These videos are like therapy. Thesedays I can't RC due to legal and practical considerations where I live, but watching other people fly is a great escape and keeps the interest alive. Thanks guys for making such great vids.
Yes, I've had to stick floats on one of mine just to be able to say I have. Mine had the left torque turn because it had no float rudder, so I had to circle around into the wind to take off. It is a blast none the less, and you guys are the perfect example of what this country needs as role models, keep it up, and God bless you all.
I love the sound of that motor. One commenter said it needed more power on takeoff. I am no judge of that but I'll bet Alan has enough experience with that plane/motor combo that he has it dialed in! Besides, that motor has got to have a lot of torque, even at lower throttle settings! Good video guys!
Great tips for flying off water. We have club events that entail float fly's during the summer and they are the most fun. The big one is landing on water. You don't stall your landings like you do on the ground. You fly your plane onto the water and let friction slow you down. I have seen planes PLOP onto water and it's not pretty sometimes. It's soooo much fun! Sometimes it can be more challenging than flying off a runway!
Great to see some varied clips of current & classic aircraft coming through. It was getting a bit tiring seeing months of ft home made foamies taking centre stage. This stuff is great. Thank you.
Jakob Oevermann Hi Jakob, the biggest problem is getting the foamboard. Everything else like servos, push rods, motors, ESCs, LiPos, etc. is easy to get in every hobby shop or online. Every foamboard we have found is heavier than the Adams Readi Board Flite Test uses. Especially the Kapa brand you can find in a lot of stores is more than twice as heavy. I still want to experiment with "Airplac 1" from Isopor, but don't have time for that at the moment. Other people have been using Depron, but that is not laminated with paper on both sides, so you need to use some tape to create the hinges.
Fly a cessna 182 skylane. You guys need to do a little more scale rc planes like this one. I like the way they look in the air and will really enjoy it if u do that for our scale rc plane lovers. U guys r doing a real good job flite test. Cant wait til the next episode.
Anybody interested in a Tug/ Recovery R/C boat for float planes should check out "Springer" style R/C boats. They are basically the boat equivalent of some of the simple flitetest foamboard builds. Only a few simple pieces to cut out on a jigsaw.
Great flying, great tips and timely. I reviewed the Cub with floats footage and saw the link to the Flyzone Beaver. I really like the comment you made, Josh, to Josh when he asked about putting on the floats Now. Like my vastly more experienced friend told me when I bought that Beaver .... Learn to fly it without the floats first.
Question: How do you manage the chase plane with the video of the featured plane in flight. What kind of equipment is the chase plane? Is it flown using on board video to know that is on track?
That's a nice plane and I like that 4 stroke sound. I just wanted to add that with other water craft, ie: boats, windsurfers etc, that moment when you 'unstick' from the water and rise up ( described as 'on the step' here ) is called going 'on the plane'. I suppose it would sound pretty odd to say, my plane got up on the plane. Hahaha!! :¬D
Awesome! I love big planes. I need to get my scratchbuilt Air Tractor 401-D built, it will be using a 30cc gas 4-stroke from a weed eater, yes, 4 stroke! I will see about adding the Townend ring around it for looks too. I'd like to add a functional spray/dusting system for giggles too. Also need to find a sporty .30 size airframe for my OS 49PI rotary. Not much in that size for a nitro airframe. Perhaps a modded electric airframe? Any suggestions Josh?
Kalen Mcbride I think he's working as a pastor at his church or something.. that's what I've pieced together from other comments. But I agree, I miss Josh too..
Kalen Mcbride Matt is right. They've mentioned in the past that he's very involved with his church which takes a lot of his time. He is still a part of the FliteTest family, but just can't be as involved as he used to be.
That is just way to cool ' my ? is how much does one of those cameras cost & how much does one weigh ? I have a few more ?'s ' but its 3:15 in the morning & Im getting tired . Thank's for the vid ' later man Jimmie R
MattExzy At the end of the video, Alan is asked how long he can fly, and he answers 8 minutes, but says it will fly for 15 minutes, or so...definitely at least 12 minutes, but he brings it in at 8. Eight minutes is about the average for my electrics, as well.
daxdadog If you have an efficient setup and only fly half throttle after take off 20mins can be achieved relatively easily with electronic motors. However electric sailplanes can be flown nearly infinitely long. My big boy stays up roughly 30-45 mins on normal days with one climb and my battery lets me climb 6-7-8 times depending on the height im going for. Not to mention the flight times when hunting the thermals actively... That is something you do on a hot summer day chillin' with your model flying friends. Some nice music a cold drink and then enjoy :D And also don't forget the camera for some nice video footage from heights you don't get with your multicopter without fpv
Camera Bird They have been talking about it & looking forward to it I think. If history has anything to do with it I bet this will be the best one yet for all envolved! Wish I lived closer.
+NorCalDubber I think it is Lake Murray, just west of Columbia, SC. Alan has the Lexington County brogue down pat, and the shoreline sure looks like Lake Murray.
the plane looks great and was flown very well, however, i noticed one thing that I have always kept in mind. Wood props and water do not get along very well if you happen to have a prop strike in the water. it would be a shame to loose such a nice engine due to a prop strike.
Very nice video! What it didn't show you is how tricky it is when the wind isn't blocked and your plane is taxing away and doesn't have enough rudder to turn around. The weather-vane effect. Love float flying with a clipped cub. :^)
Thumbs Down? Why are there any thumbs downs? Be nice to hear from these 11 that don't like the Vid, WHY? Must be a bit of Jelousy Maybe? Any FloatFly is Awesome! Nice Plane Guys..Nice to see some Nitro Action and on Floats makes it even BETTER! :D
my mates and i, when we dont have to use an electric starter we call the stick a "chicken stick" for the guys who dont like to get there fingers too close to the prop. me, i prefer not to loose my fingers so i will happily use a chicken stick

