Love the water bottle with holes in the cap👏🏾💁🏽♀️
It is perfect for watering the seedlings. Thank you very much for your comment!
@@TowardGarden I saw that you where thinning seeds to one cell? What do you do with that extra seed. Potential new gardener asking 😊
I usually have enough seedlings so just toss them in my compost bin. Happy gardening.
Great video! I usually like voice overs but this was full of info and straight to the point! Thank you so much
Glad you like it. Thank you so much for your comment!
DONT HARVEST THE WHOLE HEAD. LEAVE SOME BOTTOM. THIS WILL REGROW 3 5 7 Heads
Thanks for sharing.
Do you mind elaborating a little bit? Where would u cut?
This is the reason I came to this video hoping to learn if it regrows

wow this was such a well done video, thank you SO much! just amazing. so inspiring and a joy to watch. makes me think even i can do it!
Yes, you can do it too, give it try! Happy growing and thank you so much for your comment!
My favorite food in summer is cabbage. I don't know how to develop it. Thank you for sharing. I will do it. I hope it will be successful. Have a good day❤

Beautiful, all cabbage are very lush...love it..
Love to hear it. Thank you so much for your comment!
First off, I love your channel, thank you for the videos. Now for a question, what is non toxic BP? Thanks.
B.T. or (Bacillus Thuringiensis) is a naturally occurring bacteria and one of the most common pest control to kill leaf eating caterpillars like cabbage worms, bagworms, leafrollers, tent caterpillars, gypsy moth larvae,.... It can be applied as a liquid or powder and you can find several varieties certified as organic. You may also use garden netting to control caterpillars if you don't wish to use any pesticides. I hope this helps and thank you very much for your comment!

Thank you so much for the comment!!😊
I have learned so much from your videos thank you so much for expounding your knowledge on this skill you are truly a blessing, God Bless You.
I have a question when watering from the start of seedlings as well as watering in grow bags do you water your plants until the water comes out of the bottom of the bag?
So glad found my videos helpful! For the seedlings, you just need to water so that the soil is moist, if it doesn't run off, that's ok too. or better if bottom water them- or you soak them in a tray of water. I will try to post a video on how to water seedlings soon. But for the grow bags, yes, water them deep so it come off from the bottom of the bag. Hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment!😊
@@TowardGarden thank you so much and i appreciate your response I look forward to the video, you’re awesome!

