I was at this concert at The Empress Hall in 1956. I was 19 at the time and in the middle of my National Service in the RAF. It was a wonderful experience seeing Louis Armstrong and his band in the flesh. I'm 86 now and can't believe it was 67 years ago when I was there. There can't be many people still alive who were lucky enough to see this concert. My Dad got to know Louis Armstrong in 1932 when he visited Great Britain and I still have a wonderful photo of my Dad and Louis and his crew on the beach at Brighton. It was my Dad who arranged a VIP trip from my RAF base in Hereford to see the concert with ringside seats and an introduction to Louis. Have you any more footage from the concert, as I would love to see it if possible. Ronnie Newman
it looks all easy and simple, but it is more sophisticated than one would think at first sight. Louis Armstrong taught singers a lot about phrasing! How charming he was! Glad that Sinatra hosted his talent.
To have Frank Sinatra cheerleading in the corner is praise enough. But, to make practically every song you do, your song, well... that's why Louis is one of those top artists of all time.
Let's hear it for what ever form of reproduction they used on tv in 1952 so that this fine live performance didn''t disappear into the ether like so many from this period. Armstrong first recorded the tune in 1930 with the big band he was working with int he Los Angeles area at that time and again in1939. 15 broadcast radio or tv performances including this one between 1940 and 1970. All are in Michael Minn's discography.
Love Love Love!!!!!! All time favorite. None compare to his unique voice and scat singing and oh cannot forgot his trumpet. If only i was alive in his time to see the wonderful music by him and other great artists

#ClassicMonday #JazzVocals #Standard
I'm confessing that I love you Tell me do you love me too? I'm confessing that I need you Honest I do, I need you every moment In your eyes I read such strange things But your lips deny they're true Will your answer really change things? Making me blue I'm afraid, someday you'll leave me Saying can we still be friends? If you go, you know you'll grieve me All in life, on you depends Am I guessing that you love me? Dreaming dreams of you in vain? I'm confessing that I love you Over and over again

This man was a genius. Regarding timing as a singer, he was unequalled. And that trumpet!! And that scat!!
it looks all easy and simple, but it is more sophisticated than one would think at first sight.

I didn't even notice the man on the left was Frank until I read your comment- my eyes were on Louis!

Louis's trumpet intro is stellar! He was always laughing and smiling. Such a joyful performer. What a legend!
What a treasure he was !
It's just impossible for me to see that without crying in front of The king of jazz
Yeah, I occasionally run into this video and tear up every time. (Conn 80a 1935)
I can’t see it without smiling 😊
Maybe Leonard Bernstein was right stating he is the greatest musician produced by American in the 20th century.
@@isaackahn7188 Not "maybe".
The good old days! The great Louis Armstrong and a beautiful woman to his right.
Five years before I was born. Amazing!
Fabulous - imagine seeing this live on TV on a Saturday evening....
What a beautifully talented man. Rest well King.
I wish the video to the whole show was available. There is no one like Louis Armstrong.
So much talent and love in one person. That's Louis Armstrong.
The best male jazz singer ... a space for second ... who comes third?

I wonder how much the trumpets he played go for these days at the auction.
All in mueseums I believe, there's videos of people playing them
Great performance...had to ruin it by scatting at the end. Thanx 4 posting!
excellent performance
CHI E' IL JAZZ? ARMSTRONG E PARKER !
oppisin minäkin soittamaan vetopasunaa yhtä hyvin.
I'd like to know who all these people are behind the piano.
@Yakov Shani Wow! I'm humbled. I remember her from her game show years but never knew she had a jazz background
Is the girl behind Pops at 0:47 Doris Day ?
No it's not.
Doris Day did sing this song herself though.
He would be embarrassed by his race today....JMPO...FYIYDLI!....
Frank who?
Makes me uneasy that he had to make all those weird faces to entertain them white folks
Bill BanDoh Funny thing is... he made those same faces for black audiences. He was an entertainer.
Austin Casey Do you have any footage of that. Possibly performing in Harlem or places alike
What the hell? He didn't have to. that's louis armstrong...
