So glad to be a part of this boys! I put a ton of work into the old cabover, but I have to be honest. It wasn't near as much fun driving home after experiencing how effortlessly Topsy moved the tank....
Will your truck be the first big truck conversion?
I am glad to see innovation in this sector. Hybrid trucking and alternative fuels are the way of the future for sure. Definitely disappointed it is not coming out of the US, but also not surprised given the sad state of our auto manufacturing.
I am sure I was not the only one but, after seeing the first video I suggested that they get in touch with you because you have always been so gracious with other RUclipsrs and eager to help, which is one of the reasons I watch your channel.
sounds like ur doing a 3rd truck with a conversion 😂
That’s a beautiful cab over you have through. That think looks amazing! Probably more fun shifting gears though
I think you’re right though, once truckers drive this it’s all they’re going to want, after hauling a load with it I’m certain it’s going to change the entire industry
Deboss, and Edison are now officially Canadian Royalty!
I'm so glad you let Rich drive her.
I know what you market is, but when is the
Cabover Sleeper, street version of Topsy coming out?
Imagine Rich's truck, with a flat floor/no dog box?
Diesel engine behind the cab, not under it.
Just batteries under there, for heat, and AC.
Congratulations Boys!
I’m glad Rich talked us into hauling a load
@@EdisonMotors
It was Epic!
Now we just need AvE in on it, but I am not that sure how good old Peg-leg will feel about it.
Probably coming as soon as they get retrofit business running
Yes, COE with engine out back. That would be cool. An oilfield truck crane was coe with the engine set back. Man that was a roomy four wide front seat sitting over the front wheels.
the software, the frame and everything. What a massive accomplishment fellas and i want one now
Topsy was like " when are ya gonna load me up there bud? "
Yeah, she didn’t notice this load behind her at all
Good to see other truck drivers driving the Edison trucks. Gives credibility to the truck. 👍🏽
This is the crossover episode we all needed. Congratulations on the accomplishment, great to see!
DeBoss has now released their episode on this day! Check it out on their channel!
Absolutely mind boggling. I wish I could see this work of art in person just to see how far technology has come. I'm on the fence about replacing my cummins pickup but something like this? Amazing
13:32 When DeBoss turns round to check the trailer is actually attached, as he cant believe how easy the pull-away was.... 😅
11:45 "Like it's not even there..." and that shot had Topsy completely blocking the trailer😂
Rich would be a great guy to get involved with Edison such a talented guy
You should take this truck to Maine and try er out on the Golden Road! Miles and miles of dirt roads, where you could haul 200000+ and really push this to the limits. No DOT regs or law to stop you from continuing your testing.
Love the build!
This is what American Engineering and innovation is all about! Proud to see your work and celebrate your achievement.
Absolutely amazing work
the pure joy i just got to experience was a delight. You guys rock
Incredible - what a great first load
Congratulations! Chase and Edison Motors Team. Long road to get here and still more to travel. Sky’s the limit!! Looking forward to see the future progress 😊
Eagerly looking for what could be the possible MAX load it could possibly haul 😊
I don't think you can get much better advertising than that "You made me hate my Truck, jackass" 😂😂😂
They should put that on a t-shirt. 😅
Easily the future of heavy hauling, so cool to see this happening in my lifetime! The combination of 2 great technologies for the best of both worlds!
So how much of the battery did you use to do this?
I can't wait to see more testing of this
I would love a video of them hauling with it eventually, showing telemetry of SOC, Current usage like they discussed here, and stuff like that, overlaid in editing maybe. I think that would be a fascinating video to watch.
That’s a good idea!
I'm curious about that too, I didn't hear the engine kick in at all. I guess from the website that they're offering both a pure EV and the hybrid option? The smallest battery on their site is 175 kwh on the L500 hybrid version. They said about 20 kW to pull the tank, so at that low speed on level ground the smallest possible battery would have lasted 8 hours? Granted they're just tooling around and not going on a highway. But I kept thinking, it's a giant Prius, if it was my Prius it would have kicked on the gas engine lol. Love to see EV stuff like this!
Please make a shirt that says, "It did the THING."
Have you guys had the generator running yet? I don’t remember seeing a video on that topic. But seeing as how Carls generator worked, I think the generator is the least of the worries.
Congratulations and thank you for being more descriptive in the explanation of the weight being gross 100k
It's almost erie how quiet it is for It's size.
Absolutely awesome congrats to the Edison team!