@@Harmonylovess You are very welcome and God bless you too!
I love your videos. You make it look so easy it seems like a magic trick. I have a hard time growing seeds past the sprout stage, any tips?
Glad you love my videos.
Depending on the condition you are sowing seeds, you need to adjust light, heat, and mainly watering. I have tried (and failed) many times to find the best way that works for me. If your seedlings die after germination, probably it is due to “damping-off,” a fungal disease. Try to sprinkle some baking soda around the seedlings (not too much) and do not over water them. I hope this helps.
Thank you again for visiting and Good Luck!
@@TowardGarden Thanks! That might be it, to much moisture.
@@TowardGarden I was growing then under my carport which I think was too dark but the patio was too bright and hot. I ended up putting the seedling flats amongst my blueberry bushes so they get dappled light and are growing much better.
Great choice. Glad to hear your seedlings are doing fine. Keep up the good work!👍
Great demo. I'm not sure if I can grow them on our hot climate in the islands.
Yes, you might not get to the full head size if it is too hot before plants go to bolting. Hope you will find a heat-tolerant variety for your area. I haven't tried them but 'Green Boy' or 'Charmant' are two heat-tolerant varieties you may want to try. Thank you so much for your comment!
Thanks for sharing this video! I’m a gardener too and I’m researching all the things I can grow in containers. I’m happy it led me to find you. I’m so happy it did your channel has so much to offer! This is very helpful. Thanks for teaching me something new. I hope we can learn more from each other as we grow our gardens and our channels!
Will the stems grow another cabbage head if left in the soil after harvest the cabbage?
If the weather is cool enough, it will regrow from stem left in the soil. It is possible that they may not mature to a full size head, but you will still have some tender leaves to harvest.
Thank you very much for visiting!
@@TowardGarden thank you 🙏🏾
I have a slew of 10 gallon buckets and every year I plant something in them trying to find something that will successfully grow in them. Cabbage next year!!! Carrots this year were ok but not enough space per bucket to be plentiful.
What are these grow bags made of ? Do they have pores for aeration ?
The grow bags are made of non-woven fabric which are porous and provide great drainage and air pruning for the roots. Thank you very much for visiting!
felt, basically:p
Beautiful. I dont see any bug damage. How did you prevent that? Do you cover with netting? Thank you for all your videos.
For pest control, I check my plants regularly and spray neem oil mix or B.T. ( amzn.to/3y3WkXM ) as I see the first signs of damage. As you mentioned, if you do not want to use any sprays, garden netting is a great option to protect cabbages. Thank you very much for your comment!
@@TowardGarden thank you for your reply.
Would this same process work for collards? Or do you have a video for growing collards from seed?
Pretty much yes, the process is similar. I don't have a video on collard but I will definitely add it to my list. Thank you for leaving a comment!
The other cabbages looks more like gigantic roses than cabbages ❤
Will the cabbages regrow if you leave the outer leaves out?? Or is it like after you harvest the cabbages, it's goodbye plant?
Indeed, the red ones look gorgeous.
If the weather is cool enough, leaves will regrow from stem left in soil. But it is possible that they may not mature to full size head, but you sure can use the tender leaves.
Thank you very much for the comment!
I just ordered red express seeds after watching this video. Its is very well made. What was the real actual days to harvest from seed on the red express? Package says 65 but I'm sure thats a stretch.
So glad you enjoyed the video. yes, 65 days is a bit optimistic, but sometimes I am able to harvest them in 70-75 days. Usually it would take 75-85 days to harvest. The colder, the longer it will take. Happy growing and thank you so much for your comment!
Thanks that was amazing tutorials, i just want to confirm something, you mentioned that from the day you sow the seed to day 37 you are just using seed starting mix (coir+perlite) are you sure you didn’t apply any fertilizer like diluted water soluble fertilizer such as fish emulsion between those days specifically (day 20 to day 40) specifically when the true leaves start forming. Thanks
And please can you let me know what zone are you in, i am in California 9b. Thanks
Good point! yes, your are correct. If the seedlings struggle to grow, I apply fish fertilizers occasionally. I forgot to include that in my video but have mentioned in my responses to the questions asked. The main objective is to keep the videos as simple as possible but I am also trying to add more of these details in the recent posts (like the video for Napa cabbage). My growing zone is also California/9b . Thank you very much for visiting and leaving a comment!

is it weird that i dont have the heart to pull a living plant so i just germinate the bitty seeds in a subway napkin first?XD i also learned that with my greens, i like smaller heads so im using 3 gal pots and just dragging them inside under my window that has an a/c unit in it, and that has worked for me!! im sooo excited bc this year is my first year growing red cabbage so i can have it for my tom thumb salads:p im also planting sugar baby watermelon! thank you for your time lapse, i was looking all over the place for this!
Glad to hear it. Thank you very much for your comment!
Love your videos!! So I am growing "Earliana" cabbage in a 12-inch pot, and the packet says to harvest in 60 days. I am on Day 45 and the plant is kind of small and the leaves aren't really big as yours. I applied Miracle-Gro fertilizer every 2 weeks, and it's still growing a little bit slowly. Should I change my fertilizer? I don't really know what's going on.
Glad you love my videos. The harvest days usually refers to days after transplanting- you need to add few weeks if you start seeds in trays. Also it is for the best growing conditions and vary from garden to garden. So if they are growing well, you just need to wait a bit longer and let plants to mature. Wishing you a great harvest and thank you so much for your comment!
Thanks! I also am growing it under a grow light. Does that also affect its growth?@@TowardGarden
I don't have that much success with grow lights and don't use them. To my experience usually plants won't grow at the same pace as in natural sunlight. Hopefully yours will do fine.
How often do you use the neem (aphids) and bt spray (worms)? If you make some of the spray solution can I leave In my sprayer or should I dump it out and make a fresh batch each month or so?
The idea is to prevent and control. So you should start applying at first sings of infestation. For both I suggest to use every 2-3 days until gone. And it is better to make a new batch to be on the safe side. Thanks.
Thank you. 💕
Скажите соотношение компот и земли 50/50 должно быть или меньше? Horse manure подойдёт или надо только куриный?
The best is to follow mixing ratios on the bag. If you don't use bagged manure, 1/3 composted manure should be ok. Both chicken or horse manure will work, just make sure they are aged and not fresh. Thanks.
Спасибо.
Can I ask what zone you are in? What month was it planted in the containers? I think it might be too late in the season for me to plant since next month is our hottest month... Maybe I can catch the fall season
I am in 9b and planted these in January. If you are heading into hot months, you are right and the cabbages may go bolting. I think fall will definitely be a better time. I hope this helps and thank you for visiting.
Would you like to tell me what kind of soil did use please? Thank you for everything
Please check video @2:59 min for the soil mix. For the composted manure, I used chicken manure.

