I just completed a nursing assistant program & one of my friends works for dialysis asked me if was interested in training to be a tech. How was the training process? Was it very hard ? I’m looking into if I want to go into it 🙂
I am considering this path too. I am a nursing student and a couple of my classmates are dialysis techs. I want something that will provide me with hands-on patient experience before I become an RN. My school does go to clinicals but I want an actual job where I can get involved and also something that has the potential to turn into an RN position once I graduate.
I see you are doing conventional dialysis. Used to be a water tech for Nxstage pureflows. I was signed off to set up a cycler for treatment but not stick the patient. Also a delivery driver for the same dialysis company. My mom works for US renal and has been a nephrology nurse for 40 years. I miss it. Going into EKG/ECG.

I know I’m YEARS late to this video but I’m thinking of applying for a PCT position at a dialysis clinic next year. You mentioned 3 shifts. I know those vary from clinics but could you clarify what those shifts are. I have small children so I’m second guessing my desire to enter the field based on shift lengths and lack of childcare
Hi! Yes every facility is different. I would probably ask the hours of the clinics nearby or the one you are thinking of going to. And I can say that It's a bit of a challenge for me having small children as well. Just because you start so early in the morning. But if you have support from family that would actually change everything! But yea I would start with asking what the hours first then decide if you want to get into it. Hope this helps! =)
Is being EMT certified enough medical experience to be a Dialysis technician? Also, what time is the hands-on training? Is it at 4 a.m. too? Please answer. I'm getting interviewed next monday.
Having medical background is great! But theres a separate training to be a Dialysis Technician. Your facility will let you know with your training schedule. It might be different in every clinic. Goodluck on your interview!!👍
@@vincentchaeruka definitely but my second round of interview is remaining. Once done & if I got selected then I start my on job training first then able to work independently. Let's see🤗.
@@KRIZIAYANEZA last question, the business hours vary over here from 445-8pm and every other day 7am-1pm. Is that due to how many shifts of patients there are? And if not, why are the hours different every other day?
@@krystlemiles3213 So every facility don't have the same hours. Most facilities are open Monday - Saturday. But tues, thurs, saturdays are mostly shorter days than Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays because shorter days have lesser patients and shifts.
I apply at Davita for some reason I have been denied I'm a CNA/MA I work at a hospital as PCT I apply since the post said they train you for PCT and still got denied 😭
That happened to me with Fresenius! They specifically say on the website that you don’t need to have any healthcare experience at all and will train you. I’ve been a CNA for 3 years I got rejected :(
Keep trying i applied at Davita 2 months ago they said position filled its one closer to my house I applied Sunday and the next day they offered a interview which is today 🙏🏾
What is the starting salary? Do they pay above $20? I’m currently working as CNA and being paid $20/hr. I was thinking to switch career if this job pays more.
Mikkha, it depends on the state and area in the state. California pays more because of the cost of living. I googled the average salary and it is $25 per hour. But some states are more and some are less. Don't go into a career just for the money. Be sure it is something you enjoy. The hardest part for the dialysis technician is learning to be skilled at placing the needles in the dialysis access (usually in the arm). If you get good and that you will excell.
I can answer any dialysis questions you have and teach u whatever u need to know. IVE BEEN IN DIALYSIS 23 YEARS NOW. LEAVE YOUR QUIESTION IN MY COMMENT I CAN ANSWER FOR YOU.
Chronic kidney disease here. I have been researching if/when this does happen to me. Really quite interesting and neat. There's resources on the Internet for those who are curious, or even watching this video. :)
Hi! I have a question! I’m going through training rn to become a tech and my teacher has told us you WILL get pricked by needles from other patients, it just happens. Throughout the entirety of your career has this happened to you?
The problem is a "dirty needle" that has been used on another person. If you are careful and follow the procedure you should not have that problem. When you draw up medications like heparin that needle is sterile (so no other person's germs). You throw that needle away because it got contaminated when it pricked you. But you are not at risk for a blood borne disease. Hope that helps.
I've been hesitant being a dialysis pct/tech. Is it true that dialysis patients are hard sticks? I'm a phlebotomist who works in a hospital and I know it's not for me. I'm over it. Can you guys tell me of the pros and cons of working for a dialysis center?
There are patients that are hard stick, but not all of them! 🙂 Just like working in any medical careers there are pros and cons. It really depends on your situation. My pros and cons might be different from yours. But its long hours 12+ or less at times and ofcourse you will encounter difficult patients, we just gotta be professional and learn how to deal with them. You will work with an awesome team that will help you throughout the journey. Dialysis is not for everyone. But I feel like once you get the hang of it it's really not that bad! I love it! After working in dialysis for years it still amazes me how we can make such a difference in their lives.🙂
I was a dialysis technician for 3 years before I became an RN . And let me say that Dialysis pct WORK there butt off . It is a very hard job. I will always have my pct back because I know how much hard work it is especially during turn overs. Def try to go back for nursing or whatever it is that you may want to do in the future. ♥️

