Gus Grimly's boss in season 1 was Ben Schmidt. He was the sketchy cop who went with Lou to see the Gerhardts in this episode.

Yeah, if I'm told to get in a hole where hot asphalt will be poured onto me, I'm just gonna run and force them to shoot me instead. Better to die that way than how he went out. Fuck that.

Sisyphus was cursed (in Greek mythology) to push a stone up a hill every morning.
It would roll back down, every night.
And he had to push it back up every day, again.
Work forever and accomplish nuthin, is the story. Sounds familiar to me, ya know?
    Okay then.

Gus was a single parent, Lue had a wife even though she’s ill.
Lue’s character really started to shine in this episode, almost out of character from season 1 but I love!
Legion, the show Noah Hawley made after he created season 2 of Fargo. It shows a lot of the psychology tied to these characters. It’s an amazing show, probably the best pilot episode of any show I’ve ever seen

Ah I wish you wouldn’t cut my favorite part but it’s part of the job lol
That scene with lou and Dodd facing off is one of my fav of the entire 5 seasons. So fucking intense and lous just down to let it rang like brallik said, they messin with a WW2 man who saw way worse and acts like it never bothered him lol
Also its ironic to me i never noticed the first time we see type writer guy with mike, he assaults him with his own tie lol
And the VERY last info he gave (tho bs) was throwing mike under the table, so i think the shot formal was saying has to have meaning of the tie out of the rock pit in MY opinion (would love to hear others from fellow Fargo fans) was that the tie was hanging out because he lied on mike, and mikes just getting started, which is how he started with type writer guy, I think the tide was meant to symbolize, Milligan is far from done.

When the guy said the UFOs "always come in 3s" he was referring to the lights on each corner of those triangular shaped crafts a lot of people say they see. (Called TR3Bs allegedly.) They mentioned the alien thing in at the end of episode 2 as well - on the radio after Ed let Lou out of the butcher shop. The radio was talking about the possibility that they're studying us from afar.

1 of the 3 guys on the couch is called Roost Bolton - very similar name to Roose Bolton the Game of Thrones character.

There's a few reasons, nothing major, one's a little spoiler-ish, but a couple that aren't: Fargo has always been a show with a very heightened reality; this season is also set in 1979, where UFO "sightings" were at a record high, along with conspiracy theories and paranoia. Now, because of this, if you've seen the Fargo film, then the UFOs are essentially this season's Mike Yanagita (every season has one). Now, Mike in the movie met Marge for a drink, and he talked about marrying his high school sweetheart, and then she died, and he was so lonely. But later, you discover it was all bullshit, he made it all up. But if left the audience asking, "Why's this in the film? It has nothing to do with the film." (it does) - but the movie says, "This is a true story." The Coens put it in there because it 'happened'. Otherwise you wouldn't put it in there. The world of Fargo needs those elements: random, odd, truth-is-stranger-than-fiction elements.