God that K100 they restored is absolutely beautiful. I can't stop looking at the Cabover. Man, I'm so happy for y'all! I've always wondered why nobody ever tackled the heavy truck market with a set like Topsy. I always looked at locomotives & they way they were set up, & went huh, why not make a heavy truck set up like that. And y'all went a similar way as that. The fact you don't look at diesel as the world apocalyptic monster as almost everyone else in the EV virtue signaling space.
Beautiful thing to see, guys that is future.
It's very surreal watching this truck move virtually silently while moving such a massive load. Aesthetically it looks like the sort of truck you'd expect to see doing the jobs it's designed for. The Tesla semi looks fine in urban environments but you'd think it was lost if you saw it out in the sticks
Absolutely amazing my man. This is the ingenuity this world needs to break the mold to solve issues.
Keep up the amazing work.
Amazing guys - its almost spooky how quiet it is.
That truck pulls like a ten year old boy ! 🤣
I’m up way too late for west coast time😅
Wow - very cool.... good luck guys - you're really on to something here!
Rich, checking to see if the trailer was still there. Lol!
It really felt like there was nothing behind us
wow impressive launch at 12:13! Stoked to see more.
Next week on Tesla TV: Watch our Tesla Semi move an Abrams tank
you guys were having so much fun that when Rich said where do you want me I thought it would be a good time for a super Dave Osbourne stunt.
You’re gonna make me wanna go back Truckin if you bring this thing to the market! Be the perfect float truck to move equipment!! P.s. your engineers will be fine. Don’t worry about them.. lol
You’re the most amazing CEO ever!!! ❤❤❤
Good to see it going up some hills with a good load
Great edit, keep up the good work!
This truck is amazing. Next up, call Doug Demuro to come do a quirks and features shoot and give it a Doug Score!
Awsome seeing my 2 favorite channels colab
its so quiet, I love it.
no buzzer wig wag is the best !!
It's almost like you need a fake shifter just to limit the wheel power output so you don't spin em off a stop
You guys are like the multiverse version of Trailer Park Boys. Trucks and motors instead of dope and jail.
keep up the good work
If this design really takes over, the trailers themselves may have to be redesigned. The hitch would be located further back. All the space between the cab and trailer could be used.
Or the hitch could be moved forward, if possible.
Can’t wait to hear about the long haul test.
lts like everytime l see this truck in action l m just like wow what cant it do ? GREAT JOB BOYS
Awsome for sure, can't wait to see a real world pulling video of on highway speeds pulling hills, holding control down grades and so on.
This is way more fascinating than what Tesla does.
Holdup, the tesla semi does not even haul close to the max capacity for a truck here in the Netherlands, you lot are with the first test less then 5 (metric) ton off that, idk what one axle would pull but i would suspect a version with one unpowered rear axle would be plenty for most uses that people seem interested in
How long has Tesla been working on his Semi? And how much money? This is truly a testimony to real people working on real problems and not some rich troll that only cares about his own ego. That being said this is a pretty basic test. Let's get her out on a highway and up to speed for a couple hours.
just came here from deboss just to say how cool this truck is!
Just incredible, well done!
Love this! But i wanna see the power data in the video! :P
ace, you guys "really did a thing" - as intended.
Now to beat Janus Motors max tonnage - iron ore country superquads top over 200tonnes (that is near infinity pounds - jk).
Funny comment below - slogans such as: "Like a truck but better."
At 45tonnes - the beauty of electric motors (with the right gearing for the task) takes off like a sportcar - just like all performance EVs.
(the feature of electric drive is that, if you need a nertain level of torque at any revs, it will be there (nearly constantly) from stall, so the peak power is "that" level of torque x peak revs (motor or hub, the difference will just be 10% or so...)....
- though Chace has denigrated traction control (I appreciate the comedy, and appreciate the utility of ice and mud chains in heavy going), I expect that it will be a feature - integrated by Flodraulic into the ESC/inverter controller - very useful fow windows up driving in slippery conditions, now the throttle is just a "go-pedal".
05-10 superduty’s would be a fantastic conversion candidate. F450 & 550 specifically.
I hope this venture succeeds! Electric motors powered be diesel engine generators have been proven in the railroad and mining industry for decades as a more efficient and cost effective way to move massive loads. The power and torque are immediately available to start moving the load and climbing steep grades, this is where diesels consume more fuel. If I owned a trucking company I’d be one of the first to start changing out the fleet to this truck. The cost savings in fuel alone over the first year would offset any initial cost. There’s huge trucking companies going out of business and small operations are being crushed with the cost of fuel and have been closing up shop at an alarming rate. I hate seeing it. I’ve got many friends who’ve been having the devil of a time with it and I think y’all are gonna answer a lot of prayers and level the playing field again. This may have just saved the trucking industry, time will tell but you’ve got a great idea and fantastic machine that may help turn things around.