If you can get into a hospital you should be good. I knew a lot of people that would rather stay at tech because the nurse pay was bad and it’s hard to transition into other types of nursing after being a dialysis nurse.

At least 40 a week.
It happens. Rarely but it does. Happens to everyone.
I have poked my self before, drawing heparin. But, it not unusual.

Good morning, I've been in healthcare for many years, started as a EMT, then worked phlebotomy for almost 15 years. Now I'm starting a Dialysis tech program this coming june. I'm older now and was wondering if someone can stay in a dialysis tech position and retire or is it usually a stepping stone to Rn, or something else? Thanks.🙂👍
If you can get into a hospital you should be good. I knew a lot of people that would rather stay at tech because the nurse pay was bad and it’s hard to transition into other types of nursing after being a dialysis nurse.
@@codyjwoods thank you.
Hii! Im sorry just now seeing this! Yes you can definitely stay as a Dialysis Tech for as long as you want. But you can also step up if you want to. Normally the company reimburse your tuition if you're going to pursue being an RN or just anything in the medical field as long as the classes you take are relatable to the field. ☺
@@KRIZIAYANEZA Thank you very much. I really appreciate it. 👍🙂

Hello i am a dialysis technician from india
i wish i want to work in abroad can you help me
Did anyone passed the davita patient care tech ? I want to know if it’s easy or hard
Hello!! Its easy if you study hard on it. 👍👍👍 its important to know the theory about it and some patient care. 😊
@@KRIZIAYANEZA hey I have an interview for Davita pct training and I was going to ask do they ask for you to show your high school diploma ? I know they say they want you to have it but do they ask for a copy ? & also after your training do you take the exam before you can start working? Thanks girl ❤️
I watched another girls video and she said something about you have to take your exam within 18 months and I wasn’t sure if that was a separate exam for something else or if it was the test you take at the end of your training ? Sorry for the questions I just want to be prepared
@@Abbiedan58 Thats a different test. The 18 months that she's talking about is the state certification. But theres also a test that we take at the end of the training. 😊
@@Abbiedan58 Hi! Yes I think it's one of the requirements. As far as I remember i think when you make your profile they make you upload it. Im not sure if it changed but just prepare it just incase.
I loved your video 😍 you are amazing. Will you please tell us how to get a job of dialysis tech. i am also a student of dialysis tech from India ♥️ lot is love

What Minimum of salary Dylasis technician in your country
How long is the training is it everyday they'll train you in the beginning? You inspire me girl ☺️
The training is about 10 weeks long and it's digitally and hands on 3 times a week. It might be different in other places. And everyone works differently some might caught up faster than others and that's okay. 😊 Thank you!! 💜
@@KRIZIAYANEZA when was the earliest time you had a train or are they always like 8am -12pm .. idk if that makes sense
@@barbiesps My next video will explain a little bit more about working in dialysis. But part of it is you have to wake up early. Most of the clinics will require you to be there at 5am. Make sure to check out the next video!👍
