I also search for reviews either before buying or even afterwards to see how others are getting on with the product. When I did this I couldn't see anyone swatching out the colours so hoped it would helpful.
Gorgeous mixes! Looking forward to getting my set in the post hopefully tomorrow! I have the half pan set too, and think this tube set does look more versatile looking at what you mixed up here. Thanks for sharing.
Intriguing setup & mixing palette. It intrigues me the most. I’d be tempted to add a granulating black to see what effects could be had, as well as a lemon yellow or cool red or…hmmm.
Did anyone else read the back of the box as saying "half empty pans"? 😂 I'm thinking 🤔 "Why would they only fill them half way?" 😵💫😅 Lovely paints, lovely review, lovely channel! ✅️ *Subscribed*
I do really like the mixes in this set, far more retro than the little box of eight. However I mistrust the longevity of any mix that includes that cochineal. A box for graphic style artists I think, or only those who do not display their work. I wonder if there is a pigment that will replicate what cochineal does that is lightfast…. I really love the cobalt blue and green, and now wonder whether I should have used my four extra half pans in the eight set for a different selection of colours.i really like the soft mid tones in this palette and the type of deeps it produces.very interesting palette, and would be interested to know what alternatives to cochineal others might suggest having seen what it does…. Fascinating, and I now see exactly why Schminke put this palette together. Still happy with what I bought though, but these are like something midway between gouache and watercolour. Lovely.
It does feel more retro than the palette of 8 half pans. I might have a play with some reds I have to see what might substitute cochineal for lightfastness. If you just make prints from your originals then lightfast issues are not a problem I guess.
Hi Michelle. Thanks for this. I was wondering if these are come lately new colours...but it seems they are just rebranded with vintage labels, is this correct CT? Cochineal is a true novelty. Is there an indication of lightfastness? The original Cochineal is totally fugitive, as far as I know. I ❤ your mixes, they remind me of the Kuretake Art Nouveau set...gorgeous muted colours. Thank you so much for the swatching.
Hello, I think the colours are reminiscent of the old masters and although not new are maybe not so favoured colours in the modern world where we use quinacridones . Cochineal is 2* lightfastness and the info says it has all the original features. The mixes were quite muted much like the old masters as well. I am glad you enjoyed the swatching. Thank you.
Thanks for replying @@MichelleMouldArtist I just checked, and I actually have the colours that come in the box. So I guess I just need to try that Cochineal, then. Thanks again!
Hey! Really liked the mixes! Both sets are very cool and tempting! If you could only get one which one would you pick? I really want the one with the half pans because the color selection is more familiar and I am in love with the tiny tin it comes in.. but I want this set too because of the unique red pigment!
If I could only pick one it would be the 5ml tubes because they were so versatile but I really love the tiny half pan tin hence I couldn't choose and have both. It was too hard to choose.
Thanks for the reply! By the way, I checked on Jackson's and both sets are now in stock, and Cochineal Red is available as a 15ml tube separately from the sets!
I really hate most of those colors. The cadmium yellow is bold and powerful. Same for cocheneal red. The rest are a chalky, ugly mess. Thanks for saving me from buying this. I will search out the cocheneal red on its own. Happy holidays!
Wow! I love the Cochineal and Cobalt Green mixture! 🤩 Thank you for your thorough review.
I'm glad it was helpful. It is a very good set.
What a fabulous little set! Great possibilities 👌
It really is so versatile. I am genuinely impressed.
Oooh these mixes are glorious! Absolutely love the turquoise & the purple you mixed up!
They are rather yummy mixes.
Just this morning, I was searching for a review on this set. 😊

It is a cute and versatile set. Enjoy yours when it arrives.

It does seem to lack a dark colour. I like a good paynes grey.
Good idea. Maybe some PBk11 which granulates too.
Thanks for a great review. It was great to help make up my mind.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video! Thank you!

This made me giggle thank you.
Great mixes🎉 - thank you so much!
I was amazed at how useful all the mixes would be.
Those mixes are lovely! I’m going to copy your chart for mixing, it’s very straightforward.
Please do!
That red is so pretty 😍
Yes it is shame it is limited edition but understandably so. I wish I could get another tube.
@@MichelleMouldArtistthe tube is available on its own from Jackson’s.
@lindyashford7744 ordered and thank you.

Such amazing colors, unusual. Your color mixes are fabulous 🎉. Where did you purchase?
Thank you. I purchased from Jacksons.
I tried ordering this set but unavailable. Darn. Hope that they bring it back.
I know Jacksons are sold out now. Might be able to get elsewhere . I'll have a hunt. Xx
Hi Diana you can get all of the 5ml tubes on Jacksons except for the cochaneal which is a 15ml. I can't find the set anywhere now though.
@@MichelleMouldArtist Thank you for the information 👍
@@dianaromig732it's back on Jackson's 😊
@@MichelleMouldArtist Thank you for helping me send my money 💰 😂
Can that tin be converted to take pans?
Unfortunately it can't because the part where the tubes are has a metal section to fit each tube.

The cochineal is a glorious colour. I love watching videos before making a purchase if possible too.