I’m impressed. How the heck did it not snap an axle shaft when you gave it the beans. Can you make a video removing the axles to see if they are twisted?
Have you thought of putting drive axles onto the trailer your towing. Could go with lighter axles on the truck and also get regenerative braking on the trailer. Also could carry a battery on the trailer.
Bring on the pickup kit! I’ll absolutely put it on my ‘91 F350 7.3 IDI!!! You want a test truck let me know!
This is definately cool
Well Done!, U guys are awespme! Keep it up Cheers!
Just don't let whistling diesel get his hands on it😂😂😂
That was awesome 😎
I had no idea i needed to install my sa200 under the hood in my chevy instead of in the bed like every other albertan. So much more room for activities!
So when do we get to see the big super load behind topsy
I love the fact that this truck pulling 100K Pounds around uses less power than some SUV use just driving around
Hybrid trucks are truly the future of long haul and remote trucking. Hopefully as Hydrogen infrastructure improves H could be used for the range extender since it's basically an inefficient but compact and quick filling battery.
"We've spent over $1.5mil designing... "
Nikola has left the chat
Well done!
TESLA did it on the highway, but I like your truck it's super!👍😉
i keep being like oh they dont have the audio from the truck because i dont even hear the wheels moving on the gravel, but then hearing the breaks .... damn thats so quiet, and you totally did a burn out with 100k lbs, clearly you need to put 150k on it and see what it does ;P
I'd like to see 'em deliver a CAT D11 like in the aerodynamics vid, but Topsy needs all her calibration and tests and certificates and papers before they could even consider somthing like a 250,000lbs. doser as a load.
Ya made it big bois!!! @linus tech tips engineer @alex Dick representing you guys with your hat in their vids 🎉🎉🎉
I think this design would eliminate frame twist under acceleration. This is the way every vehicle should be built. I would love it if my car's engine was only there to charge the batteries. I would have saved so many thousands.
cant wait to buy one, please make a sleeper and i promise ima order one as soon as possible
Grats to the Edison Crew, also is there any plan to do a sleeper version of this beast in the future?
There's a video of a concept for a 6x6 with a sleeper.
I'm not a fan of the center seating position but glad to see someone doing a hybrid setup. Its a bit heavy too but hey gotta start somewhere! :) Would love to see it pulling ~43T of Super-B's and a drop-in kit so I could take all the parts and put them all in an old Pete/KW/Frt/etc. Been watching you guys for a while now, i'm tempted to build a similar setup using an old ~50's pickup.
Heavy for what? A standard logging truck is around 30k pounds. Which is about what this truck weights. For the job it was built for, this is within spec
@@caodesignworks2407 heavy for pulling super-b's around here. We weigh usually 19K-21K including empty trailers.
@@NVMDSTEvilIt's not made for you. He made it for his work load. If you don't need all the power, you can drop a drive axel. If you don't need 1/2 inch frame rails, you can use thinner rails.
This a prototype made for the exact purpose of being a prototype. They've discussed weight many times.
@@NVMDSTEvil I had the truck weight wrong. It's about 26k lbs.
And because it's all prototype, the majority of the truck is built with plate steel and angle iron. You're nit picking a prototype that wasn't built with you in mind.
@@caodesignworks2407 I think you read my comment wrong, im not nitpicking, im looking forward to improvements and changes that will make it competative for guys like me in the future. I meant 19k-21k kg before btw, just didnt type the kg i guess. Our loaded weight is typically 63,500kg.
That’s the craziest thing watch it move around with no engine noise…
This is awesome!
let me know when you get start selling shares. missed out on tesla stock 17 years ago. vivdly remember asking my dad to buy tesla stock when they first want public when i was 14 y/o. but we never did. defo not missing out on edison trucks stock this time !
Is there a reason the hood is so high up? Why not sloped a bit for increased visibility?
That annoys me about the electric vehicles of the 2020s. The Motor is not there anymore or much smaller i expect a much steeper and lower hood. I hope the Firms get rid of the Frunks.
The Cybertruck is a step in the right direction in hood design. Or look at the Canoo and VW Buzz, that how most Vehicles should look like in the future, idk if its too bad for aerodynamics to adopt it.
