    I built one of these back when the video was up. I spent many hours actually measuring with a ruler on my screen measuring in cm converting to inches...don't ask i did what I had to do lol but I came out with one of the most memorable flight experiences I've ever had an to this day I would do it all over again. I still have the original waiting for when my little one is old enough to fly. Thank you for sharing your knowledge knowledge with the public this design is phenomenal.

    My nephew and I built a edf viggen recently. I was really nervous about the first flight (we are fairly new to rc flying). My 12yo nephew flew the plane and made it look easy. I'm very impressed with the flight characteristics of this plane, it wants to fly really fast, but has no problem slowing down and just glides in for a soft landing. Great job on this design, if you're new don't be afraid of buying/building one. Love it.

    • @rice0009
      @rice0009 10 лет назад +4

      PKMartin I don't think that it's actually a camera hanging off a plane. 1. I can't imagine what would happen to the CG if you did that to a plane! 2. I don't see the Control Surfaces deflect at all.
      It's like it's an empty plane (no electronics) hanging off a Quad Copter.

    • @3DPrintTechDesign
      @3DPrintTechDesign 10 лет назад +2

      Tim Rice actually they have mounted a camera on the plane. Although removed it for the preview image in photoshop(or similar). Check the video :) you will like it!

    This plane is phenomenal… I just love it.
    I built around 5 Viggen 3 with the same dimensions and 2 128% bigger , the bigger one is so much better with90 mm EDF but the common problem in all of them is the lack of ventilation for the electronics. That is why I made ventilators for the last 3.
    Thnx David it’s a great plane.

    • @RomiAlmeda
      @RomiAlmeda 10 лет назад +1

      We use Adam's Readi Board, commonly referred to as "Dollar Tree Foam Board" because it is sold at the Dollar Tree for, well, $1 per 20x30" sheet. It is slightly heavier than Depron because of the paper lining but you can remove the paper much easier than Elmers foamboard to make it lighter. I hope this helps!

      I'm in Germany, so I don't have access to a Dollar Tree :). That's why I wonder how thick the boards are (and perhaps the weight / sheet) so I can find something similar in our hobby shops.

      There are alternatives, perhaps not so good but close enough as this has a huge weight envelope - Corroflute for example - Often used in forsale signs.
      Insulation foam is available all over the world.
      There is a post in the tips on Foam board in Australia.

    That formation flying you did made me think of an awesome idea: You could use FPV gear and a gas powered plane to do a mid-air refeuling mission!

    Wow put a lot of research and development into this plane. Also got a million dollar movie with all that work with the afterburner. That was epic.

    This was one of the most fun episodes ever! Every episode should end with a burning hulk of an airplane :). I like the fly em' like you stole em attitude also. Makes the sport much more fun. This is on my list of builds now.

    Wow, you can really tell when DW is fond of something. I'm tempted to build one though I think I'll have to leave off those baby blue stickers.
    All kidding aside, very nice design and build Dave. Today's show was a special one of a kind in many ways. You are fortunate to have such a passion and skill and especially a woman back home who'll put up with it all for so long.
    Nice show guys.

    I finally finished building my scratch build of this plane! I went with the swappable option since I don't have extra dough for an EDF setup. Mostly because I would need to buy a few 4S batteries to make it worth while. At the moment I'm running a Turnigy D2836/9 950KV motor with a 10x6 prop. I have an 8x10 prop on it's way that should break the 80mph barrier and hopefully give me less torque roll. Also, my motor setup was so heavy and hanging out the back more than 2 inches, that I ended up throwing in two 2200mAh 3S batteries in parallel just behind the nose and it balanced out perfectly! I flew it's maiden flight about 30 minutes ago and it was so smooth! I flew it for about 8-1/2 minutes and my batteries still read 55% so I should easily get at least 16 minutes.
    I plan to build another one with an EDF down the road but I think I'll go with the speed build kit for that one just to make sure every angle is perfect.
    Thank you, David, for this awesome creation!!!

    Afterburner did it again!.
    David, try igniting the afterburner with steel wool and sulphur. The cool thing about this method is that the rate of burn is proportional to the air flow surrounding it. It is what they use on modern flaming arrows. Add an electronic igniter (small resistor or nichrome with matches) and you should have a somewhat more safe igniter/primer for the butane combustion.

    I made the Viggen and I have to say it's a fuckin' great plane to play with. It's so much fun and you really can slow it down to almost zero speed and it doesn't fall out of the sky. I fly it with a cheap china 70mm "fan"... I get about 4 minutes out of a 3000 4 S. And I crashed it several times due to pilot failures. But I could manage to fix it each time and it flyes still great.