Are those 5 gallon pots? Could I get away with 3 gallon fabric pots?
Yes these are 5 gallon bags. As shown in the video, you can grow them in 3 gallon plastic pots. However, 3 gallon fabric pots are not equivalent to 3 gallon plastic pots due to air pruning of roots (which restrict root development in grow bags). You can try planting in 3 gal fabric pots but may end up with smaller cabbages. Just make sure to water them regularly(daily). I hope this helps and thank you very much for visiting!
What can we grow in March in Melbourne
I am not from Melbourne but how about some beans, peas, or root vegetables like beetroot, carrot, radishes, and herbs and greens like lettuce, basil, parsley, kale,... . Thanks for visiting.
Did you start your seeds i doors?
I keep the seed tray in a shed like room in my backyard until seedlings emerge. As soon as they are out, I move them outside under a filtered sunlight. Only bring them inside if night temperature drops below 50F (10C). Thanks for visiting.
Can they be grown in a shaded area?

Hey your videos are the best I've seen! Never Stop! Also planning on growing some cauliflower soon, do you think if I followed these steps for cabbage it'd still work out. Every other video I find on cauliflower just drags on and on giving me no information. All my other vegetables have been grown based off your guides :) please help lol, even if I have to tweak the process a little.
Thank you very much for the comment. The process for cauliflower from sowing to planting is pretty much same as cabbage. Once planted, feed with a balanced fertilizer (such as 5-5-5) instead of nitrogen rich fertilizer. Also you might need to provide some support for the plants as they grow. I hope this helps and best of luck to you.
How do you keep pests out and animals I have a back patio and tons of wild life...
Floating row covers provide a good barrier to exclude pests. Thanks for visiting!
Get a roll of deer netting. Keeps out the bugs up to cabbage moths!. Still might get aphids tho. But marigolds take care of that.
Plant marigolds and onions next to your stuff and you'll be fine. Also a paste made of 1 part onion powder 1 part garlic powder and 1 part cayenne will keep the furry varieties away
I love your videos. I a new to gardening and always wanted to learn how to grow a garden using containers. I learn a lot from you. Can you use plant lights during the germination stage if you don't have the space outside to get natural sun?
You can definitely use lights if cannot get it naturally. That is the best practice to have healthy seedlings and to avoid leggy ones. I use containers a lot and you can grow almost any vegatables in containers. I am delighted that you love my videos and found them helpful. Best of luck to you and thank you so much!😊
What do you do with all the cabbage? Do you sell it or give it away because I know you can't eat it all yourself?

@@masonhamlin3921 Well 9a should be cooler than 9b, so you certainly have a nice cool weather to grow these. If you mean after harvesting, about 2-3 weeks. Just make sure to harvest them before rainfalls (too much water can split and damage the cabbage heads.) Good Luck!

That is so wonderful. I am wondering what type or name of the soil you are using? And what is the size of those containers? Thank you very much.
I usually make my soil. This mixture is equal parts of composted chicken manure, peat moss and perlite plus 1/4 cup of garden lime. You can find all of these items at your local garden centers. If you want to use potting soil, my choice is Kellogg organic Patio Plus. And the containers are 10 in wide x 10 in deep, 7 gallon and 5 gallon grow bags (check video @2:59 min). These look so cute, like babies growing in pots!! I had trouble last year growing kale and kalettes, they got infested with cabbage white caterpillars which was unpleasant. I'm going to try again with a net, do you cover brassicas with nets? How do you deal with pests that target them?
Either netting or I use neem oil mix to prevent. If you see the caterpillars, use B.T. natural bacteria solution. In any cases the best is to monitor and control them at early stages. Sometime I get fooled by how great the leaves look, but when I check underneath, I see the eggs. So make sure to check both sides of the leaves. I might be wrong, but I have many birds in my backyard and I think they enjoy the caterpillar diet too🤷♂️. I hope this helps. Thanks again for visiting and happy gardening.😊

Loved your video! What do you do with the roots and used dirt? Tyia!
Great question! The roots go to our compost bin, and once I cleaned the soil from all roots, I use the old soil as "peat moss+perlite" mix that I use in my videos, to make my new potting soil. So I add fresh compost (and sometimes fertilizer) to it to make a new soil. I have done this for years and it always works. So glad you loved my video and thank you very much for visiting!😊

How do you keep your grow bags looking as new as the day you planted them
I am not sure if I do anything special with the bags. I am guessing one reason that they don't get moldy is that I only water plants as needed and don't keep them soggy.

