Thanks for your support!
Awesome video and design. Really Love the way David laughs and reacts to disaster. Will certainly miss him when he goes home. You guys are awesome!
I maidened mine a week ago, it’s astonishingly easy to fly! I was doing inverted passes after just a couple minutes in the air.
Probably the best episode ever. It felt a bit like a good bye episode for David... *sniff*
I built one of these back when the video was up. I spent many hours actually measuring with a ruler on my screen measuring in cm converting to inches...don't ask i did what I had to do lol but I came out with one of the most memorable flight experiences I've ever had an to this day I would do it all over again. I still have the original waiting for when my little one is old enough to fly. Thank you for sharing your knowledge knowledge with the public this design is phenomenal.
Oh God, that´s awesome!
U r too :)

SRAZiX fpv yes 😂
David's work with FT Viggen was one of his best. The Viggen is an awesome RC subject and one of the best flying EDF's I have flown.
thumbs up for using the metric system
My nephew and I built a edf viggen recently. I was really nervous about the first flight (we are fairly new to rc flying). My 12yo nephew flew the plane and made it look easy. I'm very impressed with the flight characteristics of this plane, it wants to fly really fast, but has no problem slowing down and just glides in for a soft landing. Great job on this design, if you're new don't be afraid of buying/building one. Love it.
Love the on-flight camera angle looking at the plane! Nice work!
Me too- I'd love to see how they built it!
PKMartin I don't think that it's actually a camera hanging off a plane. 1. I can't imagine what would happen to the CG if you did that to a plane! 2. I don't see the Control Surfaces deflect at all.
It's like it's an empty plane (no electronics) hanging off a Quad Copter.
Tim Rice actually they have mounted a camera on the plane. Although removed it for the preview image in photoshop(or similar). Check the video :) you will like it!
Tim Rice
It was normaly for gopros and those crazy people, search for FPV a change in perspective, or use this: watch?v=OgGsPaCVdjY
It works great! And look cool as well.
Anyway, thanks to David! Thank you for, well, basicly everything!
I just ordered a Viggen speed build kit!!! I can't wait to build and fly it! If only the recommend edf was in stock. I will have to piece together my motor and ESC on my own. Thank you FT!
Someone make a 200% version of this and call it a "Biggen"
That's not even funny...

@@adam_makes_stuff you guys are lame! but seriously phille is lame, his comment was and is realy unnecessary and shows poor character.
This plane is flying so great, that I never had a crash with it. It's my only and favorite FT EDF plane.... I built speed build kit according to the constructors advice, with 70mm edf, 60amp esc, 3000mAh. Absolutely amazing.
Nice video!! I don't know much about this hobby, but the video pulled me in!
You should check it out! It's lots of fun!
I've made prop cargo planes using 1x1 engines which is pretty big(btw it was not and actaul cargo plane of course it was life sized made of the dollar tree foam board david spoke about).
I remember for Christmas my wife got me 12 EDF Jets. Talk about a happy guy. Unfortunately she was not happy when I crashed 10 of them. Thank you so much for designing a EDF jet. I hope y'all do a lot more with Them
You guys supposed to have millions of views why that low. Quality is amazing. Good job
THANKS SO MUCH DAVID AND EVERYONE INVOLVED!!!!! cutting and sanding foam is so messy which stopped me from making one of these, now i can get one of these :)
Kul avsnitt, bra jobbat David. Häftigt att Viggen blir en sån grym plattform för R/C
This plane is phenomenal… I just love it.
I built around 5 Viggen 3 with the same dimensions and 2 128% bigger , the bigger one is so much better with90 mm EDF but the common problem in all of them is the lack of ventilation for the electronics. That is why I made ventilators for the last 3.
Thnx David it’s a great plane.
I like how David gets so rough with his beautiful airplanes :)
A big thanks to the FliteTest team! You guys are a class act, and definite innovators and pillars of the R/C community!
You guys make it fairly cheap and easy for beginners to get into flying, yet still have cheap and advanced planes as well. Job well done guys! I think it's safe to say no one can wait to see what you guys think of next!
I own 2 of your planes so far ( spitfire and f-22 ) I will be ordering the Viggen tomorrow.
If y'all ever make it to SouthEast Texas, give me a shout!
