Thank you for the video Utopia! A great step by step for new technicians! One question though. How do you know which end of the dialyzer is the bottom end?
Hi MrGilder103 Typically the bottom end is the one at the "bottom" when you can read the dialyzer. Meaning the letters are not upside down. In the past, we used longer lines, blood lines that is. With longer lines we were able to flip the filter during the priming process to help remove air. (Theory: Air moves up). Now days, lines are shorter (less blood outside the body/less blood loss), therefore when we connect these lines to the filter it's impossible to flip it. Many companies just decide to place the filter with letters upside down from the start. Technically, it really doesn't matter because the important thing is that blood flows in one direction and dialysate in the opposite direction. Hope this helps!
