Thanks again to Zeiss for the glasses! Check them out here: cinemizer.zeiss...
Another very entertaining episode! Cheers guys! Looked like you were having a lot of fun out there :D
that was fun, but i still didn't get a feel for the zies goggles. f.o.v.? etc.?
I really miss these kinds of episode :( even though I do like the vlogs I like these episode better great episodd
Nor Cal Fpv Agreed
They r even worsenow :((
That talon and josh’s build was pretty sweet. Would like to see something like this but with a drone chasing them and filming
i just like watching this flight and being in the cold at the same time it feels nice
Josh: Oh I see you [behind me]! That's so awesome!
David: Wow you're slow ~turns and leaves~
Wow those Zeiss glasses are ridiculously expensive
Those Zeiss glasses are sweet!
I really want one...
Wow, just seen the price of the Zeiss Cinemizer OLED goggles. Amazon market place price at 749USD - there'd be nothing left to buy the aircraft and associated parts. Why don't you guys do a video on setting up FPV from scratch on a budget?
Love seeing you guys do formation FPV, and with 3 different models its perfect :D.
The price of those Zeiss glasses just kills it for me, and I thought the Fatsharks were expensive..
Almost wish they send me a pair too.
its worth it though because it said oled meaning that the screens are flexible so u wonlt crack them and they are also probably curved
I think the Super Sky Surfer would be a good FPV platform. I saw one at HHAEFI at it looked great! I agree, those Zeiss glasses look cool!
Hey not sure if you guys have done it, but with your ability to reach out to your viewers, could you guys do a video where you have all the components to build an fpv system and show how to install it and what all the components are? if that makes sense. The whole fpv system confuses me but i wanna get into it.
Mad Yet Me too, I would love a basic FPV setup video with a list of stuff to buy to get started.
Just a thought for the GoPro gimbal issue. Perhaps you could set the GoPro in "upside down mode" and then the usb port would be on the other side.
Nice video, nice flying...I bought the "Nano-Falcon" (indoor) helicopter (world's smallest helicopter) over the weekend ($40)..it flies great, very responsive, great design, highly recommended...put it on your Christmas list.
5 Stars

Awesome. Too bad you guys could not get a 3 plane vic formation going and do a low pass.
There is just enough room on the Tarot gimbal to plug in an angled USB cable IF you trim the connector slightly. I swap plugs regularly to switch between USB connected to my camera switcher and USB connected to a PC for download.
The reason the gimbal is made with tight spacing there is so the gimbal is balanced well. The lens is basically centered on the tilt axis. Basically, with the body of the GoPro sticking out to the right and the gimbal motor closely spaced on the left, the gimbal is balanced with the lens centered on the tilt axis.
I don't like that the newer Tarots need tiny hex screws undone to remove the camera, but others have replaced that clamp with a removable O-ring.
Fun episode, guys! Great info on a lot of stuff here!
That whas great, seems a lot of fun. ;)
I hope you guys will make a review of the zeis fpv goggles soon.
HALLO is also Dutch for saying hello, Whaha ;)
Greets from the Netherlands.
Just a quick suggestion, you could still tap into the GoPro with the Tarot by turning the GoPro upside down, and in the settings on the camera, change the up/down orientation. That way, your plug is still available, and you're not viewing upside down! (I do this with one of my quads on a gimbal all the time :)
Great Video! Love The Zeiss Goggles!
The tarot gimbal has a USB cable that plugs into the side if the hero3. It can charge and send video out.
Those are big props on what appears to be the blue wonder! Is that the 700kv version?!
Good video, so the Zeiss goggles are an alternative to Fatshark and similar products? The InstaMorph product Chad is talking about is also called "Friendly Plastic" and can be found at many suppliers. It's commonly used in the hobby jewelery and rapid prototyping community.
Fantastic episode guys!
Chad's camera angle is good evidence that those domes and clear canopies are out of the question if you care at all about the recorded video
I Just got this amazing idea for the next episode, thumbs up so flitetest can see. Make a floating ring racetrack with balloons and cardboard. So basically you take cardboard, cut it up to make a large ring and reinforce it. Then you use bright tape and cover it. Tie a few balloons to the top of it and tether it with string from below. You put 10 or so going in a large circle and race through them using fpv.
Enjoyed the episode. I think the biggest thing stopping most people getting in to FPV is the price of the goggles. I've seen some alternative ways on youtube and think it would make a good episode if you guys did a show on that theme.
Keith
Josh/David, you did a review awhile back on the RV Jet as a FPV SETUP. Any reason why someone did not use that one for a comparison?? It seemed like, in the review, that the RV Jet was quite stable and a pretty good option.. Just was wondering if it is still an option that you would suggest?? Thanks,
Ron
I also love Insta Morph. I bought it because of Chad. Very good episode guys. I just ordered some of your tricopter parts. I'm Andy in Meadville, about 2 hours away.