David should make some thing from ikea fly
3 years later, they made an Ikea chair fly LOL
I just wanted to tell you guys are AWESOME. I had no idea were to start in the rc hobby until I found your account. you really gave me a plantation to build off of and really appreciate the advice and help. now I own a bixler 2, an fms 1280 (similar to the bixler2 ), and I have scratch built the f22, ft flyer, a slow flyer made from the building techniqes from expiremental airlines, and I cant explain how helpful you are
the swede crack me up. crazy funny guy and that insane laugh when it goes crash or bang or poof makes me roar. tremendous stuff
David, the ending with the afterburner was priceless!!! what a great looking jet. especially to be a speed build kit. thanks for your time and effort that you and everyone at FliteTest have put into these kits. they are truely awesome!
Holy production value Batman!
I'm watching this again in 2017 and the part with the Afterburner crash is still just as hilarious. A classic moment.
Now thats a Jet I could enjoy..!! thanks guys
Im from Sweden so its pretty fun to see a classic swedish airplane being made by these guys
Finally some Swedish planes (I'm from sweden)

FT Viggen vs Väggen. That's awesome man, makes me want to get into this hobby again.
Love it.
They are so fast and the look amazing. The one with the prop that moves with the altitude was so nimble. It looked like a jet doing 3D. David, keep up the good work👍🏼
Bring back the Sweed! He made FT if you ask me.........
I do agree!
He has his own life to live
Nutt a really?
While I'd dearly love to see David and Peter on FT again, they have their own lives and it's not right of us to just *demand* they return.
Andres is Swede in training, just watch
I have been waiting for this since the QX Challenge. They had it hanging on the wall and I just had to know what it was. So excited to build it!!!!!
The shots you got on this video were truly exceptional! Was that camera on a boom? Can you please do a video on that. It looked amazing!!!
This never gets old. Miss Dave.
i watched the ending 3 times and im still laughing hard
Wow. You guys rock. The whole FT team is an asset to our hobby. Keep up the awesome designs and great videos. The positive, welcoming tone is so refreshing and badly needed in the world of RC flying. THANK YOU!
David-maybe since you built that, try the Saab JAS Gripen (love this vodeo)
Fantastic! Flite test is without doubt one of the most important organisation in the RC world and once again they raise the bar! This aircraft is a real credit to David and the team!
nice))
AWESOME !!!!!! and actually safest place for you guys to test the afterburner. In snow. Ive seen it , now I or anybody will have to try it. Thanks guys.
now flite test, my challenge to you is to make a twin EDF jet with 360 degree thrust vectoring
If that was possible it would be fricken amazing
Erich Schwarzkopf right? no kidding. i would love to build a plane like that.
Exxxxtreeeeemly nice paintjob with airbrush. And beautifully designed decals as well.
David's psycho laugh after the plane caught on fire
Reminds me of the joker from The Dark Knight
Wow this was one of your best videos. Building, flying, fpv, and crashing in flames! Who could ask for more? LOL
One receiver, crisp please. =)
What a beautiful looking plane. Do you have any info on the "dollar tree foam boards" you are using? Like thickness and or weight?
We use Adam's Readi Board, commonly referred to as "Dollar Tree Foam Board" because it is sold at the Dollar Tree for, well, $1 per 20x30" sheet. It is slightly heavier than Depron because of the paper lining but you can remove the paper much easier than Elmers foamboard to make it lighter. I hope this helps!
Rainy DayRC
I'm in Germany, so I don't have access to a Dollar Tree :). That's why I wonder how thick the boards are (and perhaps the weight / sheet) so I can find something similar in our hobby shops.
I'm new to this, so I don't know what people are using here.
Balu Did you found Dollar Tree Foam in Germany? Im from Switzerland and i am looking as well for those....
Mike Jans
Yes, we've learned quite about about foamboard in the meantime :). You should check this thread:

Balu Hey thank you very much... because i want to build a viggenxtreme
:-)
First time in history that an RC experienced a catastrophic in flight compressor stall! U GUYS ROCK
Man, I miss David. 😢
I use that mobius cam for everything! I haven't posted any videos of it yet, but I use it for FPV, Airsoft POVs, Normal recording, biking, you name it. I would definately recommend bc its such a good quality and small camera for really cheap.
Butane camping with David :D
David NEEDS to come back!!!!
A *JET FOR A BEGINNER!!???* YES! David did it. The stall control with Canards is excellent.... The WHOLE thing is well Designed!!
The Thrust Vectoring bit in the middle was mind blowing!!!!