Some of your videos I just keep coming back to. Whoever put this one together deserves an award or something.

NICE graphic at 3:05! I love visuals like that!
You can thank Dave and Brian (in this case Brian I think) for that extra little touch! :) -Austin
Thanks Dave and Brian you'all nailed it!
It was Dave :) FliteTest

Here I am, just about to go to sleep since it's midnight in Germany when a new Flite Test video is posted...
Sleep is overrated anyway.
Same here in the Netherlands :)
Floris Hubregtse and the uk lol
Simon Whittaker Add Belgium, still awake @02:30
I am from Germany too and I'm just getting in to the hobby
Could you tell me where I can get the stuff for scrachbuilds ?
Jakob Oevermann Hi Jakob, the biggest problem is getting the foamboard. Everything else like servos, push rods, motors, ESCs, LiPos, etc. is easy to get in every hobby shop or online.

Very cool guys! And what a beautiful place to fly, Alan!
Great flying, great tips and timely. I reviewed the Cub with floats footage and saw the link to the Flyzone Beaver. Hey Flite Test, Can you create a mini version of tiny trainer please, Thanks
Thought I only loved commercial aviation until I ran across this video! Great channel.
Nice to see a gas plane on FliteTest for a change. Good simple episode. #flitetest
The "One more Time" comment had me worried - when bad things happen. ESPECIALLY with the squirrely wind. Glad that last one worked out for you.
Peter Gregory Here ... hold my beer.
Peter Gregory "I got a bad feelin' about this."
Nice Plane...How about doing a little gas/nitro plane series?
Is their a video about the tug boat with the go pro on it yet?
I love the sound of the twin 4-stroke
YAY!!!! GAASSSSS!!!!! thanks guys!!! love the episode!
Ed
been thinking about getting a gas plane ,now i will ,seeing how much fun it is.Great show.
Question: How do you manage the chase plane with the video of the featured plane in flight. What kind of equipment is the chase plane? Is it flown using on board video to know that is on track?
What are the little 'cups' for at the back of each landing skid? Just to slow it down?
That's a nice plane and I like that 4 stroke sound.

Nice run.. water plane more interesting than land take off... Could you please sui a review on the graupner transmitter for quads
Alan is good on the sticks.
What's the link for the boat? Would love to see it.
300K Gratulation!
Awesome can you review the extra thanks
Did yall go to SEFF this year?
Awesome episode. Loved it!!
Awesome! Cant wait for them to do a big boat hull seaplane one!

Nice video. What was your wing cam setup, no jello or shake despite engine vibration?
Balu I have to correct myself. At 01:03 you can see it's a GoPro attached to the wing. I guess the plane is big enough to carry it. :)
Hey what's up is the sports cub s with safe a good beginner plane
Yes! I've been waiting for this all day. (its 11:19pm) :P
When was Peter's harpoon video released?????
Where can i find the tugboat video?
Can you guys please do a video of the rare bare by eflite it is purple
What happened to Josh? Not Josh but... Josh! Sorry if missed something but I haven't heard anything about him for a while.
Kalen Mcbride I'm not sure. :(
Kalen Mcbride I think he's working as a pastor at his church or something.. that's what I've pieced together from other comments. But I agree, I miss Josh too..