David, Josh and Chad please do a video on the fpv setup all 3 of you were using including ground stations :) Looks like a really good setup.
Awesome video! I wasn't expecting to see a new vid until wednesday, but it was most certainly a nice surprise to see when I came home from school! I noticed in an older vid the box for a twinstar, and was wondering if you could do a review on it? Thanks, and happy holidays
Would be nice if FT would do a full review of the Zeiss glasses/goggles and maybe see how they stack up to Fatshark goggles.
Great video boys and as above would of liked more info on the glasses/goggles,still big thumbs up from me though.
Josh Bixler said it was not possible to get video out from the GoPro on his tarot gimbal. You can get video output from the USB connector on the side and tarot makes a low profile connector and its available on amazon. Just search "Tarot Gopro usb video" and you'll find it.
The cable will provide analog video and you can also send back 5v to the camera and keep it charged from a BEC too.
You can also make your own gopro USB video cable just search google.
Love your youtube videos especially anything FPV or multi-copter related!
More videos like this please! :D has a really fun atmosphere :D
Ive got another gimbal with the same problem, cramped space that limits the option of placing a regular HK gopro 3 cable. To get it to fit i stripped the black outter plastic leaving just the white inner plastic. Shave it just enough and you can make it fit.
I wished the pitch motor was placed on the right leaving the left busy Gopro side free and open. Yes i know it will be off center but thats an easy fix.
Great video. Josh b. 10 dollar plane and a borrowed gopro3 black. Laughed my azz off. Oh thanks for the powering off tip. I had no clue. Thanks again. . You 3 are great
Very nice video guys. I like the comparison side by side. Still working on my quadcopters and hoping to add fixed wing. Only interested in FPV. Keep posting, its a great learning and entertainment tool. Happy Flights!
100% Agreed!.. :)
looks like awesome fun, guys! Great video!
Recomed filling foam board air frame with construction spray foam.
have you guys tried the FPV flying in foam warbirds and have a mock dogfight??? That ould be a good one to watch
lets see the same thing but with the sky hunter, the techpod and the Chimera. it would be so sweet
i have an idea on how to get video from your gopro in the gimbal josh, mount it upside-down and change the inversion setting inside it. i hope this works :D
You forgot the real winner, the Skyhunter! :p
lol
Nice comparrison guys! Chad, would you like to try again and show us your plane's capacities with hatch? Considering the weight of your's, the efficiency's parameter for cruising amperage would still be quite high. But none the less, worth trying?..
Bixler, is there a bracked on the other side of the gopro if not, why not rotate the gopro 180 (keep lens forward) and config the gopro to rotate the image.
Have you thought about stereo FPV with cameras on the wingtips of the kraken?
"wow you could fit a puppy in there"
Far out fantastic!!
Your best vid yet.
More like it please...
That Looked Like alot Of Fun. I Couldnt Get The Link To Work For Those Glasses
Love your videos, all of them! Why are you guys not afraid to fly close to the tower?
I mean because of the radio waves etc
how does one go about getting sponsored for a vid???
any help would be awesome, excellent vid!!
make some good ones first
swappable edf would rock
Great Video as always.
Also guy's, Thank you for all your video's & I wish the Flite Test Crew a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
Au.RaBBiTT
What switch were you using Josh? Mobius? I couldn't find it. Great vid guys!
Zeiss vs fatshark
But Skyzone diversity goggles is still the winner lol
is there any way you guys can do a motor/frame sizing episode? Like what makes a 450 sized helicopter a 450? Or a .40 sized engine what it is, or a 500 sized tricopter? Like I understand the size difference of a 450 heli compared to a 500, but I can't seem to find why they got all the sizing numbers
Awesome! Can't wait to get my fpv setup
InstaMorph goes by the brand name of Polymorph here in the United Kingdom.
The DIY Electrical parts retailer Maplin Electonics sells it in all their stores and it is available online. Maplin source the product from Middlesex University teaching resources Ltd.
As Chad said, it's amazing stuff! it fuses at around 60*C . It is packaged as opaque white granules, when it's hearted in hot water it comes together and turns transparent, you then mould it form it or whatever you want then as it cools it turns back to an opaque white.
I use it for all sorts of things and it's re-usable as many times as you want, just pop it back in how water a while and it becomes pliable again to form into something else. I've made solid dental impressions with it, phone holders, camera holders, switch gear, connectors, all sorts! It's cheap too !
Chad please do a video of how to use it, what to use it on, and any neat ideas you've used it for :)
could you flip the gopro upside down to solve the gimbal problem? And set the gopro to show the video right side up through the settings menu.
Flitetest, can you guys review the Tarot gimbal? Seems great at a low price compared to other high priced ones
I have never seen video from a gimbal on an rc airplane. Gimbals are always on quads and helicopters. So how about posting the gimbal video somewhere so we can see what that looks like. Also I think you can put the GoPro in the Tarot gimbal upside-down and get access to the video out that way. (Yes you have to do gopro video flip but that fixes video for fpv as well.)