The Afterburner was EPIC!!!! Right before it went up in flames. 😱
Maybe... An Aluminum Thrust Tube???
is it just me, or do they put out less videos nowadays? not complaining, just thinking i hadnt seem much in my feed recently.
We release 2 videos each week. Mondays and Wednesdays :)
fairtony Its because you have to look in your subscription and not what youtube recommends. RUclips does filtering for you...
+FliteTest which power packs come with a edf fan? please answer
+GAMER X I dont think they sell EDF. Look on their store. flitetest.com
I've noted that as well
Beautiful, David I commend you on the sacrificial nose. That was brilliant. If I ever design a Scratch build that will definitely make it into the design.
Hi guys! I have a viewer request/challenge for you! :D
I would be so insanely awesome if you could try to build a replica of Don Karnage's "Iron Vulture" from the Talespin cartoon and launch a plane from it in midair with FPV!
In case you don't know what it is: It's basically a flying aircraft carrier with like 10 smaller lifting props and two big ones for forward motion.
Pleasepleasepleaaaaase build it! :D
//Cheers from Sweden
Yes! do it!
The "Sea Duck" and Don Karnage's tri-plane would be awesome too. That tri-plane definitely would be a challenge. The "Iron Vulture" is just a multi-rotor on steroids lol
Now i have something Worthy of putting my new edf into. Its been waiting a while year for this Build !😎
OK so at 13:45 how do you get that video shot from the plane . What is that at up. A rod or somthing attached to camera to give a view like that
PLEASE LET ME NO. ...CHAD DAVID THE 2 JOSHES SOMEONE LOL
its pretty much a v bar with 2 go pros on the ends
Chad & David & Chris : Nice job on the Video & Building & Flying the Planes ! Thanks
So can somebody explain what happened to the build video? Was it just some kid flagging a random video? Dang RUclips, you need to fix your system because my stupid filter is fill of your crap!
David, Wow! It looks great and flies even better. You have taken FT in a whole new direction. You're a genius! I really liked the airborne camera on the plane. You're going to have to do an episode on how that rig works.
I want one but I live in Australia
Download the plans and get cutting.
Richard Harris If only it was that easy. The only close equivalent to foam board here is quite expensive and needs to be shipped from the other side of the country. It's usually not at all worth the expense.
There are alternatives, perhaps not so good but close enough as this has a huge weight envelope - Corroflute for example - Often used in forsale signs.
Insulation foam is available all over the world.
There is a post in the tips on Foam board in Australia.
At a push you could mod the design to use light ply and balsa. David has done all the hard work on the design.
Yeah? I'll give corflute a go, if I have any luck ill post some photos on the website. Thanks for your help Richard!
Matthew Adams Welcome. If you go for corfflute then use tape to join. I got loads from a local estate agents sign man. He just gave me a bundle from the back of his van.
If only I had the time right now. Hope I remember this one come summer time. Awesome effort in to this one David!
Can we get that kit on europe ? :(
Ked yesh plz get it to EU !
Awesome that you linked up with Grayson for a kit on day one.
OK, I just need t know what David says at 20:20 !!!!!!! Bad WHAT!?!?!?!! SOMEONE HELP ME
modeller...i think,
@@carboncubss yep he did he said bad modeller.
Love the thrust vectoring version. You guys sure do a great job - thank you
also, what the heck is going on at 11:52?
I was wondering that myself. I have seen similar cameramounts with counterweight with actioncams on helmets etc. But this just looks insane! FT, wat did you do here?
+1 would love to see how they got these in-flight shots
kedelbach
They talk about it in the podcast :)
Byro Which episode of the podcast?
David's laugh made this video hilarious. Well done FT. Just shows you can do just about anything with a few dollars of foam board. And even have a campfire from them too! Bonus!
This channel just isn't the same without David. None of the goofy bros on there now could design anything like this. They're just droneheads with no real substance to input.
I agree, the channels pretty boring now with them just acting like idiots
mark675 totally with you man they act like 5 yr olds
FT: I built my first quadrotor 3 weeks ago, and just took my GoPro 200+ ft up for the first time. Landed in a tree, but hey, it was fun. Thanks for the inspiration!
His cheeks look like they have been slaped silly
Haha yeah cause they're so red :D
HAHAH
It looks like rosacea
hes hasn't figured out that makeup is only for women yet lol
And your eyes look like someones stretched them..
I am very impressed with this build. With afterburner too...
even in 2024 these videos are such gems to look back on. cant wait for flite-fest in a few months
YES this year is going to be the biggest year YET!!!
