Composed by Eveline Novakovic. Recreated by me. This was made possible by locating the original instrument samples from workstation keyboards and drum machines before they were put into the game and rebuilding the soundtrack from the ground up, applying some modern mixing techniques along the way to lift the veil of 16bit compression and create an updated listening experience. DKC1 water levels: Relaxing.
DKC2 water levels: Dangerous.
DKC3 water levels: Mysterious.
I would say it’s a mix of both, but mysterious hits the nail on the head.
What says dangerous and relaxing more than mysterious? This track defines that statement for sure.

There's something mysterious about this song. Something I don't feel listening any other. The person who composed this masterpiece is a genius!

@@MaxStrike1988 Eveline Fischer is an insanely masterful composer and it pisses me off how underappreciated her work goes, especially since this game was only the last DK she did but I think it was her last score for any video game. I love David Wise to death, but everyone hails him as the DKC god when Fischer contributed just as much to the legendary trilogy.

You really should play the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy, if you haven't! They're such classics! Check out the song _Stickerbrush Symphony_ (DKC 2), which is my personal favorite! It's even better in the gameplay, and the gameplay is amazing, and the music is beautiful! These 3 games are "lightning-in-a-bottle" awesome!
This game is so unnapreciated. It may have some flaws compared to the previous ones, but it's still amazing in its own right, and the soundtrack is great as well. Thank you for these restorations. It's a reminder for me I should replay it one of these days.
Yeah, I always say that in defense of DKC 3. It might arguably be inferior to its predecessors, but it is VERY FAR from being a bad game. It is without a doubt one of the best titles in the SNES library.
Imo is the Best of the saga, we all love Dkc2 but this is superior in graphics enhancements and has a Epic Ost...
To me DKC 2 is the best and DKC 3 comes in second.

The only flaw of the game is Kiddy.
I know coral reefs indicate these levels are in relative shallows, but the music made me feel like I was the depth of a bleak, terrifying ocean trench
Especially on the level where the level gets dark until you hit the yellow fat fish.
@@NeoArashi Man, that level would _soooooooo_ benefit from being reworked into a modern DKC game by Retro. I can already imagine the deep flooded cavern terrain they'd create, with beautiful crystals in the background that shine bright like a diamond when the Gleamin' Bream is poked.

For me, Water World - best song in DKC3. And this restoration work, oh God, this is marvelous!!! DKC3 brings me so much that Christmas ambient, and I love it, because it was a gift in 1996... Thanks for your great work!!!
Same here! When these first came out, I got them during Christmas too! When that first cold front comes through every autumn, I play all three of these games! I also play Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past when autumn comes, too! I can feel the nostalgia, mixed with the seasonal change in my very soul! It's an indescribable feeling, and I love it! 🎮🎄
Got DKC3 along with Mario Paint on Christmas and I remember getting DKC2 along with Yoshi's Island on a previous Christmas.

I get why people like the GBA version better but man this is still such a good theme.

This track always felt rather dark for Donkey Kong to me. I actually think it would have been more fitting for a Metroid game.
I like to listen to it as a combination of the 2.
I feel like some of the other songs are dark too.
Eveline Fischer was the one who did the level themes in DKC3, David Wise did them for 1 and 2, which explains much of the shift

@@JASpiring I want to say that's because the GBA version had role reprised by David Wise for the sound engineer and composing. Might be wrong about that one.
I feel like this track is the perfect representation of DKC3. It's mysterious, almost uncanny even, which is how a lot of people viewed DKC3 due to it's big differences from the first 2 games. It's still a great song though, just like how DKC3 is still a great game.
DKC2 already had big differences from the first game. If you ask me, DKC3 is more similar to DKC2 than DKC2 is to DKC1.
DKC3 has some weird stuff, it feels dangerous and safe at the same time, the colour choices are all weird, I mean everything is colorful but they are not so vivid, they are kind of undersaturated, the bosses are weird too, the levels are just crazy, harmful and threatening yet you play as a blonde kid and a literal baby

Man, this song is powerful. I remembered some years ago I had just discovered creepypastas, and the very first one I read was about DKC 3. It had all those tropes of a gaming creepypasta: suspicious cartridge found at local pawn shop, "I had a feeling of dread looking at it", but since I was pretty much uninitiated in creepypastas, I didn't care. I thought that kind of stuff was superinteresting and creative (lol). But what really made an impression in me was that in the pasta it said the player entered level 1-1 in DKC and immediately found the body a dead kremlin laying on the woodboards of the stage, and instead of the usual Lake Orangatanga song, it was the Water World theme. I remembered the Water theme and pictured that scene in my head, and boy, that gave me the CHILLS. Just imagining that scene along with the first note of Water World was enough to hook me up on that terrible, but (to me at the time) fascinating story.
Now everytime I hear the first note of Water World I imagine Dixie doing her DKC 2 _meeting-the-boss_ expression to a dead kremlin in Lake Orangatanga, lmao!