You should review the fpv raptor from hobbyking. It's just like a cheaper version of the penguin. It's a great beginner fpv plane for under 100 dollars as a pop
David PLEASE make a video for the 360 degree pan system when you make it.
Thanks
my talon flies at 4-5A with the top on, and flies with 6-8A with the top off... thats a huge surface difference.
We need a video showing how to tune a gimbal. I have bought a few of the low priced ones ad can't get any of them tuned. I watched and read everything and still can't figure it out.
NOT much info or stats on the ZEISS Goggles.
I’m so jealous and there is like 20 days until Christmas I️ want this SO much
I'm like the 10$ air frame line of thought With that line of thinking how can I get in to a stabilize fly contraption. The very cheapest, pare for the cores is first flight and collect peaces! If you can help I appreciate it ,if not its understandable!
The Talon is by far the best (only) long range FPV platform in this comparison. You guys should have compared more real long range PFV platforms from X-UAV and MyFlyDream. These are the two companies that make the best REAL long range FPV ships.
I noticed you did not compare the Zeiss to FatShark understanding that Zeiss sponsored the episode. considering that Zeiss is 2 times the cost of FatShark, is it worth the extra cash? The answer will show up in future episodes to see what you are wearing on your face:) The Planes?
David. Face it Readymade makes good stuff.
Chad. With the hatch missing, there was soooo much drag, no way you could give us a honest answer on how it flew.
Josh. 3 Gopros out in the open one of them with a gimbal. A bunch of drag will slow down the airspeed.
I keep searching for the ultimate FPV Plane, but my Bixler 2 is hard to beat!
As they received the goggles at no cost, cost will not be the deciding point.
Such as a set of twin red head pulse jets.
Chads mimic of David was on point
For an add for the goggles, they sure focused a lot on the planes and almost nothing on the glasses. except some "doesnt fit my head"..
I was hoping you guys would do a review of the Penguin! Now you have to do one about the FrSky Taranis. :)
for reviews of the penguin and taranis check rcmodelreviews here on youtube.
That penguin flies like a pig in the turns, ntice how the tail drags and the nose high attitude.
Rob B The Penguin flies a lot better with the canopy off of it.
SO, from what I have seen, 900Mhz seems to be the way to go. I'm running 2.4 RC, so interference shouldn't be a problem, right?
I noticed when you guys are sponsored you really don't do a review on the sponsoring product. This is similar to the stingray review but without a an actual demonstration.
Question:
I keep hearing that GoPro is a rotten FPV camera due to the delay yet I keep seeing you use them - Why?
I've never seen a cost/range for FPV gear - can you do a "best for price range" type episode?
Wow great episode
Nice vid guys
One question : the Zeiss cinemizer goggles are pretty expensive , but are they so much better then the fatshark goggles that i should make the investment ?
Nice chase!
Pretty sweet! But at a price point of $700 - $1000 for a pair of goggles, I don't think I would want to invest in them for FPV especially since the video transmission can't use the full potential of them. Still pretty sweet, I could see them for a lot of other applications, just not FPV.
Josh, how did you setup your FPV to view from 3 different cameras ? thats neat ! !
You buy a 3 way video switcher
hello guys !! I would like to start a little challenge if you agree !
Would you be able to fly in formation with FPV ?
thank you for all your videos.
You should do more videos on FPV, great video though!
You should get a solo shot to film the fast planes
So in other words, Good quality video, they don't fit well, and are f-ing expensive ($750)
You can tell they were trying not to say anything negative.
Kraken wins for versatility and payload, and you can't kill it. try putting 4 cameras on the penguin or talon.
I would love to see this revisited with newer air frames, trying to beat the Kraken!
And with new telemetry stuff
put the gopro 3 upside down on bixlers plane and you can access the usb while it's on the gimble
You guys are awesome
Readymaderc makes a gopro3 cable for the tarot gimbal I use it on my f450 quad
What would the cheapest, and still valuable complete FPV system for a bixler 2 be?
That was.... AWSOME!!!! :)))
My tarot t-2d came with a special cable for the micro usb, but i don't use FPV yet, it's on my wishlist... :D
QUESTION: Which FPV goggles do you prefer? Zeiss or Fat Shark?
What goggles do you normally use and how do they compare to these?
For flying wing, module pulse jets, upgrade, then it will not be slow
So if the detail is so good on those Zeiss gogs, why dont you use them all the time???
Because you still need an external receiver and antenna.
would it help if the Zeiss had a bungi strap like the Fat sharks?
Chads plane looks like a Arado 234. I love it.
The gopro can rotate image and mount upside down with access to the vid out plug. At least GoPro1
The 3 can do that, too. However, you actually can just plug into the side of the thing with it in the Tarot gimbal normally, despite what the Flitetest guys say. I've got mine set up that way.
What FPV system is Josh using with 3 video inputs? I've checked all your links to no avail. Thanks!!
