A tip I learned from my old instructor, when you get out of your seat, remember to air your seat down so it's easier to get back in. Or, since you're a mechanical fellow like me, find a seat air dump pressure switch so when you leave the seat, the air dumps automatically. Glad you're one of us now Rich!
@@moparjr89 i know the higher end seats have the switch built in and that's a nice feature. I had swapped my seat in my last truck with a legacy low and installed a switch from a MCI J4500 so it auto-dumped when i got out of the seat. I miss that

I can attest to this. I got my drivers license at 21 after overcoming my fear and my examiner and I shot the shit and I was pretty chill the entire time.

This was a fun series to watch. My family owned a KW dealership back in the '80s, when I was a toddler, and I remember those trucks from when they were new. Congratulations on getting your license Rich! The rules you have to know now are insane. I got my combination license back in 1983 and added all the specialty certificates along the way. Congratulations Rich! Thats awesome you got to use your own truck! I got my CDL license 6 months ago here in the states and they definitely put you through the ringer. Our class was 160hrs. I'd hate to do it over again!
as someone who drives a b model every day look into putting an old brakesaver on it to supplement your jakes those jakes are about as useful as a paper bag hanging out the window while loaded
I've been driving for 32 years and I've never had the chance to drive a cabover myself. My grandfather was a truck driver and when I was a kid way back in the 70's, I would go with him all the time. He did drive a couple cabovers. One was a White Freightliner and the other was a Diamond Reo. I loved that view from way up high. She's a beauty of a Kenworth Rich and hopefully I'll pass you on the highway someday.
I found this interesting to see. Similar to a pilot check flight for a private pilot license in aviation. Stressfull, detailed... good to verbalize everything you are doing and thinking about.
Congrats on your CDL from over here in the states! I'm literally cruising I-5 in California in my Peterbilt right now, this video brought back many memories of long ago when i was super nervous doing my drive test. I'm guessing there wasn't any backing, 90 degree, or parallel trailer parking section in your driving test? Cuz that $hit was no joke, it was a pain in the A!!😅
I got my CDL back in ‘83 - it was absurdly easy when compared to today. I gave it up when I moved to Maryland from Florida. I wasn’t driving a truck anymore since I had graduated from college and the BS to keep it was not worth the trouble. Now of course 10 years later when I got laid off I sure wished I had kept it.
Congratulations Rich, I’m super stoked for you that everything worked out and you got your license. I’m looking to try and get my heavy goods vehicle license over here in the UK.
Good job! I got my class 1 3 years ago, the week before my road test ICBC changed it from " one tire on the curb is allowed " to " no rubbing allowed at all ". I 100% feel like the basic 40 hours required to take the test wasn't enough for me yet I somehow passed
Bro.....first time watching your content, I love old trucks, thats why I tuned in.....but at the end you show up with a VGG cap on.....AWESOME! Just got yourself another sub!!!
Congratulations Rich. As I've said before, love the truck. How about some 7" stainless rain flappers on your stacks? The buckets are cool but not that cool. Best regards from Indiana, USA.
I know the feeling. When i got my cdl b license, i was nervous and i failed the first time. When i took it the second time i pass because i was more relaxed. But funny enough 6 years later i went for my cdl a and i was nervous again and making stupid mistakes. I knew i failed but i talked to the instructor at the end and told him that i went all this time with my cdl b without a ticket or accident and i don't drive like this. I told him just my nerves. He gave me a few minutes and told me that he trusted me and pass me. I was super happy. 10 years later still driving and i love it
Congratulations welcome to the trucking industry I've been doing this for 60 years I can remember when that tractor you driving was brand new at the dealers
Congrats on the licence. As a former driving instructor here in New Zealand I can tell you that there is always going to be 1 fault they will pick you up on, mirrors. I would tutor my student to have a rotation, left mirror, gauges, right mirror. Our instructor guide line says this should be every 7 - 10 seconds. The second most common is checking blind spots, make a visible look as you look over your shoulder as you pull out from a kerb etc.

Congratulations Rich! Thats awesome you got to use your own truck! I got my CDL license 6 months ago here in the states and they definitely put you through the ringer. Our class was 160hrs. I'd hate to do it over again!
Congratulations Rich from Massachusetts. Very well put together video. Now on to the next project. Thanks for sharing.
Happy for you that you passed Rich. I never realized how much schooling and training there is to prepare to take the test.
as someone who drives a b model every day look into putting an old brakesaver on it to supplement your jakes
those jakes are about as useful as a paper bag hanging out the window while loaded
That is great. Congrats Rich. Good you had a decent examiner.
Congrats on getting your Cdl A. The truck looks amazing
Rich it's amazing work that you do really like how you explain everything.
Congrats Rich, well deserved....... Y'all take care.
Deadly! Good for you man, way to stick with it. Must feel real good!
Congrats mate, you can see how happy you are.
I found this interesting to see. Similar to a pilot check flight for a private pilot license in aviation. Stressfull, detailed... good to verbalize everything you are doing and thinking about.
Congrats Rich! Strong work man.
Congratulations. I am very happy to hear you now have earned your licence.
Please be sharp. The real test starts now.
I had the same instructor when I got my license in Brantford, highly recommend KRTS :) keep er save good sir
Congratulations Rich, I’m super stoked for you that everything worked out and you got your license.
I’m looking to try and get my heavy goods vehicle license over here in the UK.
Congrats sir! The truck came out amazing, and so happy that you're licensed to drive it!
Glad you made it!!👍
great job getting the lisence and good luck trucking!
When I took my test I went over a curb, I thought I was done but he said you looked and took it slow and I passed. 👍🏼
Yes! Flappers! ting ting ting ting 👍
Aren't those intakes?
@@benzlover55 i think they are, which leaves the question of how does the water stay out of the intake, also flaps are cool he needs rhem
@@skonky buckets are only open on the bottom
Congratulations Rich
I know the feeling. When i got my cdl b license, i was nervous and i failed the first time. When i took it the second time i pass because i was more relaxed. But funny enough 6 years later i went for my cdl a and i was nervous again and making stupid mistakes. I knew i failed but i talked to the instructor at the end and told him that i went all this time with my cdl b without a ticket or accident and i don't drive like this. I told him just my nerves. He gave me a few minutes and told me that he trusted me and pass me. I was super happy. 10 years later still driving and i love it
Well done, hope to see the old girl someday. Congratulations on the license
Congratulations welcome to the trucking industry I've been doing this for 60 years I can remember when that tractor you driving was brand new at the dealers
Well done Rich !! Congratulations and a beauty truck 🎯🎊🤗
That's One Absolutely Beautiful old KW !
Nice truck Rich, tons of work, has been great watching the project, but your work shows in the final results!
Congratulations on getting your license
