    NIce video and post build information. Nice maiden, I think this plane has a real presence in the air and except for the wind catching you on the one landing she really locks on the landing. Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed it.

    Greg, you can install a steering gyro inline before the servo that controls the steering. That might litigate the wobble while taking off 🛫 could also assign to its own separate channel and dampen with expo and rates. At least that’s what TwoBrosRC does.

    • @FatGuyFliesRC
      @FatGuyFliesRC  Год назад

      Yes its own channel would work but I am out of channels now with this receiver.

    Great informative video ! I own this plane and Im stil in the process of finishing my custom paint job. One thing I ALWAYS do with all of my foam planes is immediately cut the control surfaces off and install DuBro square hinges with finish grade epoxy. Unfortunately with this particular plane you cannot do this with the flaps and ailerons because of the way they are attached only on a tiny section of the top surface. Im glad you included your segment on painting the existing hinges with a bit of adhesive - good preventative addition !

    • @FatGuyFliesRC
      @FatGuyFliesRC  Год назад

      Thanks for your experience and model setup practice. I do the paint on glue reinforcement on any foamy that does not already have mechanical hinges.

    A good majority of Rc Pilots tend to not Flair enough on Tricycle gear planes and thus always complain how the nose gear is to weak...Well Flair the nose up some more and you wont be bending or breaking nose gears off....Maybe their to used to Tail Draggers and are used to coming down on the mains?

    • @FatGuyFliesRC
      @FatGuyFliesRC  2 года назад

      Fair point and I agree tri cycle and tail draggers land differently and you need to acknowledge that and fly/land accordingly.

    Hi..interesting maiden! Very windy!! You obviously experienced those scary nosewheel antics first hand and your comments directed at Hobbyking were spot on! I've heard they've been experimenting with a redesigned nosewheel so there may be a version 2 on the way. I hope so... it's a lot of plane for the money. Maybe that explains the dramatic price cuts that have be introduced...although it could also be because of slow sales due to the adverse comments the nose gear generated! Glad you doublechecked the mounting screws....something I should have done! I was lucky to survive the maiden! I fly at Club Torre, just outside Valencia, Spain and we have a tarmac airstrip that chewed up the original foam tyres so I have fitted low bounce rubber ones and it makes a big difference to landings and taxiing. As I mentioned earlier I changed over the nosewheel to a P-38 one which fitted exactly. I cut the strut just above the coil spring and the new gear slipped on perfectly. If there is a small problem it's that there is a lot of travel on the suspension and if you land firmly the plane can tip slightly and combined with the dip of the suspension it's easy to ground one or both props. Check out your first landing on the grass! The new nose gear has improved the ground handling immensely as will the ME-262's if you go down that route. Congratulations on your videos which really help explain building and flying all kinds of rc planes in a calm and detailed way which is a boon to 73 yr old rookies like myself. It's a great hobby for pensioners and all ages. Saludos desde España!

      Just wanted to add, I've just changed the nosewheel servo to a separate channel to help with adjustments. And I've just bought a couple of Turnigy Graphene 5.000 45C batteries and first time out I got 51% and 50% on 12 minute flights.

    • @FatGuyFliesRC

      I have added some low bounce tires for the mains and the Freewing ME 262 nose gear for the nose. I love this plane and thanks for your info and watching!

    • @chevisemprini9030
      @chevisemprini9030 2 года назад

      Sorry...not your first landing....your second...on grass. Notice how easily she tips over to one side and the props can get damaged!

  • @stevecoltrin7230

    My front gear was a piece of junk also. It had so much slop in the movement that it was very hard to have it track straight on take offs and while taxiing. It also would not function every time, and I ended up having to land the plane with the nose gear down part way. It then collapsed and stripped out the gear and I got road rash on the bottom of the front of both engines and ruined both props. I have replaced the gear with one from a Flightline P-38. I understand a Freewing ME-262 front gear works too. Otherwise, the plane works fine. Since replacing the gear, it is much improved in handling and functionality. Another guy in my flying club has had the exact same problems with the front gear not steering straight and his nose gear didn't come down at all and he had to land with the nose gear up.

      Oh I agree. Great Flyer, looks real good but in direct contrast the gear sucks!!

  • @reginaldwashington764

    The aluminum arm that comes off the nose gear , there’s a small shaft that drops through the arm . Does that just hold in place by gravity ? Are was the there something holding it in place ? Mine popped out today . Was noticing the nose gear was tracking differently from rudder . Tried to slightly adjust it with a small twist , clevis popped right out with this shaft in it , from the arm

    • @FatGuyFliesRC
      @FatGuyFliesRC  2 года назад

      No it stays moveable to turn the nose with the rudder , if I am understanding you correctly.

    Just read on a rcgroups thread that as of June HKing are shipping out King Twins in white with upgraded nosewheels to be followed by livery versions. This explains the clearance price on the last of the old stock. The upgrade has a stronger and reshaped connector rod, a solid strut without a coil made of stronger metal with an additional piece plastic support bracket as well as a slightly larger front wheel. Oh and an upgraded servo as well.
    Apparently they have been listening to customers' reponses which may be a first! It's taken them well over a year! Upgrade kits will apparently be available shortly.
    At least the upgrade if it worksI (I'll wait for some reports from new buyers first! ) will have that characteristic forward rake. My P-38 conversion is more vertical and not so scale but of course has suspension. Time will tell if the replacement gear works!
    Also when changing wheels be super careful when removing the C clips as they ping off either into the wing or get lost on your workshop floor and dissappear! They are super difficult to replace at least here in Spain! Left the plane out of action for days!

    • @FatGuyFliesRC
      @FatGuyFliesRC  2 года назад

      Figures I would be snatched in by the sale and Missouri. OH well that's modeling. Good to hear HK is listening to customers however. That's a first for them.

    • @stevecoltrin7230
      @stevecoltrin7230 2 года назад

      They have upgraded nose gears, but the retract is the same old one that is having problems. So steering may be better when on the ground, but the gear will probably have problems with going up and down.

    I didn't catch the full model # of the receiver you used. I just heard AR6T. I just purchased this plane and will be adding an AR631. Wondering if you used a 6 channel receiver and if you had to do anything funny with a Y harness for the lights and ebic?