#1 asked question of Flite Test. Some times he's in the videos. Some times he's not...
Scott Hampshire so donating his time to a valuable cause.....hmmm
That is just way to cool ' my ? is how much does one of those cameras cost & how much does one weigh ? I have a few more ?'s ' but its 3:15 in the morning & Im getting tired . Thank's for the vid ' later man Jimmie R
Really nice! Great video and awesome plane.
Like the sound of that 4 stroke
Anyone know the lake they were flying at?
Nice ! Thanks guys, have a nice day. Chris from Brussels-Europe
Awesome airplane awesome apengine sound and again an awesome video! Thank you guys!!!
Newbie question here, but what's the flight time of gassers vs. electric?
MattExzy At the end of the video, Alan is asked how long he can fly, and he answers 8 minutes, but says it will fly for 15 minutes, or so...definitely at least 12 minutes, but he brings it in at 8.
Eight minutes is about the average for my electrics, as well.
daxdadog Ahh, cheers thanks, I was obviously naughty and didn't watch all the way to the end :)
daxdadog If you have an efficient setup and only fly half throttle after take off 20mins can be achieved relatively easily with electronic motors.

Honey BooBoo Sadly most of the time someone interrupts you with some big edf jet or hotliner that destroys the atmosphere...
Big plane= big fuel tank = long flight time :) on my nitro 1.3m funflyer, it's about 10 minutes
so what are those things on the back of the floats?
1wsx10 those are rudders for the pontuns
oh, they steer in the water? neat
Good info, well done Thanks for sharing.
Sorry if this is a stupid question because I haven't kept up to date watching new videos but will flite test be at Joe Nall this year?
Camera Bird They have been talking about it & looking forward to it I think. If history has anything to do with it I bet this will be the best one yet for all envolved! Wish I lived closer.
Camera Bird We'll be there!
nice flying Allen and nice plain
Um, how do you give it left elevator?
if you roll the rudder just right you can get up enough speed-force to give it some left elevator. not a beginner move
Nice work guys!
can you do Q and A ep's ?
So cool. I would love to add floats to my plane. The plane and floats are incredibly stable.very cool
What area is this?
+NorCalDubber I think it is Lake Murray, just west of Columbia, SC. Alan has the Lexington County brogue down pat, and the shoreline sure looks like Lake Murray.
+circletree gorgeous area
... nice footage, guys :-) it's always nice to fly with water planes!
Remove the water rudder or build it to tip up off the water when taking off or landing.
Nice job on graphics guys
What lake is that is it atwoof
Trevor Zinda Lake Greenwood in South Carolina
the plane looks great and was flown very well, however, i noticed one thing that I have always kept in mind. Wood props and water do not get along very well if you happen to have a prop strike in the water. it would be a shame to loose such a nice engine due to a prop strike.
Comon guys We want Josh Scott like if you agree!
Where is that
Enjoyed the video!
He uses a chicken stick to start his plane!..... LOL
When in doubt, stab it out! Lol that's what we said growing up on dirt bikes lol and I still live by those words with flying.
Billyboy4209 Well, bikes use our butts as rudders. I learned that early and often and it went to my left thumb.
And if you do try to beat thair speed 104mph
nice video guys you inspire me to go out and fly
Nice engine sound!
Very nice video! What it didn't show you is how tricky it is when the wind isn't blocked and your plane is taxing away and doesn't have enough rudder to turn around. The weather-vane effect. Love float flying with a clipped cub. :^)
that's awesome. time to buy some pontoons.
Peters Tugboat = FloatTest.
IT WASNT JUST AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE
awesome !
I keep asking myself "how are those servos for the float rudders so small?"
FliteTest, you guys should make your own water based aircraft, a flying boat or a hydroplane with pontoons.
Theres always a hint of FloatTest in all the water episodes...
Least its not SinkTest
I'm still waiting to see the FT Cruiser on floats.
Beautiful plane😍
Awsome video
What an awesome plane!
pls make full size and ride it it would be cool
That is a sick plane!!
This is unrelated but was a cool idea
A bakingsoda volcano on a plane that erupts in mid flight
camera on the boat - best idea ever
Josh Scott is not dead actually. He's just too busy sometimes.
Just sayin'
I notice Alan is using a wooden prop, not ideal, wooden props can shred their tips if they contact the water.
ESTA GENIAL..!!
Dear flite test wanna send your old planes and quad from reviews to New Zealand for me?
Cheers
waiting for some phantom 3 action! :)
That's cool!
did he say Chainsaw engine?
Great, now i have this idea to build a plane with a godammn chainsaw engine.
nice!!
Love it
we demand episode about Peter's evil harpoon- plane.hijacking/rescuer boat-thing :D
You inspired me to do the hobby but im a dit of a noob but you normaly help me also my dad likes you to!
You guys should bring back the Josh&Josh episodes... Come on, I can't be the only one who thinks this, right!?
Where in Ohio did you find this guy and his north Georgia accent???? LOL
#RaisedInTheSouth
Cool