Im new to cabbage and i overstuffed my planter. I have 4 leads of cabbage in a small fabric grow bag. Can i remove the outer leaves to make more space for the crown/head to grow? Or will i hurt my plants?
Removing few outer leaves should be fine but don't cut too many. If you can, try to transplant them apart, that would be better. Happy growing and thanks for visiting.

These videos are so helpful. Just wondering what you do with the soil after harvesting? Can you get the roots out and use of for something else?
So glad you found my videos helpful. Yes, you can reuse the old potting soil by removing old roots from the soil and add fresh compost (composted manure, garden compost,...) and/or general purpose organic fertilizer for a new potting soil. A ratio of 1/3 to 1/2 fresh compost to the mix will work. I will try to post a video on reusing old potting soil in future. Thank you very much for your comment!

Hi I just watch quite a few of your awesome vids 👌 I just want to ask, is there a reason you start all of them off in trays and not sow directly? Would like to know if there is. Thanks! 😊
Hi. I found many benefits to starting seeds in trays: The growing media is more easier to control and manage. The temperature requirements, soil condition, light are few of them. I prefer this for vegetables that benefit from starting ahead and not for all my crops. I just share what works for me best but agree that you can sow directly many of the plants and get the same results. I hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment!

If I were to stagger when I started my seedlings, as one set is mature the next set will be ready to transfer to a grow bag, can I just use the same soil? I hope this isn’t a silly question
No such a thing as silly question specially when it comes to gardening😊. Actually I was asked this question many times so I posted a video on how to reuse your old potting soil check here ruclips.net/video/nlmarlrwfPI/видео.html . You sure can use the old soil but it needs to be rejuvenated. By the time you harvest the cabbages, the soil has lost its nutrients to grow healthy plants and it should be amended with fresh compost. As I showed in that video, you will need to add composted manure to make it rich. I hope this answers your great question. Happy gardening and thank you for getting in touch.
This is exactly what I needed I really appreciate you sharing this. I will absolutely be starting my cabbage seeds indoors. 🙏
Glad you found it helpful. Happy growing and thank you so much for your comment!
Love Pixie cabbage. Grow them in home "winter" garden in one-gallon containers. Very easy to grow and very delicious. Good video.
Wonderful! Thank you so much for your comment!
Did they germinate outside or did you put them under a grow light inside?
I generally do not use grow lights. I have a shed like room in my backyard where I keep my seed trays until the seedlings sprout. As soon as they pop out, I move them outside in indirect sunlight (under a patio umbrella), or 3-4 hours of direct early morning sunlight. But you sure can you grow light if needed. Hope this helps and thank you for visiting.
@@TowardGarden yes it helped thanks
Hi, Can you please mention the ratio of the each items used in the potting mix?
Hi. They can be equal parts, or you can use 40% compost, 40% peat moss, 20% perlite. Easier option would be mixing regular potting mix (60%) with aged manure (40%). Hope this helps and thank you for getting in touch!
@@TowardGarden Thank you so much. BTW, love your videos. Keep them coming.
@aparajitachaudhury8793 so glad to hear it. Thank you very much!😊
So o have a lot of cabbage growing and we are in July in southern Ohio.😱. Is there any advise that you can give me to help with the bolting?
I 'd say the best is to keep them watered and provide some shade for them. Cabbages do well in shades so avoiding hot sun would help. I hope the cabbages will do fine. Thanks for visiting!
This why love farming 😢😢
We love it too! Thank you so much for your comment!
anyone wondering where you get "pixie cabbage" another variety thats the same is Copenhagen Market Early Cabbage. it also matures in 2 months, but you can cut any cabbage at any size you like, which the name makes me laugh bc any cabbage can be pixie cabbage😂 i cut mine when their about the size of a grapefruit, and planted them 2 weeks apart. i scowered for mini love watermelon for months, until i found the same size was sugar baby watermelon, just a dif. color🤔