Aquatic Ambiance gave a feeling of peaceful, relaxing fun underwater. Water World evokes the feeling of being underwater, dealing with the dangers and trials of exploring the deep ocean. I love the contrast.
This music was my jam when I was a kid playing DK3 all-day everyday in the 2000s

My favorites have been Nuts & Bolts, Bayou Boogie, Treetop Tumble, Mama Bird, Frosty Frolics & this one. (I’m very partial to DKC3).

Eveline Novakovich's composition style seemed to be much more melodic than symphonic, so her attempts to do Wise's style often came across a bit minimalist because she didn't quite seem to have as good of a grasp of the techniques he was using. I like her work for DKC3 personally, but I like it best when she's doing her own thing (the factory level theme being a major standout, absolute banger.)
That said, this track though.

_Lockjaw's Saga:_ Surface. *Mysterious*
_Aquatic Ambience:_ Shallow waters. Peaceful, but *Dangerous*
_Water World:_ Deep waters. *Hazardous*
The truth is that Lockjaw Saga would not count it as an aquatic level, well, yes, technically it is played swimming and there are fishes but it is a theme of a sunken ship, it is not like an Aquatic Ambience or Water World that takes place in a marine ecosystem, in fact David Wise confessed that Stikerbrush Symphony was going to be the theme for aquatic levels but since there wasn't any, they put it on the vine level.
Makes sense. On the map, every single level that has Lockjaw Saga is on a ship, broken down or not. Other levels do also share the water mechanic (like the Snapjaw levels and some of the Ice levels).
We mostly consider it as DKC2's "water level" simply because every level with it has swimming mechanics, and is marked by it
Technically, there's 4 themes for the ship lol

This tune makes me think about Carmen San Diego as a scuba diver on the first season episode; The Fishy Doubloon Caper where the following takes place in Ecuador, South America.

@@Gyomax9744 DKC is not known for it's plot anyway. DKC1 was just K Rool stole the banana hoard, get it back. DKC2 was K Rool has captured DK, get him back. DKC3 was DK and Diddy have been captured, get them back. It's no different to Mario always having to rescue Princess Peach Toadstool!

A couple of bars remind me of the Upper Norfair theme from Metroid 1 and Zero Mission.
With the restorations of Dave Wise tracks, I feel like he had so thoroughly optimized his samples for 16-bit compression that hearing those in HD was a little jarring/uncanny and I still kind of end up preferring the original. Here, Evelyn's work on this game (and DKC1 as well actually) had always sounded a little too "quiet" and slightly murky -- here, the HD quality seriously improves on the original and makes it "pop" in a way that better brings out the clarity of the composition. Thank you!
Yes. I feel like she struggled a bit more with the SNES limitations than David did. But these restorations really do bring out the best of her compositions.

@@blacktainfalcon7097 Yep, you're right! She did most of the work for the soundtracks for _DKC3,_ and some of the tracks for _DKC._ Thank you for the correction! David Wise did most of the soundtracks for _DKC,_ all of the soundtracks for _DKC2,_ and a little work on the soundtracks for _DCK3._ He has made a lot of soundtracks for quite a few games, like the _Battletoads_ series. Either way, they're both amazing composers!

@@ValiTheSaltMan I haven't played the ones for GBA, despite playing all 3 for the SNES, and completing them all-100% (I know, it's 101*%, like in DKC, etc.). Anyways, I need to play them on an emulator, which I do have. I can find the roms. I _literally_ just finished a true classic and very nostalgic GB game of mine from when it first came out: _Metroid II: Return of Samus,_ finding _every_ item, _and_ I actually finished it in 2:59 hours! So, Samus' suit comes off at the end, after the credits by 1 minute! I wasn't speedrunning, either. If I had reached 3:00 hours or more, I wouldn't have got the nice bikini ending! Are the GBA DKC games great like the ones for the SNES? If so, I really want to play them!

I would love to hear some remakes of the gba dk3 soundtrack too. The songs are amazing there but the gba sound quality is atrocious. They would benefit a lot from some jammin Sam Miller work.
Riggles1 has been remaking the GBA soundtrack, though only three songs have been uploaded and they haven't been able to upload any more since last February due to life getting in the way.
Yeah it was really weird how they basically censored the OST, but the replacing one definitely wasn't bad.

"I couldn't do the DKC3 SNES OST justice on the GBA - which has tiny speakers and a very limited bandwidth. It just didn't translate - at all. So the compositions and instrumentation were made specifically for the hardware - the hand-held GBA."
I've also heard (in the DKC3 Remake or Rebreak video) that the GBA is terrible at playing deep bass tones, and the heavy presence of bass is the reason why the SNES OST couldn't be ported.

But every game on the GBA sounded like shit because it didn't have a dedicated sound chip and sound had to fight for memory or something.

dkc1 water level music: Calm and atmospheric
dkc2 water level music: Tense but also upbeat in a way.