Who’s the other guy in the cab when they first start driving? He part of Edison?
That’s Eric Little, Chase’s Business Partner, and Co-Founder of Edison Motors. He’s Also Chief Technical Officer
@@EdisonMotorsthe guy I've been in contact with! Cool!
I think another good publicity stunt would be taking it to truck pulls lol
Came here for the Sherman/ squarebody combo; what's its destiny...?
This is an electric truck I would 100% be willing to drive. Screw the tesla semi!
Any thoughts on drive units mounted on the trailer? Extrs Re-gen for down hill and added off-road traction.
Awesome!
great job.. love the concept
Edison motors, no bs just trucks.
this is just SUPER COOL
Awe I just wanna hug Chace so bad! What an amazing accomplishment
I hauled 104 thousand pounds on a 4964 EX with a C15 675 HP Cat for thousands of miles an I still passed up company trucks going up hill. I drove 2 million miles with that 07 western star so you have a long way to go to prove that those electric motors will last a million miles! By my experience electric motors under torque thy last half the life of a Internet combustion engine when we use 1000 hp electric motors on a shredder.
Well the only way to find out is take it out on the road on a few hills then I’ll give you credit ..In 1971 I drive a Mack cool power hauling triple trailers of salt it was 120 tonnes ,when I see it pulling a few hills I’ll give you 👍👍👍❤️.But you are trying kudos to you 👍👍👍👍👍🦘🇦🇺🇦🇺
Not only does it move with ease, it does it quietly. You can hear the tires break loose. The frame isn’t twisting from the load on the engine. It’s not jerking on a clutch, taking up driveline slack. It just goes. If you ever need a second tag line for Edison “You made me hate my truck” is a good one.
That is a good tags line 🤣
@@EdisonMotors"It'll make you hate your truck."
@@ARepublicIfYouCanKeepIt It'll make you hate your old truck. :)
Seriously though we have two 4x4 SUV's up here and diesel one feels like going back in to the dark ages after driving a while with electric version. Starting up and hearing the engine, then shifting the gears and if you press pedal then waiting for the turbo to spool up to give you power, that's all unnecessary and gets annoying very fast if I've been driving electric for awhile. Thank god the future is here :D
You need to include the full quote though, or else it's just not as good...
"You made me hate my truck, jackass" 😂
Well done boys! Freaking awesome work
If you make a quad axle dump truck im in
A big part of that effortless feel is no twist to the chassis as there's no torque coming from the front. The truck itself is along for the ride while the E axles do all the work. Brilliant piece of engineering.
Congrats to the Edison crew
Perhaps more importantly they have no torque from the drive shaft twisting on the ball trying to lift one set of wheels. The traction on all 4 set of duals should be about the same and yet they managed to break a set loose.
Indeed, the entire of the loading is in the axles.
im shocked at how quiet it is

Electric trucks will be great for local runs until improvements are made in the power density of batteries.
@slingblade01 umm do you know how Topsy works? If you got diesel and hill for regen, you got power for more range coming in
@@slingblade01 With current setup with the two diesel fuel tanks. Topsy should be good for 1200 miles, that is not a local drive. Batteries have insane POWER Density, that 200kWh pack could easily kick out 1000kW 1341 horsepower. Energy capacity density of batteries is not critical with a Diesel Generator.
It's just brilliant seeing Topsy hauling that trailer and load like it's nothing. Well done! And all for $1.5 million - that's truly insane.
1.5 mil is a lot, but in terms of engineering and development and building for a project like this...damn. Someone has a good head for budgets.
@@kugelblitz1557 $1.5m is a lot to you and me, but it wouldn't even set up the offices for the other automotive start ups! They do indeed have a good head for budgets. The money went where it was best spent for sure.
@@kugelblitz1557 Really the most sad thing about this is 1.5 is nothing in terms of R&D, any number of large companies could have brought this product to us multiple times over for the price of their yearly golf tournament. The mining industry for example has had electric drive for decades now, generally in much bigger vehicles, batteries have been coming in bigger packs and higher capacity for years now. And not to take away Edisons thunder here, they have done an amazing job here, but why did some tiny company in the middle of nowhere Canada have to do this? Any number of companies should have put this product on the road in the last few years.

First of all: congratz on the best first load in the history of electric trucking. Elon, eat your heart out! Secondly: the total look of disbelief and pure enjoyment on your faces was brilliant.