@@FliteTest and 10th anniversary:)! I think lol
That formation flying you did made me think of an awesome idea: You could use FPV gear and a gas powered plane to do a mid-air refeuling mission!
Wow put a lot of research and development into this plane. Also got a million dollar movie with all that work with the afterburner. That was epic.
I really love the third person camera mount you put on the vinyl FPV version, makes a really beautiful shot! Keep up the good work!
I nearly died laughing when David's afterburner caught fire and he ran giggling to the burning wreckage! Great job David, the Viggen looks fantastic!
Epic episode! new awesome camera angles, fantastic plane, crashes and then... FIRE!!!
We are all going to be so sad when David leaves :(
Awesome third person view of the plane!!! it would be awesome to see a tutorial for that :D
This was one of the most fun episodes ever! Every episode should end with a burning hulk of an airplane :). I like the fly em' like you stole em attitude also. Makes the sport much more fun. This is on my list of builds now.
the thrust vectoring looked so awsome
Wow, you can really tell when DW is fond of something. I'm tempted to build one though I think I'll have to leave off those baby blue stickers.
All kidding aside, very nice design and build Dave. Today's show was a special one of a kind in many ways. You are fortunate to have such a passion and skill and especially a woman back home who'll put up with it all for so long.
Nice show guys.

So very cool. Looks so wonderfully designed. Fast or slow, the flying I will go. Gotta get me one of those.
I would love to see a vid with more of the thrust vector viggen flying- it's really cool. As always, thanks for producing such great content!
Thank you David for an awesome present.
Im seriously going to miss you bro!
Good luck in the future.
Love this episode. The crazy swede David, has the abilities, personalities and humor to make this great entertainment. Greetings from a not so crazy norwegian.
18:42 QUICK! Get some snow! You are one crazy man David.19:10 The last thing to burn was the nose of the plane!
Nice build, review, edit... cant say more! Guys great work! you did put all the effort on this one! thanks David you have been and touch tons of people on keeping their brains BUSY BUSY! Fly safe!
Ed
I finally finished building my scratch build of this plane! I went with the swappable option since I don't have extra dough for an EDF setup. Mostly because I would need to buy a few 4S batteries to make it worth while. At the moment I'm running a Turnigy D2836/9 950KV motor with a 10x6 prop. I have an 8x10 prop on it's way that should break the 80mph barrier and hopefully give me less torque roll. Also, my motor setup was so heavy and hanging out the back more than 2 inches, that I ended up throwing in two 2200mAh 3S batteries in parallel just behind the nose and it balanced out perfectly! I flew it's maiden flight about 30 minutes ago and it was so smooth! I flew it for about 8-1/2 minutes and my batteries still read 55% so I should easily get at least 16 minutes.
I plan to build another one with an EDF down the road but I think I'll go with the speed build kit for that one just to make sure every angle is perfect.
Thank you, David, for this awesome creation!!!
hahaha, I love this episode guys. I've watched it about 4 times now and I cant stop...I just love it. Hope to buy one soon.
brilliant shots with the camera on the plane mounted tripod! That looked sick!
Im back after 6 years and i still love this
Afterburner did it again!.
David, try igniting the afterburner with steel wool and sulphur. The cool thing about this method is that the rate of burn is proportional to the air flow surrounding it. It is what they use on modern flaming arrows. Add an electronic igniter (small resistor or nichrome with matches) and you should have a somewhat more safe igniter/primer for the butane combustion.
So damn cool! Thanks guys! I've been hoping for a Flite Test EDF for a long time.
Epic! That is an amazing plane and awesome footage! Great video guys, congrats on all the hard work paying off on one of the top Flite Test videos ever
I made the Viggen and I have to say it's a fuckin' great plane to play with. It's so much fun and you really can slow it down to almost zero speed and it doesn't fall out of the sky. I fly it with a cheap china 70mm "fan"... I get about 4 minutes out of a 3000 4 S. And I crashed it several times due to pilot failures. But I could manage to fix it each time and it flyes still great.
Thank you David. You are very nice guy, and very talented craftsman.
Thats pretty effin awesome. hats off to David
tänk, jag visste inte att jag ville ha en sån här innan den här filmen!! neeeeed one!! love the trial/show @ 7 mins
Chad and David have too much fun. When you are left alone they are like two naughty little kids. It's awesome :)
