !
like the video but you dont have to press down the soil to get your seeds to grow. I have not had a problem with any of my seeds growing since I started gardening. It matter where you buy your seeds for the quality.
Pressing down prevents the seeds from drying out quickly. Also when seedlings grow, if you don't press, the soil crumbles when you take out the seedling, however if you press, the soil comes out like a nice block. A local farmer who is 78 now told me about this simple technique and i tried it and it is much better to press, try it out and see.

Great video. Seeds last longer than a few years. I have grown 7 year old seed just fine. FYI, some seeds do need light to germinate.

When the max day time temperature is above 55F (12C)
@@DaisyCreekFarms thank you very much, I have started seed in my house this year for the first so I'm a newbie
Can you combinate heat mat and grow light?
I couldn’t quite catch what fertilizer you used and the ratios?
